Post trix's NHL Power Rankings - Week 27 - End of the season
Because we get one too!

I'll try and keep this updated weekly, either Sunday night or sometime Monday. I'm trying to do this a combination of the past week's record and overall standings, while also factoring in injuries, teams played, etc. It's a lot harder than I thought, but I've hammered out rankings for the first week.

Without further adieu:

01. NY Rangers (4-0-0) - 4 games played, 4 wins. They're firing on all cylinders. Jaromir who?
02. San Jose (3-0-0) - 3 games played, 3 wins. Though two of those were against L.A., so pretty much gimmes. Still, solid all the way through.
03. Vancouver (2-0-0) - Doing a lot better than anyone expected, especially myself. Beating Calgary twice in a row is pretty impressive, especially the way they did it. Hammering them the first time and then coming from behind the second time.
04. New Jersey (2-0-0) - Brodeur is keeping them competitive for now, but how much longer can he keep it up? He's not getting any younger.
05. Phoenix (2-0-0) - Surprisingly great so far. Beat Columbus, which is nothing special, but then outclassed the Ducks tonight. They could be a playoff team a lot sooner than I thought.
06. Montreal (1-0-1) - That shootout loss could've gone either way, and then they absolutely schooled the Leafs in Toronto. Their powerplay is looking strong again.
07. Carolina (2-0-0) - They beat Florida and Tampa. Not exactly hard to do. Still, two wins is two wins.
08. Minnesota (1-0-0) - Hard to tell with only one game played, but a win is a win.
09. Edmonton (1-0-0) - Same as above. Cool jerseys.
10. Buffalo (1-0-0) - Shootout wins are just ties with a bonus point. They're not really earned.
11. Detroit (1-1-0) - Still can't believe they lost to Toronto, and then they only beat Ottawa late. Still, hard to put the champs any lower.
12. Washington (1-1-0) - Alright starting to light it up, scoring four goals in both of their games. Now only if they can play some defence.
13. Ottawa (1-1-1) - Not doing as well as last year, but we all saw how they stumbled down the stretch. Clearly stumbling out of the gate is a lot better.
14. Boston (1-1-0) - Beat Colorado in the final minute, and then lost to Minnesota. Still, having Bergeron back is a big boost.
15. Toronto (1-1-0) - No. I'm not putting them any higher. Sure they beat Detroit, but then they got totally destroyed on Saturday night. I'm still not convinced they'll be any better than last place.
16. Atlanta (1-0-1) - Lost to a crappy team, beat a good one. Kind of a running theme throughout this week's rankings.
17. Nashville (1-1-0) - Same as above, though their loss wasn't in overtime.
18. Columbus (1-1-0) - And again, though their win was in overtime, and I'm not convinced that Dallas is a good team and Phoenix is a crappy one.
19. Florida (1-1-0) - Lost to a meh team, beat a crappy one. This middle section of the rankings is pretty boring.
20. NY Islanders (1-1-0) - They beat St. Louis. Way to go.
21. St. Louis (1-1-0) - Hey, they're not that bad! Are they...?
22. Pittsburgh (1-1-1) - Should be higher, if not for the devastating injuries on defence to start the season. And they just haven't looked that good.
23. Philadelphia (0-1-0) - Only one game, and they lost, but to the Rangers. Still, a loss is a loss.
24. Chicago (0-2-0) - Supposedly the team to watch this year, but they haven't shown it so far. Although, they did have to play in New York and in Washington to start the season.
25. Los Angeles (0-2-0) - Losing to San Jose twice is nothing to sneeze at. Right?
26. Tampa Bay (0-1-1) - I expect this team will be pretty terrible this year. Again.
27. Colorado (0-2-0) - Lost twice in the final minutes. Sucks, but those are the breaks.
28. Dallas (0-1-1) - Lost to Columbus and then Nashville. Ouch.
29. Calgary (0-1-1) - Oh look, all my villains are grouped at the bottom here. How nice.
30. Anaheim (0-2-0) - I really, really hope they suck this year. Really.

Post Re: trix's NHL Power Rankings - Week 2
Week 2

Note: not counting tonight's games.

