I'm not the one supporting a one party system. You and Groucho seem to only want YOUR party running things. Where is the democracy in that? Different times call for different leadership and different ideals, but you people are too busy putting labels like "liberals" and "conservatives" on people, and standing beside one party, til death do us part.

(a system of social organization in which all economic and social activity is controlled by a totalitarian state dominated by a single and self-perpetuating political party.)

Is that what you really want, because I've never seen you or Mike or any of the staunch supporters of the other side say anything different.

I about choked when I read his hypocritical reply, considering how he's the most stubborn person here when it comes to listening the other side. :funny:

I stand behind one party because I fundamentally agree with almost all of their values and ideals. As is the case with most people who are firm Democrats or firm Republicans. I don't really understand why that's so shocking.

And, no, I would not want a one-party system "ruled" by Democrats. Part of what makes this country great is that we all have different beliefs and opinions, and we have the right to express them like we did in yesterday's vote.

Obviously I'm going to be ecstatic if the Democrats are in power, because then my government is doing things that I believe are correct.

Which does not make me or anyone else (like the 63.7 million people who voted for Obama) communists.

Thank you, God.

Really? (00:35 - 00:45)

That was priceless.
But yeah, Nader's going increasingly batshit on that judgment thing.

A Sully reader notes:

The Democratic presidential nominee has won the popular vote four out of the last five elections.

I never thought of that.

Yep, I made that note after the last election. And in the one we didn't get the most votes, Bush won by the smallest percentage of any sitting President who got re-elected.

??

So you didn't realize that a Democrat won 3 out of the last 5 elections, and that there was that one election where a Democrat won the popular vote, but lost the Electoral College?

But wait, if you go back 3 more elections, then it turns out that it's a 50/50 split! Go back three more, and the Republicans have a 6/5 edge.

This is more fun that baseball stats!

Not in terms of the popular vote favoring the Dems most of the last 16 years. It's easy to lose sight of it when Republicans control both houses and the WH for 6 of those years.

It's just an amusing way to frame it. Not a biggie.

It depends on the issue or the situation. I can't understand the pea brain mindset of people who HAVE to be either liberal or conservative. I don't accept labels on myself. I'm a leader, not a follower. Maybe that's why others REALLY support democrats or republicans 100% with blind faith (regardless of their issues), because they don't know how to do anything but follow behind others. Makes sense.

Depending on how you want to classify Bush I, Obama becomes the first elected President outside the sunbelt since Kennedy.

Even if you supported McCain and disagreed with Obama, would most people say that when they stepped outside their house this morning that they had a smile on their face? I did, even had a small dose of goosebumps.

Mav, you've made no response to my last comment. I'm curious to hear your response in turn, since you said it was "sad" that I follow communist ideals and I defended my position.

Lincoln and Eisenhower would hang their heads low at the state of thier party (GOP) today.

I like IKE! :shades:

I will predict GOP victory by 2020 at the latest with a new young star or a old star like Regan or Eisenhower.
