getluv wrote: I disagree with u cotton on gaga. She's very popular in Canada, europe and inoz. And she is really taking off in the states. I know Just Dance was a pretty decent hit in Canada, and some of her other songs have caught on among the dance crowd, but I'm not sure if I see her lasting as a singer. I think it would be really cool if she took the Timbaland route and released a CD like Shock Value, featuring lots collaborations with singers like Britney, PCD, Justin Timberlake, etc.

Poker Face is really taking off for GaGa in places where it has been released. so its 2 in a row. i agree its still too early, but at this stage its too premature to call her singing career over.

I love how clear you can hear GaGa in Quicksand. their voices blend well together.

I love Amnesia, Circus, Kill the Lights, Womanizer, Unusual You,
actually i love most of the songs ive heard. She's at least being unusual and daring. It has elements of Blackout but i think its an evolution in the right direction - Blackouts biggest failing is it was perhaps too much of a dance record, there wasn't enough varation between songs, Circus has clearly defined differences in production and style of each track.

Yeah.
And I think critics have mainly targeted her for being a non-entity on her own CDs. Being overshadowed by all the productions and not really "connecting" with the listener.
She seems more in control on this album. Especially with songs like Amy, where it's clear that she's trying to engage the listener with the lyrics. Her vocals are more confident, as well.

Re: Britney Spears - #1 Billboard 100, second time in her career
Well i think her raspy, croaky vocals are distinctive in their own right. But in Blackout they were overproduced out. This cd certainly has a lot of heavy production, but Spear's vocal style at least makes its comeback a bit, especially in the stripped down ballads.

I've listened to every song a few times now.
"Womanizer" is already a hit, I think "Circus," "Out From Under" and "If U Seek Amy" all definitely have potential. The latter is going to be a smash if it gets released as a single, no question in my mind.

I personally really like "If You Seek Amy". I love the musicality of the "But all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to If You Seek Amy" line - it's catchy. No other songs really stand out for me though.
Peace, Mike

I kind of understand the appeal behind Amy, but I personally don't really like it. I get the feeling that the song had some kind of personal meaning for Britney and that she probably pushed for it to be included on the album. I think it would have ended up on the cutting room floor otherwise.
Just my two cents.

i think Amy was a calculated song for the album, and i do think with the "If" is bleeped out it will most likely be a single. also its a Max Martin song.

They don't need to censor anything. That's actually kind of a point. Besides that "If" is the biggest difference because you wouldn't pronounce plain F like if, rather ef. That's enough of a censorship. Not that it needs any. There's nothing wrong with seeking a girl named Amy.

Re: Britney Spears - #1 Billboard 100, second time in her career
Of the 18 tracks I have in my Circus playlist (not counting Radar), there's only two songs I dislike. Mmm Papi (though it's grown on me and I'd give it like a 6.5/10 now) and My Baby. That is tremendous. My standouts are Circus, Out From Under (my favorite BritBrit ballad ever, fuck ya'll haters), If U Seek Amy, Shattered Glass, Blur, Amnesia, Trouble and Quicksand. Amnesia should've been on the album. It is entirely single-worthy. It really should've been on the album over fucking Mmm Papi. But I'd say my favorite on the entire album is surprisingly Shattered Glass. I really just love it completely.
It's not a better album than Blackout, no. But it's still fantastic, I think. It's the second best BritBrit album easily. I'd rank them.. Blackout > Circus > In the Zone > Britney > ...Baby One More Time > Oops!.. I Did It Again.

Re: Britney Spears - #1 Billboard 100, second time in her career
i think its actually a lot different than blackout and i appreciate shes tried to bring new flavours to a dish that might have become a bit dull if she'd made a full all out blackout 2.0
I personally think its better than blackout because it has variety. Yes blackout did dance pop very very well, and it has tracks which stand as some of the best of her career, but even the "filler" material on circus outstrips blackout equivalents.
I think both CDS are equally accomplished, but the star lustre of Britney returning to the stage is what makes Circus altogether more cohesive and compelling.
Blackout was a really raunchy, angry dance record. Clubs alone could enjoy it, and its potential outwith clubs was minimal.
Circus is a more fun but still slightly dark dance pop cd with a broader potential audience. It has variety which is one thing Blackout sorely lacked, and it also isnt quite so reliant on heavily processing britney's voice.
The one thing that annoyed me about blackout was the feeling that Britney wasnt even singing every vocal. You could hear when session singers kicked in due to Britney's penchant for being crazy and not recording on time etc. Circus seems to be a lot more about her voice and character and also has some songs where there is very little vocal production (ballads) which is appreciated and necessary to remind people that Spears does have a modicium of vocal talent, and that the vocoder route shes taken is to largely complement the sound she's trying to create.

Re: Britney Spears - #1 Billboard 100, second time in her career
As much as I love Blackout Michael is right. I'll listen to Circus on my iPod or Shattered Glass then go to Gimme More, and while her voice has never sounded so natural, at least on Circus you can tell Britney is fully in control of her vocals and it isn't as manipulated as it was with Blackout.
Circus is killer. I think it's one of her best songs, top 5 forsure. I can't wait for the video.