Biggest riser: St. Louis
Biggest dropper: Vancouver

01. Montreal Canadiens (4-0-1)
(up 5) - Three straight wins, all pretty convincing (even the shootout one). Injuries might catch up to them, but for now, they're the talk of the league.
02. Edmonton Oilers (4-0-0)
(up 7) - Still undefeated, and though all the wins were by one goal, they were still all deserved. They're playing really exciting hockey now. Let's hope it doesn't come back to bite them on the ass.
03. Buffalo Sabres (4-0-1)
(up 7) - Probably the most surprising team so far this season. I don't know how Ruff does it, but he's doing it again.
04. Minnesota Wild (4-0-0)
(up 4) - Also undefeated, but all they've had to do is go through the Southeast Division. Play some real teams.
05. San Jose Sharks (5-1-0)
(down 3) - That blowout against Anaheim was a real blemish, but other than that, they've been playing good hockey. Surprisingly without the help of Joe Thornton
06. New York Rangers (6-1-1)
(down 5) - A couple of losses to blemish their record, but they're still among tops in the league. Who the fuck is Aaron Varos?
07. St. Louis Blues (4-1-0)
(up 14) - The biggest riser of the week, I guess they're not that bad. Keith Tkachuk seems to have found the fountain of youth.
08. Detroit Red Wings (3-1-1)
(up 3) - They're not totally dominating yet, but give it time. I expect they will be near the tops any day now.
09. New Jersey Devils (4-1-0)
(down 5) - Still staying in it, but they've got to start sucking one of these days. Right???
10. Washington Capitals (3-1-1)
(up 2) - Ovechkin hasn't really started going, but Semin is picking up the slack. So far ahead of the other teams in their division it's not even funny
11. Pittsburgh Penguins (3-2-1)
(up 11) - Crosby and Malkin were superb Saturday night against Toronto. Now if only they can get some wingers to play with.
12. Boston Bruins (2-1-1)
(up 2) - Still can't seem to shake their Montreal curse, but they're doing better. Beating Ottawa was a big confidence boost.
13. Los Angeles Kings (2-2-0)
(up 12) - I'm as surprised as anyone. But they beat Anaheim convincingly and then took out Carolina. Not the greatest of teams, but a win is a win.
14. Colorado Avalanche (2-3-0)
(up 13) - Learning how to finish games, finally. Now if only they had some goaltending.
15. Ottawa Senators (2-2-1)
(down 2) - They've played, like, not at all since getting back from Europe. They're probably pretty rusty by now.
16. Nashville Predators (3-3-0)
(down 1) - Don't know what to say. I hope they move to Hamilton.
17. Columbus Blue Jackets (2-3-0)
(down 1) - Some day, this team will make the playoffs. Not this year, though.
18. Florida Panthers (2-2-0)
(up 1) - Ugh. I hate expansion teams.
19. Atlanta Thrashers (2-2-1)
(down 3) - See above.
20. Carolina Hurricanes (3-2-0)
(down 13) - And again.
21. New York Islanders (2-3-0)
(down 1) - Not as terrible as expected, but still not that good.
22. Chicago Blackhawks (2-2-2)
(up 2) - Easily the most disappointing team so far this season. Hopefully, with the coaching change, they'll get things going.
23. Vancouver Canucks (3-3-0)
(down 20) - The biggest dropper of the week, they really shit the bed after a strong start. I expect they will hang around here the rest of the season.
24. Phoenix Coyotes (2-3-0)
(down 19) - Just like that, three straight losses. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted, Gretz.
25. Dallas Stars (1-3-1)
(up 3) - Apart from the Fabian Brunnstrom show, they haven't done a lot to set themselves apart. As expected. I hate the Stars.
26. Toronto Maple Leafs (1-2-2)
(down 11) - I expect that 15th place last week is the highest they'll be all season.
27. Calgary Flames (1-3-1)
(up 2) - Finally got a win, but then lost to us twice in a row. That was sweet.
28. Anaheim Ducks (1-5-0)
(up 2) - Wow, they're really bringing the suck so far this season. The only reason they rose is because they did get one win, something not to be said for the two below.
29. Tampa Bay Lightning (0-2-3)
(down 3) - The Mullet still has yet to get a win. All is right in the world.
30. Philadelphia Flyers (0-3-2)
(down 7) - Ok, maybe these guys are the biggest disappointments so far. But they've just had bad luck so far. Still, they occupy the basement this week.

Montreal is definitely tops at this point. I'd put San Jose, NY Rangers, NJ, Detroit after them.

Post Re: trix's NHL Power Rankings - Week 3
No games Sunday, so figured I'd do this tonight.

