Yes but according to everything I've read its violent content was significantly reduced for the re-rating.

Well, if it was made nearly similar to the book, it'd be rated NC-30.

No, actually it'd be banned from all countries in the world.

I heard Patrick puts cheese on a girls vagina and makes a rat eat it? Is that true? Doesn't he also stab a kid at the zoo?

Hehe, yes, but that's a very tame description.

I bought the book too! Now I can't wait to read it... is it good, funny, boring, etc? What would you give it out of 10.

For the book itself 8.5 or 9, for the writing style a plain 10.

It made me feel sick inside after 300 pages, so I had to put it away for a while.

It made you feel sick? Good, because now I know it's gorey =D. Movies/books are boring when there isn't enough violence!

I completely missed the point of the story when I first saw it ( though I was really tired, didnt see the whole thing, and never read the book until now ) It was a social satire, a study on materialism, nihilsism, and apathy in 1980's New York City. His murders and violence were the only marks of individualism he was able to affect in an indifferent universe. The book is a contemporary classic, a few of my friends have studied Ellis in their major, I'm hoping to get a class on his work before I graduate.

Grade - B+

He's just trying to get Patrick Bateman's attitude while reading the book, makes the reading that much more enjoyable

A/A-

I saw it a couple weeks ago, thought I'd critique it now. Really awesome movie. Bale as Bateman is an amazing job. I might read the book soon

Saw it again and I go up with my grade to 9/10.
The more times you see it the better it becomes.

Having watched The Rules of Attraction a long time ago and loving it, I got this since it's from the same writer. I didn't expect anything like this. While it didn't meet my expectations in terms of subject matter, I have to say it was a great film. Christian Bale gives a very convincing performance as Bateman. However, I found the ending to be a bit sub-par, but it wasn't a really big problem. A/A-

The "murder and execution" line is one of my favorites ever, and I really enjoyed the satire of people comparing business cards and such. The sense of vanity.

Yeah, that was one of the best scenes, I felt, it really drove home the context of the film.

Tonight:

AMERICAN PSYCHO - 8/10 (A-)

Loved it. Completely fascinating and compelling. It was a strange blend of dark comedy and horror film, but it ended up working perfectly. I found many parts amusing (the '80s materialism and self-obsession that is on display) but many scenes also disturbed me greatly. Christian Bale was absolutely fantastic in the leading role. He literally became the character and gives one of the best performances I've seen in a while. It was also nice to see Reese Witherspoon here in a small role. I had forgotten that she was in this. Anyways, this made me want to give the semi-sequel The Rules Of Attraction another chance, so I may be renting that again sometime soon.

One of the most disturbingly funny films I've ever seen. The satire is so sharp, so biting, that the violence is both comical and perverse. At once both horrific and terrific. Christian Bale delivers another amazing performance.

I knew what it was going for, and I admired its slick approach, but I didn't think the satire around which the film tried to play its message ever really took off.

Murder and executions.... genius.

It's a witty film, consistently provocative and arousing (in oh so many ways). Bale creates a highly memorable persona and delivers his lines so perfectly... it really is quite amusing at times. It's a very good effort from him and a great film - a notch above most.

- Christian Bale is hot. I totally see the appeal. And the fact that his character knows so much about certain things somehow turns me on.

- The movie itself is very good and witty.

The film's satire is so screamingly obvious that you can tell everyone must have been oh-so-pleased with themselves while making it.

American Psycho stinks.

But it features a scene of Christian Bale showering. Therefore, it is wonderful.

Bale's best performance by a mile. Disturbing but quite entertaining and humorous.

Seen it at a theatre in a special screening again recently. It grew on me even more since my initial viewing back in 2000.

To date, Bale has not been better, not even in The Fighter or The Machinist.

I saw it the day it hit video and despised it. I was a lot younger then though. Watched it a couple years later and thought it was "better" but I still didn't like it. I'll probably give it another watch someday. Might actually get more out of it now.
