This is seriously the most depressing thing I've heard in a long long time. If she could have had 35 more hours she could have seen her grandson (and she was of course much more to him) elected president.

It would be ridiculous if anyone were to cast a sympathy vote for Obama because of this. My theory is that for every sympathy vote, there will be another voter who compensates by NOT casting a sympathy vote. (Actually, it would have made more sense for someone to vote for BO to give the old lady one last thrill. Too late now.)

On a personal level, it's sad when anyone close dies, though I'm sure it wasn't a surprise to Obama, since even he was quoted as saying she probably wouldn't survive till election day.
But when the stakes are this high, everything is political, even a grandma's death...
