WEST F - Patrick Kane, Chicago F - Jonathan Toews, Chicago F - Ryan Getzlaf, Anaheim D - Brian Campbell, Chicago D - Scott Niedermayer, Anaheim G - Jean-Sebastien Giguere, Anaheim
EAST F - Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh F - Evgeni Malkin, Pittsburgh F - Alexei Kovalev, Montreal D - Andrei Markov, Montreal D - Mike Komisarek, Montreal G - Carey Price, Montreal
The fans should totally not be allowed to vote for these. Only four teams represented among twelve starters? C'mon.

Re: NHL 2008-2009 Season
lol
If Yi gets in over Garnett in the NBA this year, which would be the best thing... ever, hopefully that'll bring a collective end to all-star game fan voting
F - Dustin Brown, Los Angeles F - Pavel Datsyuk, Detroit F - Shane Doan, Phoenix F - Milan Hejduk, Colorado F - Jarome Iginla, Calgary F - Mike Modano, Dallas F - Rick Nash, Columbus F - Joe Thornton, San Jose F - Keith Tkachuk, St. Louis D - Dan Boyle, San Jose D - Nicklas Lidstrom, Detroit D - Sheldon Souray, Edmonton D - Shea Weber, Nashville G - Niklas Backstrom, Minnesota G - Roberto Luongo, Vancouver
They're obviously hampered by both the fans choosing the starting lineups and wanting every team represented, which is why they picked Luongo, who probably won't even play, over someone like Steve Mason, who probably deserves a spot.

Re: NHL 2008-2009 Season
Here are the Eastern Conference reserves.
F Ilya Kovalchuk, Thrashers C Marc Savard, Bruins F Thomas Vanek, Sabres C Eric Staal, Hurricanes F Zach Parise, Devils F Dany Heatley, Senators F Jeff Carter, Flyers C Vincent Lecavalier, Lightning F Alex Ovechkin, Capitals D Zdeno Chara, Bruins D Jay Bouwmeester, Panthers D Mark Streit, Islanders D Thomas Kaberle, Maple Leafs G Tim Thomas, Bruins G Henrik Lundqvist, Rangers
So apparently the NHL is stealing the NBA's idea and doing a Rookies vs. Sophomores game, instead of just another West vs. East one. The rosters:
ROOKIES F - Patrik Berglund, St. Louis F - Mikkel Boedker, Phoenix F - Michael Frolik, Florida F - James Neal, Dallas F - Steven Stamkos, Tampa Bay F - Kris Versteeg, Chicago F - Blake Wheeler, Boston D - Drew Doughty, Los Angeles D - Luke Schenn, Toronto G - Steve Mason, Columbus
SOPHOMORES F - Nicklas Backstrom, Washingon F - Andrew Cogliano, Edmonton F - Brandon Dubinsky, NY Rangers F - Bryan Little, Atlanta F - Milan Lucic, Boston F - Mason Raymond, Vancouver F - Devin Setoguchi, San Jose D - Kris Letang, Pittsburgh D - Marc Staal, NY Rangers G - Erik Ersberg, Los Angeles
I haven't even heard of a couple of the rookies...

Re: NHL 2008-2009 Season
That's not the full team is it? They need more defencemen
The Edmonton Oilers traded goaltender Mathieu Garon to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday for goaltender Dany Sabourin, centre Ryan Stone, and a fourth-round pick in 2011.
Garon was originally signed by the Oilers prior to the 2007-08 season. In 15 games this year, he went 6-8-0 with a 3.17 GAA and a save percentage of .895.
Sabourin has similar statistics this season in Pittsburgh. He played 18 games and had a record of 6-8-2, with a 2.85 GAA and a save percentage of .898.
"Addressing our goaltending situation was a high priority for us and moving forward, we believe we've accomplished that as well as acquiring some valuable assets for our organization," Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini said in a statement to the Canadian Press.
Stone has spent most of the season in the AHL with Scranton Wilkes-Barre. He has zero points in 2 appearances with Pittsburgh.
I'm not sure how this addresses the goaltending situation. They still have 3 goalies, but now they have only one bonafide starter instead of two. And Roloson isn't gonna play forever.
Idiotic trade.

Well that was pathetic. I guess the Bruins were due for a game like this and a point is better than nothing, but to give up two goals to the Blues in the final two minutes to tie the game and then lose in the shootout is just sad.

Though the Bruins definitely deserved to lose (missing the empty net like that... twice? Who are they, Patrik Stefan?), that Blues tying goal was total bullshit. A definite high stick. Shouldn't have counted.

Went to the game. It was honestly the WORST I have ever seen Detroit play. Not only did they play defensive the entirety of the 1st/3rd period, but they couldn't connect on passes. Kept dumping in the puck and just played with no emotion.
Phoenix was amped up.

Re: NHL 2008-2009 Season
Nice comeback win for the Bruins and a nice way to end the first half. They needed the win following the Blues game and they really need this break. They're banged up to say the least with half of their front line out, and Sturm and Ferrence gone for the rest of the year.
I know the pundits won't like it, but the game has never been about intensity and defence and playing a technically sound game. It's about showcasing the sport and its stars. And what better way to do that than having the best scorer in the world beating the best goalie in the world in a shootout?
Plus, it was a genuinely exciting game. It's amazing that a game that means nothing could become so intense near the end. Once the players realized that they were playing for their pride, they really started trying, and the overtime was thrilling because of it. And they weren't afraid to try stuff that they otherwise wouldn't. It made the whole thing a real treat to watch.
Best all-star game in years (since the one in San Jose where Owen Nolan picked his shot).