Week 3

Biggest riser: Calgary
Biggest dropper: Edmonton

01. Buffalo Sabres (6-0-2)
(up 2) - Vanek is a one man wrecking crew, and they still haven't lost in regulation. Though all three of their games this week went to extra time. They just can't seem to get it done in sixty minutes. Still, they're the best of the lot.
02. New York Rangers (8-2-1)
(up 4) - They've played two more games than anyone else in the league, including the other teams who went to Europe with them. That, more than anything, is why they're leading the league in points.
03. Detroit Red Wings (6-1-1)
(up 5) - Starting to pick things up. Zetterberg is healthy, Datsyuk is lighting it up, and Hossa is starting to catch fire. In a couple weeks they'll start distancing themselves from the pack.
04. Minnesota Wild (5-0-1)
(no change) - Also haven't lost in regulation (and hadn't lost at all until tonight), but the only real team they've played is the Sabres. PLAY SOMEBODY.
05. San Jose Sharks (7-2-0)
(no change) - Still playing great; they're the very definition of a regular season team, though. We'll see what happens once the postseason comes.
06. Montreal Canadiens (5-1-1)
(down 5) - Only two games this week, but were convincingly beat by Anaheim in their first regulation loss of the season. Though that's more due to Price unfortunately getting the flu and having to sit out.
07. Pittsburgh Penguins (5-2-2)
(up 4) - Starting to pick things up, and Malkin and Crosby continually light it up. Once they get their D back they'll be nigh unstoppable.
08. Colorado Avalanche (5-3-0)
(up 6) - Five wins in a row after losing the first three. Yeah, I think they're on a roll. Stastny is on fire.
09. New Jersey Devils (5-2-1)
(no change) - Sooner or later, Brodeur's age will start catching up to him. Not yet, though. He's got two shutouts already and he'll soon catch Sawchuk for the all-time record, not to mention Roy's wins record.
10. Calgary Flames (4-3-1)
(up 17) - Huge jump, but that's what three wins in a row will get you. Iggy is starting to catch fire, but the real story is Bertuzzi. No lie, the biggest surprise of the season so far.
11. St. Louis Blues (5-3-0)
(down 4) - They have no trouble scoring goals, they just have trouble keeping them out of their own net. Until tonight, anyway, with the rotating gong show in net getting the shutout.
12. Boston Bruins (3-2-3)
(no change) - Having some troubles in the shootout, but they're showing promise. Big win against Atlanta tonight.
13. Chicago Blackhawks (3-2-3)
(up 9) - Losing to Detroit in a shootout is as good as a win. Plus they utterly dismantled us on Wednesday.
14. Carolina Hurricanes (4-3-0)
(up 6) - They're not really doing anything spectacular this season, but they're getting wins. Still, SO BORING.
15. Washington Capitals (4-3-1)
(down 5) - AO really needs to get it going, but at least the other Alexander is leading the league in scoring. Future MVP?
16. Edmonton Oilers (4-3-0)
(down 14) - What a difference a week makes. I guess this is what I get for putting them so high last week. What an awful, awful week they had.
17. Anaheim Ducks (4-5-0)
(up 11) - Ugh. Can't this team just die.
18. Toronto Maple Leafs (3-2-3)
(up 8) - Them too.
19. Dallas Stars (3-4-2)
(up 6) - A real up and down week, one minute they're scoring at will, the next they can't even muster a single one. At least they're more interesting now.
20. Florida Panthers (4-4-0)
(down 2) - I literally know like nothing about this team. They're way, way, way outside of my sphere of influence.
21. Phoenix Coyotes (3-4-0)
(up 3) - They could be a playoff team soon. Maybe even this year. Or maybe not.
22. Vancouver Canucks (4-4-0)
(up 1) - They totally pwned us tonight. Fucking 'Nucks.
23. Nashville Predators (4-4-0)
(down 7) - They beat LA. Way to go.
24. Philadelphia Flyers (2-3-3)
(up 6) - Finally got a win, and then followed it up with... another win. Two over the Devils is pretty impressive.
25. Los Angeles Kings (3-4-0)
(down 12) - And right back down. They're all over the place.
26. Columbus Blue Jackets (3-5-0)
(down 9) - What a boring, boring team this is. Yawn.
27. Atlanta Thrashers (2-4-2)
(down 8) - Speaking of boring.
28. Ottawa Senators (2-5-1)
(down 13) - Wow, they are really bringing the suck so far this season. What the hell is wrong with this team.
29. New York Islanders (2-5-0)
(down 8) - The worst team based off of points, but I still think they're better than...
30. Tampa Bay Lightning (1-3-3)
(down 1) - The Mullet got a win! And then lost. Again.

I would've put Detroit at #1 at this point. 6-1-1 and the knowledge that they're better than everyone else is enough

