Even your inclusion of Overrated Summer Blockbuster B is marked with an asterisk, specifically calling out the fact that it is only worth while for a half an hour. In all honesty, you are accepted based on the quality of your top ten alone. Top five films - fantastic Top five directors - fantastic I won't wast anymore of your time. Welcome!

It came down to this or goddamn Role Models).
Top 5 Directors of All Time 1 Woody Allen 2 Ernst Lubitsch 3 Michael Powell 4 Charles Chaplin 5 Bob Fosse (but he only made five movies, yoshue...thats fucked up)
Five Favorite Films 1 Singin' In The Rain 2 Manhattan 3 Ninotchka 4 Fanny och Alexander 5 The Lady Eve In all honesty Yosh, your top ten isn't very impressive. If I was basing inclusion solely on that, you would probably miss the cut. However, your five directors and movies list easily makes up for your horrifying top ten. In fact, you could have saved yourself a lot of time by simply saying "Michael Powell and Fanny och Alexander." Welcome!

yoshue should be glad that someone as easily wooed as makeshift was reviewing his application, and not my discerning eye, otherwise he might not have made the cut!

be.redy wrote: Current Top 10 of 2008 (it has been a pretty shitty and mostly dissapointing year - I haven't given a full 10/10 -> A to any movie yet): 01. Wall-E 02. The Dark Knight 03. Quantum of Solace 04. Wanted 05. Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull 06. Tropic Thunder 07. In Bruges 08. Nije kraj 09. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian 10. Iron Man
Top 5 Directors (in alphabetical order): Buñuel, Luis Burton, Tim Hitchcock, Alfred Lang, Fritz Wilder, Billy
Top 5 movies (the first one is always in the mix, others are changeable depending on various reasons): 01. Sunset Blvd. (the rest are in alphabetical order) Birds, The Big Fish/Ed Wood (can't decide between the two of these) Donnie Darko Wizard of Oz, The An interesting application indeed. I'll be honest and say I haven't followed your KJ trajectory nearly as closely as some of the other applicants, so this will be a difficult judge for me. Your top ten is weak to the point of embarrassment. I know it's been a rough year for movies, but come on! Things get more interesting (and start to look better) when we get to directors. Buñuel is an inspired pick, and the last three are all excellent choices, but you just had to go and throw Tim Burton in the middle there, didn't you? Your five movies are a definite mixed bag. Sunset Blvd. is a great choice and is certainly deserving, but the fact that you can't decide if Big Fish is better than Ed Wood or not makes me want to jump off a cliff and bring you with me. Donnie Darko was real cool when I was sixteen, and The Birds is great and everything, but certainly not what I would consider Hitch's best work. I'll have to hear from my co-chairman on this one. We'll get back to you.

Indefensible Top Ten, but it's hard to argue with those directors, assuming he's serious.

 Re: The KJ snob/elitist club
be.redy....
Your top ten is pretty lame (In Bruges below Narnia? FOR SHAME), and I lean towards automatically dismissing anyone who has Overrated-Animated-POS-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named at #1 of any year. Your directors, though, are suitably varied, as are your films (The Birds might be my favourite Hitch work). At this point, I'm still undecided.
Though I have noticed your discerning eye in the critics forum from time to time, and this gives me pause. I might even be tempted to lean 'yay' - if only your picks from 08 were better! Alas.
I'll have to get back to you.

2008 as a year is pretty indefensible. Request a 2007 Top 10. And a 500 word defense of the Burton picks.

Oh hell, why not 1. Appaloosa 2. Frozen River 3. The Wrestler 4. The Visitor 5. Mongol 6. In Bruges 7. Slumdog Millionaire 8. Let the Right One In 9. Towelhead 10. The Dark Knight (Yeah, I think it's overrated, but it's not the most bountiful year. And I haven't seen The Curious Case of Benjamin Button yet)
1. Once Upon a Time in the West 2. The Godfather 3. Freaks 4. Days of Heaven 5. L.A. Confidential
1. Sergio Leone 2. Martin Scorcese 3. David Cronenberg 4. Terrence Malick 5. Hayou Miyzaki

 Re: The KJ snob/elitist club
I'm not expecting to be accepted into the group, but I'd much rather list a 2007 list. 2008 has really sucked so far, no reason to even make a top 10 (I didn't when I posted my app).

 Re: The KJ snob/elitist club
Even though I haven't even been responded to yet on joining, my Top 10 for 2007:
1. There Will Be Blood 2. No Country For Old Men 3. The Assassination Of Jesse James 4. Ratatouille 5. Once 6. Zodiac 7. The Diving Bell And The Butterfly 8. Persepolis 9. Four Months, Three Weeks And Two Days 10. Superbad
Am I good?

 Re: The KJ snob/elitist club
almost any year will suck next to 2007, but 2008 has been awesome so far. I've had a positive experience with more than half the films I've seen, and have really liked (or better) something close to one in three.

Price wrote: Top 10 of the Year (haven't seen much in theaters, will watch most of 2008 films at home on DVD, but from what I have seen in theaters, these are the only two so far that deserve to be in a top ten list) 1. The Bank Job 2. The Dark Knight 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.
Top 5 Directors 1. Sergio Leone 2. James Cameron 3. Alfred Hitchcock 4. Akira Kurosawa 5. Dario Argento (during the 70s and the 80s)
Top 5 Films 1. Aliens 2. Once Upon a Time in the West 3. Once Upon a Time in America 4. Forrest Gump 5. The Great Escape
Also, last 5 movies seen:
Nacht fiel ueber Gotenhafen Grizzly Man The Kite Runner 4 Months, 3 Weeks and Two Days Vantage Point While we wait for be.redy, we can move on to Price. Since you are incapable of providing a top ten list from 2008 of any merit, I'm asking for a 2007 top ten list. Your five directors are outstanding (forgiving James Cameron). You are the first person to mention Dario Argento, which is worth an untold amount of points in my book. Your top five films are a bit patchy. Forrest Gump is an abomination, and your inclusion of it gives me great pause. I'm okay with the two Once Upon A Time... films, and The Great Escape is also acceptable. This has been mentioned before, but Aliens is a questionable pick. Not because it isn't pretty damn good, but because it should be nowhere near a top five slot, let alone number one. This is another application I'm up in the air on. Provide a 2007 top ten, and I'd also like to hear from my co-chairman and the rest of the society before moving on.
