I work at a university so I am not worried right now, unless state money gets cut. The economy is still a mess.

I live in Southern California, so I'm much more hurt by the housing bubble than it's collapse. But I also work in show business. As Groucho says, we aren't affected in the same way by these things.

And people will always need a lawyer, so I'm not too worried.

It's mostly those who were investors, and homeowners who are being screwed.

So the government just bailed out AIG, which means that the government now owns and runs some of the biggest banking institutions and insurance companies in America.

Who would have thought: Republicanism leads to socialism.

But see, giving $85 billion to a fucking insurance company is fine. Making sure that the poor live above slum levels is not.

Btw, the TOTAL cost of food stamps and welfare for the poor, programs that Republicans adamantly oppose as "hand outs," is roughly $20 billion a year.

The cost of the government welfare bailout of AIG, just ONE of the Republican administration corporate welfare recipients, is $85 billion, or enough to fund TANF and food stamps for about 4 years.

Well, it's not necessarily 85 billion; that's the maximum possible cost. The taxpayers could actually make money on this.

Doesn't make it right, though.

yes Lou Doobs said it best.

Its time the Republican party demand the same level of responsibility and self reliance from Corporations as it demands from poor people and the middle class.

It is true that they could make money. In the 19th Century, the government made a killing off the railroads when the railroads paid back their debts. I think they were 20 year bonds.