Post Re: trix's NHL Power Rankings - Week 4
Week 4

Biggest riser: Tampa Bay
Biggest dropper: Colorado

01. San Jose Sharks (10-2-0)
(up 4) - Clearly the best team in the league so far. Just this past week, they beat both finalists from last year, both in regulation. They're scoring at will. I suppose their goaltending could be better, but that's nitpicking.
02. Montreal Canadiens (8-1-1)
(up 4) - A great comeback win against the Islanders to finish off a strong week. Price is still looking a bit shaky, but the offence is scoring enough that it hardly matters. Best in the East.
03. New York Rangers (10-3-1)
(down 1) - Still way ahead of everyone else in games played, but that didn't help them from giving up five goals in five minutes to the Buds on Saturday night. That's just embarrassing.
04. Detroit Red Wings (8-2-2)
(down 1) - Stumbled a bit in California, but regrouped and won tonight in VanCity. They've still got to be the favourites to win it all, though.
05. Minnesota Wild (7-2-1)
(down 1) - Finally got their first regulation losses, because they finally had to play somebody. Quietly, Backstrom is having a great start to the season.
06. Buffalo Sabres (7-2-2)
(down 5) - Losing to Ottawa and Tampa is pretty embarrassing, even if they're still putting up loads of goals. Vanek is simply on fire
07. Calgary Flames (7-4-1)
(up 3) - Had their win streak snapped tonight by the Ducks, but they're still playing well. Kipper seems to have found his game, at last.
08. New Jersey Devils (6-2-2)
(up 1) - They better hope that Marty's injury isn't serious, otherwise they're fucked. As will be my fantasy team.
09. Boston Bruins (6-3-3)
(up 3) - Character win against the Stars, after a strong western Canada road trip. Thomas in particular is lighting it up, with back-to-back 1-0 shutouts.
10. Carolina Hurricanes (6-3-2)
(up 4) - Ugh. Can't this team move back to Hartford?
11. Chicago Blackhawks (5-3-3)
(up 2) - Finally starting to play how everyone thought they would this season. Kane is on fire.
12. Anaheim Ducks (7-5-1)
(up 5) - Fucking Ducks.
13. Nashville Predators (6-4-1)
(up 10) - Fucking Preds.
14. Edmonton Oilers (6-4-1)
(up 2) - A great weekend to save their week, which was looking pretty bad after limp efforts against Boston and Nashville. They've finally found out how to score. Now to re-learn how to kill penalties
15. Pittsburgh Penguins (6-4-2)
(down 8) - They better hope Crosby's injury isn't serious. If he misses time like he did last year they're seriously screwed.
16. Tampa Bay Lightning (4-3-3)
(up 14) - They've won three in a row, against Toronto, Buffalo, and Ottawa. That's pretty impressive. Nice to see Stamkos finally getting some points.
17. Washington Capitals (5-4-1)
(down 2) - Ovechkin being in Russia certainly isn't helping them, but at least Semin is taking his place nicely. Though he does seem to be quite a dick.
18. Toronto Maple Leafs (5-4-3)
(no change) - And they were all ready to make a move up after that impressive win Saturday night. But then they lose today. Too bad.
19. St. Louis Blues (5-5-0)
(down 8) - This is where this team should be, not flirting with the top ten like they were earlier in the season.
20. Vancouver Canucks (6-6-0)
(up 2) - That win against Anaheim was fucking crazy. This team is all over the place.
21. Philadelphia Flyers (4-4-3)
(up 3) - They can score a lot, they just can't keep it out of their own net. Biron's not playing nearly as well as he was last season.
22. Colorado Avalanche (5-6-0)
(down 14) - Just like that, they've lost three in a row. What a streaky team.
23. Phoenix Coyotes (4-5-0)
(down 2) - Ho-hum.
24. Ottawa Senators (4-5-2)
(up 4) - Well they got a couple more wins... but losing to Tampa is not pretty. At all.
25. Columbus Blue Jackets (4-6-1)
(up 1) - Will this team ever be good? Probably not.
26. Dallas Stars (4-6-2)
(down 7) - What a roller coaster team. Turco in particular has really been sucking so far.
27. Florida Panthers (4-6-1)
(down 7) - Three losses, so they drop.
28. Los Angeles Kings (3-6-1)
(down 3) - And the same for them.
29. Atlanta Thrashers (3-7-2)
(down 2) - And them, though they did get a win today.
30. New York Islanders (2-7-1)
(down 1) - Six losses in a row. Ouch.

Well actually Columbus has the two best rookies so far this year, Brassard and Voracek are both putting up like a point a game. Don't be surprised to be saying "fucking Blue Jackets" within a few years, with them, Nash, Leclaire, and some others.

Columbus doesn't bother me as much, at least they're from a northernish city and have a decent fan base. It's the southern U.S. teams with no fan support that Bettman basically forced into moving there that I hate. And the Leafs.

Post Re: trix's NHL Power Rankings - Week 5
Week 5

Biggest riser: Vancouver/Columbus
Biggest dropper: New Jersey/Nashville

01. San Jose Sharks (13-3-0)
(no change) - Still rolling, even though Nabokov has been exceedingly average and Thornton hasn't really taken off yet. They're just getting it done.
02. Detroit Red Wings (9-2-2)
(up 2) - Only played one game this week, and beat the injury-plagued Devils, so they rise more by default. It's hard to bet against the champs.
03. New York Rangers (11-5-1)
(no change) - Two losses and they still stay in the top three, mostly because everyone else had worse weeks. They're still one of the top teams in the league.
04. Montreal Canadiens (8-2-2)
(down 2) - Losing to Columbus and Toronto is not pretty, no matter who you are. When you're the Canadiens, it's even worse.
05. Boston Bruins (8-3-3)
(up 4) - They're really starting to pick things up. Their progress to an elite team has been slow, but I think they're finally here.
06. Minnesota Wild (8-4-1)
(down 1) - Stumbling a bit, and Gaborik has been on the trading block for what seems like forever. But they're still playing well.
07. Pittsburgh Penguins (8-4-2)
(up 8) - Luckily, Crosby is fine, though it was Malkin doing the brunt of the scoring this week.
08. Chicago Blackhawks (7-3-3)
(up 3) - Continuing their torrid pace. The two-goalie system is working quite well for them.
09. Buffalo Sabres (8-3-3)
(down 3) - They seem to be coming down to earth, even if Vanek isn't.
10. Vancouver Canucks (9-6-0)
(up 10) - And just like that, three straight shutouts. If Luongo keeps playing like this, this team could be dangerous.
11. Washington Capitals (7-4-2)
(up 6) - Ovechkin returned, but he still isn't adding much. A little bit of a post-MVP hangover, maybe?
12. Carolina Hurricanes (8-5-2)
(down 2) - Blah.
13. Anaheim Ducks (9-7-1)
(down 1) - Fucking Ducks.
14. Phoenix Coyotes (7-6-0)
(up 9) - Had a great week, beating Calgary and San Jose. Could be a sign of things to come.
15. Columbus Blue Jackets (7-6-2)
(up 10) - And just like that, Mason is ready to be their goalie of the future. Huh.
16. Calgary Flames (8-7-1)
(down 9) - They seem to be a very streaky team this season, and they're on the down now.
17. Edmonton Oilers (7-6-1)
(down 3) - Somehow, Garon has been their worst goalie this season. What the hell are they gonna do?
18. Tampa Bay Lightning (5-4-4)
(down 2) - Not as terrible as I was expecting at the start of the season. Apparently throwing together a bunch of free agents does work.
19. New Jersey Devils (7-5-2)
(down 11) - They're fucked now.
20. Toronto Maple Leafs (6-5-4)
(down 2) - And I was all ready to move them way down before they beat Montreal on Saturday. Shucks.
21. Ottawa Senators (6-6-2)
(up 3) - Well they got a couple more wins... and then lost to Carolina. Two steps forward, one step back.
22. Atlanta Thrashers (6-7-2)
(up 7) - An undeniably solid week, they've now won four in a row. Maybe they're not dead yet.
23. Colorado Avalanche (6-8-0)
(down 1) - Looks like their dynasty is finally over. Finally.
24. Nashville Predators (6-7-1)
(down 11) - Fucking Preds.
25. Los Angeles Kings (5-6-2)
(up 3) - Up and down, up and down, though never out of the bottom ten.
26. Dallas Stars (5-7-2)
(no change) - One win, one loss. Such has been their plight.
27. St. Louis Blues (5-7-1)
(down 8) - And to think, a couple of weeks ago they were doing so well!
28. Philadelphia Flyers (4-6-3)
(down 7) - Seriously, what the hell is wrong with this team? They seemingly have everything going for them, and they still suck. WTF.
29. New York Islanders (4-8-2)
(up 1) - Actually had a couple wins, so they move up.
30. Florida Panthers (5-8-1)
(down 3) - This despite beating Anaheim last night. Oh well.

Post Re: trix's NHL Power Rankings - Week 6
Week 6

Biggest riser: Philadelphia
Biggest dropper: Tampa Bay

01. San Jose Sharks (15-3-1)
(no change) - Nobody's made a move to unseat them, so they remain on top.
02. Detroit Red Wings (11-2-3)
(no change) - If they had had a harder week, maybe they'd be #1, but that thriller of a loss to the Pens was their only challenge.
03. New York Rangers (13-5-2)
(no change) - Still on top in games played, for some reason.
04. Pittsburgh Penguins (11-4-2)
(up 3) - Three straight wins will do that, especially that brilliant, come from behind victory against Detroit.
05. Boston Bruins (10-3-4)
(no change) - They're better than the Habs! Barely, but still.
06. Minnesota Wild (10-4-1)
(no change) - Ugh. I keep waiting for them to start sucking, and they haven't yet. Yet.
07. Montreal Canadiens (10-4-2)
(down 3) - Another off week. That loss to the Bruins had to hurt.
08. Washington Capitals (10-4-3)
(up 3) - Maybe the best offence in the league. Now only if their defence can follow suit.
09. Vancouver Canucks (10-6-1)
(up 1) - Rose basically by default, but they still had a solid week.
10. Buffalo Sabres (9-5-3)
(down 1) - Meh.
11. Anaheim Ducks (10-7-2)
(up 2) - Fucking Ducks. Though at least Burke will be gone soon.
12. Carolina Hurricanes (9-7-2)
(no change) - Blah.
13. Chicago Blackhawks (7-4-5)
(down 5) - Fell back down to earth, but it had to happen some time.
14. Nashville Predators (9-7-1)
(up 10) - Fucking Preds! This team has like no fan support. How do they do it.
15. Calgary Flames (9-8-1)
(up 1) - Well, at least they beat Toronto.
16. Philadelphia Flyers (7-6-4)
(up 12) - Is this team finally ready to play?
17. Phoenix Coyotes (8-8-0)
(down 3) - I probably hate them least out of the teams that don't deserve to be in the league.
18. Columbus Blue Jackets (8-7-3)
(down 3) - Meh.
19. Colorado Avalanche (8-8-0)
(up 4) - ...or maybe not. Though two shootout wins barely counts.
20. New Jersey Devils (8-7-2)
(down 1) - Still fucked.
21. Edmonton Oilers (8-7-2)
(down 4) - I had to drop 'em, though I'm still keeping them ahead of...
22. Toronto Maple Leafs (7-7-4)
(down 2) - Some day, they will start to suck. Count on it.
23. Atlanta Thrashers (7-8-2)
(down 1) - They're not as terrible as I would have thought at the start of the season.
24. Los Angeles Kings (7-8-2)
(up 1) - They did beat Dallas twice in a row, though that's hardly an accomplishment this season.
25. St. Louis Blues (6-8-2)
(up 2) - Ouch for McDonald.
26. Dallas Stars (6-8-3)
(no change) - One win, TWO losses. But they stay the same.
27. New York Islanders (6-9-2)
(up 2) - Nice back-to-back wins against the Sens.
28. Florida Panthers (6-9-1)
(up 2) - They manage to rise out of the basement, only because the two teams below them had awful weeks.
29. Tampa Bay Lightning (5-7-5)
(down 11) - Four straight losses. Bye bye, Mullet!
30. Ottawa Senators (6-9-2)
(down 9) - What a disaster they have become. I expect mass firings any day now.

Post Re: trix's NHL Power Rankings - Week 7
Week 7

Note: before tonight's games.

Biggest riser: New Jersey
Biggest dropper: Buffalo

01. San Jose Sharks (17-3-1)
(no change) - Same as last week. They're simply playing the best hockey right now.
02. Detroit Red Wings (14-2-3)
(no change) - Beating up on us twice is no real challenge, especially since they almost gave the second game away. But they're still the champs.
03. Boston Bruins (14-3-4)
(up 2) - On an unbelievable roll. The only reason they're not at the top is that the two above them keep winning as well.
04. Vancouver Canucks (13-6-2)
(up 5) - This is banking on Luongo's injury not being serious. If he's out for a while, they're as screwed as New Jersey.
05. Pittsburgh Penguins (12-5-3)
(down 1) - Cooling down a bit, or at least Crosby and Malkin are. Which is bad, because they're basically the whole team.
06. New York Rangers (14-7-2)
(down 3) - Barely beating Ottawa, and then losing to them, is not good.
07. Chicago Blackhawks (10-4-5)
(up 6) - And just like that, right back up. Starting to heat up, I expect.
08. Montreal Canadiens (11-5-3)
(down 1) - Got all of the publicity, but couldn't follow that up with a performance. They've got to be glad their fans are stacking the all-star votes, though.
09. Washington Capitals (11-6-3)
(down 1) - Stumbled a bit in California, but they're still the best offense in the league.
10. Minnesota Wild (11-6-1)
(down 4) - Hopefully the start of things to come. God I hate them.
11. New Jersey Devils (11-7-2)
(up 9) - Or are they? Three straight wins begs to differ.
12. Philadelphia Flyers (9-6-4)
(up 4) - This is where they should be. And they'll only rise.
13. Carolina Hurricanes (11-8-2)
(down 1) - Still blah.
14. Anaheim Ducks (11-8-3)
(down 3) - Fucking Ducks.
15. Calgary Flames (11-9-1)
(no change) - Fucking Flames.
16. Columbus Blue Jackets (9-8-3)
(up 2) - Still meh.
17. Nashville Predators (10-8-1)
(down 3) - Still fucking Preds. These are very boring comments. I apologize to the ONE person reading them.
18. Buffalo Sabres (9-8-3)
(down 8) - Still meh. Looks like they will be decidedly mediocre this year.
19. St. Louis Blues (8-8-2)
(up 6) - Not terrible, but not particularly good, either.
20. Los Angeles Kings (8-8-3)
(up 4) - They did beat Dallas twice in a row, though that's hardly an accomplishment this season.
21. Edmonton Oilers (9-9-2)
(no change) - Ugh. And we used to play Detroit so well!
22. Colorado Avalanche (9-10-0)
(down 3) - They just can't seem to beat Calgary.
23. Toronto Maple Leafs (7-8-5)
(down 1) - Yep, they suck. As expected.
24. Phoenix Coyotes (8-9-2)
(down 7) - I probably hate them least out of the teams that don't deserve to be in the league.
25. New York Islanders (8-10-2)
(up 2) - They are starting to not suck so much.
26. Ottawa Senators (7-9-4)
(up 4) - Not so terrible anymore, but still bad.
27. Tampa Bay Lightning (6-8-6)
(up 2) - Guess Melrose was the problem.
28. Atlanta Thrashers (7-10-2)
(down 5) - But now they are as terrible.
28. Florida Panthers (7-11-1)
(down 1) - Maybe the worst team statistically, but I think the next team is worse.
30. Dallas Stars (6-9-4)
(down 4) - Probably the biggest negative surprise of the season. A total disaster.

Post Re: trix's NHL Power Rankings - Week 8
Week 8

Biggest riser: Anaheim/LA
Biggest dropper: Vancouver

01. San Jose Sharks (20-3-1)
(no change) - It's unbelievable how much of a tear they're on. Another undefeated week.
02. Boston Bruins (16-4-4)
(up 1) - Beating the Wings means they get to move above them. How the hell does Boston get all the great sports teams? Seriously.
03. Detroit Red Wings (15-4-4)
(down 1) - Still as great as ever, though I sense the downfall is coming soon. I hope.
04. Pittsburgh Penguins (14-6-3)
(up 1) - And just like that, Crosby and Malkin heat up again. Matching hat tricks will do that.
05. New York Rangers (17-8-2)
(up 1) - For every great game, they get shut out by Florida or something.
06. Minnesota Wild (14-7-1)
(up 4) - Rose basically by default this week, but they're still playing well.
07. Montreal Canadiens (13-6-4)
(up 1) - A bit of a rebound week, even though they lost twice. That come-from-behind victory over the Sabres has got to be a confidence boost.
08. Philadelphia Flyers (11-7-5)
(up 4) - Lost to the Leafs, which is ugly, but they've been scoring at will. Gagne is having a terrific comeback season.
09. Anaheim Ducks (14-8-3)
(up 5) - Fucking Ducks!
10. Washington Capitals (13-8-3)
(down 1) - Just like the Rangers, they'd have a great game, and then get shut out by Columbus.
11. Calgary Flames (14-9-1)
(up 4) - Fucking Flames!
12. Chicago Blackhawks (10-6-6)
(down 5) - And back down again. What a roller coaster this team is.
13. Vancouver Canucks (14-8-2)
(down 9) - Lost twice in a row to the Flames, but more than that, Luongo doesn't seem to be coming back any time soon.
14. New Jersey Devils (12-8-2)
(down 3) - They're basically in the same boat as the Canucks.
15. Los Angeles Kings (10-9-3)
(up 5) - Get beat up by Calgary, coast to a win against the Oil, and then outclass the Hawks. What a up-and-down team.
16. Nashville Predators (11-10-2)
(up 1) - Fucking Preds!
17. Carolina Hurricanes (12-11-2)
(down 4) - Still blah.
18. St. Louis Blues (10-10-2)
(up 1) - Two wins, two losses. That's how it goes.
19. Columbus Blue Jackets (10-10-3)
(down 3) - Still meh.
20. Colorado Avalanche (11-12-0)
(up 2) - Sakic being out indefinitely might hurt them a lot.
21. Buffalo Sabres (11-9-3)
(down 3) - They're in a total downward spiral, despite their up week.
22. Phoenix Coyotes (10-11-2)
(up 2) - What does Gretz have to do to make this team good?
23. Edmonton Oilers (10-11-2)
(down 1) - What a terribly lame week.
24. Toronto Maple Leafs (8-9-6)
(down 1) - It remains to be seen whether Burke can save them. I'm betting not.
25. New York Islanders (10-12-2)
(no change) - They certainly play Ottawa well.
26. Florida Panthers (9-11-3)
(up 2) - A slight up week, capped with that impressive win today.
27. Ottawa Senators (8-10-4)
(down 1) - They just can't seem to beat the Islanders.
28. Atlanta Thrashers (8-12-3)
(no change) - Still pretty bad, despite Kovalchuk's antics.
30. Dallas Stars (8-11-4)
(up 1) - Beating us means they get to move out of the basement. Also because the last team is even worse.
30. Tampa Bay Lightning (6-10-7)
(down 3) - Or maybe not. They just keep getting worse.

Hasn't happened yet.

We were due. The late eighties and all of the nineties were absolutely horrible.

That and the Red Sox, Celtics and now the Bruins have copied the Patriots in terms of how they run their organizations. *Waits for the joke to come*.....

Post Re: trix's NHL Power Rankings - Week 9
Week 9

Biggest riser: Edmonton/Ottawa
Biggest dropper: Columbus/LA

01. San Jose Sharks (22-3-2)
(no change) - The Oil snapped their win streak, but they're still head and shoulders above everyone else in the league.
02. Boston Bruins (18-4-4)
(no change) - Showing no signs of letting up. Could they win the division? I think so.
03. Detroit Red Wings (18-4-4)
(no change) - Another week, another two wins. Ho-hum.
04. Pittsburgh Penguins (15-7-4)
(no change) - Crosby and Malkin are on such a tear right now it's impossible to put them any lower.
05. Montreal Canadiens (15-6-5)
(up 2) - Had a great nostalgia week until getting beat in OT by the Devils. Still, they're on the rebound.
06. New York Rangers (18-10-2)
(down 1) - Well, at least getting shutout by Calgary isn't nearly as embarrassing.
07. Calgary Flames (16-10-1)
(up 4) - Fucking Flames!
08. Philadelphia Flyers (13-7-6)
(no change) - They've had a great turnaround after that ugly start to the season. And if Biron could play better, they'd be even better.
09. Chicago Blackhawks (12-6-7)
(up 3) - A terrific win today to cap the week.
10. New Jersey Devils (14-8-2)
(up 4) - Somehow, they're doing this without Brodeur.
11. Minnesota Wild (15-10-1)
(down 5) - Hopefully they're on their way down now.
12. Anaheim Ducks (15-10-3)
(down 3) - Fucking Ducks!
13. Washington Capitals (15-10-3)
(down 3) - So up and down. They'll win their division basically by default, though.
14. Vancouver Canucks (15-10-3)
(down 1) - They're staying afloat without Luongo and in the midst of a killer road trip. I'd count that as a victory.
15. Nashville Predators (14-10-2)
(up 1) - Fucking Preds!
16. Edmonton Oilers (13-11-2)
(up 7) - A terrific week, though Roloson totally stole that game on Saturday.
17. Carolina Hurricanes (13-12-3)
(no change) - Still blah.
18. Buffalo Sabres (12-11-3)
(up 3) - Still up and down, but the teams around them are doing worse.
19. Colorado Avalanche (13-13-1)
(up 1) - Don't seem to be affected by the loss of their captain yet.
20. Ottawa Senators (10-10-4)
(up 7) - Seem to be on the rebound now, though I may have just jinxed it.
21. Los Angeles Kings (11-11-4)
(down 6) - All over the place.
22. St. Louis Blues (11-11-3)
(down 4) - Just not very good.
23. Florida Panthers (11-12-3)
(up 3) - On the up a bit.
24. Phoenix Coyotes (12-13-2)
(down 2) - Bryzgalov has been absolutely terrible for them this year.
25. Columbus Blue Jackets (11-13-3)
(down 6) - Still meh. I thought Mason would save them, but I guess not.
26. Toronto Maple Leafs (9-12-6)
(down 2) - Yeah, Burke better start working his magic soon.
27. Dallas Stars (10-12-4)
(up 2) - Maybe with the Avery antics behind them they can start rebounding.
28. New York Islanders (10-14-2)
(down 3) - Blah.
29. Atlanta Thrashers (9-14-3)
(down 1) - Finally won one, convincingly.
30. Tampa Bay Lightning (6-12-8)
(no change) - And a few more losses to add to their woes.

Post Re: trix's NHL Power Rankings - Week 10
Week 10

Biggest riser: Florida
Biggest dropper: Pittsburgh

01. San Jose Sharks (24-3-2)
(no change) - Still rolling. They haven't lost in regulation at home. And it's December.
02. Boston Bruins (21-5-4)
(no change) - Man, if San Jose wasn't on such a tear right now, they'd be an easy #1 as well.
03. Chicago Blackhawks (15-6-7)
(up 6) - Three more impressive wins vaults them into this spot. They're finally fulfilling all their expectations.
04. Philadelphia Flyers (16-7-6)
(up 4) - They've gone from worst to nearly first in a couple on months. That's impressive.
05. Detroit Red Wings (20-5-4)
(down 2) - Losing to Dallas and then nearly losing to Phoenix is enough to drop them.
06. Washington Capitals (18-10-3)
(up 7) - Now that they've got all their injured players back, there'll be no stopping them.
07. New Jersey Devils (16-9-2)
(up 3) - They've been unbelievable without Brodeur. How, I ask you?
08. New York Rangers (20-11-2)
(down 2) - They're a really good team, but they falter far too much to be any higher.
09. Montreal Canadiens (16-8-5)
(down 4) - And just like that, another off week. Getting beat by Tampa is ugly.
10. Anaheim Ducks (17-11-3)
(up 2) - Fucking Ducks!
11. Vancouver Canucks (17-11-3)
(up 3) - Still playing remarkably well and leading the division. Without Luongo.
12. Florida Panthers (14-13-3)
(up 11) - They've been on a tear lately, without anyone really noticing.
13. Calgary Flames (16-11-3)
(down 6) - Fucking Flames!
14. Buffalo Sabres (15-12-3)
(up 4) - A real roller coaster of a team. I expect they'll be down next week.
15. Pittsburgh Penguins (16-10-4)
(down 11) - The injuries are finally starting to catch up with them.
16. Edmonton Oilers (14-12-2)
(no change) - Getting shutout followed by getting a shutout means they don't go anywhere.
17. Nashville Predators (15-12-3)
(down 2) - Fucking Preds!
18. Colorado Avalanche (14-14-1)
(up 1) - Playing well, but not as good as they should be.
19. Phoenix Coyotes (14-13-3)
(up 5) - And if they had beat Detroit, they'd be even higher.
20. Los Angeles Kings (13-12-4)
(down 1) - Still all over the place.
21. Minnesota Wild (15-13-1)
(down 10) - They've totally self-destructed lately. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.
22. Columbus Blue Jackets (13-14-3)
(up 3) - Still meh.
23. Carolina Hurricanes (13-12-5)
(down 6) - Paul Maurice has done nothing for them.
24. Ottawa Senators (11-12-5)
(down 4) - And just like that, they fall again.
25. Toronto Maple Leafs (11-12-6)
(up 1) - Slowly, they're getting better. Shit.
26. Dallas Stars (11-14-4)
(up 1) - Maybe Avery wasn't the problem?
27. St. Louis Blues (12-14-3)
(down 5) - Still not very good.
28. Atlanta Thrashers (9-16-4)
(up 1) - Another three loss week, yet they rose. Why? Because the two teams below them are even worse.
29. Tampa Bay Lightning (7-15-8)
(up 1) - Finally won one (against Montreal!) which is enough to move them out of the basement.
29. New York Islanders (10-18-2)
(down 2) - Four losses in a week. Impressive. That's why they're last.
