Post The Gibson interview

We've all been there, in school, when we're asked a question we should know but we just don't.

"Johnny, what was the Gettysburg address?"
"The Gettysburg address was an address Lincoln gave at Gettysburg and is important because...uh..."

Woooooow. That was embarrassing. Her gestures/eyes made it clear she was lost.

Peace,

How ... i wouldn't vote in someone for School Elections if they answered questions like this. If she had just said "I don't know", i would have forgiven her. At least she'd come off as smart yet ignorant. Now she sounds ignorant and a dumb fuck. That is clearly one of the funniest interviews ever. Shes so lost, i almost feel like getting up and asking Charlie to stop it.

GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?

PALIN: They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.

That always cracks me up, how she thinks that it gives her special insight.

I can't for the life of me figure out why they're pushing this proximity bullshit.

It's just SOOO stupid.

Well, essentially being neighbors to Russia could give one a heightened sense of the threat Russia could pose toward Alaska and it's pipelines since any radar installations and military bases would be immediate targets due to their close range.

Good answer?

If there was actually a serious threat to Alaska, then yes.

This isn't Risk, though.

I just watched more of the interview.

This whole thing with Sarah Palin from when she was announced as VP until now just continues to be so surreal to me. It is strange that this is actually happening, and that the US could perhaps elect this woman to office as VP, and that she could potentially be leading this country. It's pretty scary.

Furthermore, I really didn't think McCain would have SUCH poor judgement. This interview was pretty darn bad. I didn't sense that Palin was comfortable at any point through the interview.

Peace,
Mike

The worst part of it all is that in every answer I heard (admittedly only a few), she sounds like a bitch. Like, a mean, angry, bitchy bitch. I thought the point of these things was to pick the person you wanted to get drunk with...why would anyone wanna drink with her?

Thing is.. her answers will resonate with the American public. No one knows what the Bush doctrine is; no one knows what NATO is; she is that 50% of America that I don't understand. I am sure the Republicans are totally happy with the interview.

She was very robotic and sounded like she was just making things up as she went along (and yet trying so hard). Like she didn't know how to finish a sentence, and would just insert "and that's the beauty about a democracy" and "we are a free thinking democracy" and random filler like that. She repeated Charlie's name a lot as well, which I felt was awkward. It felt like she was trying to really overstate things that weren't really that smart/insightful.

And the whole "I know about energy" ---> "Thus I have foreign policy/national security experience" connection is just all around strange.

Peace,
Mike

EDIT: I especially love that "Bitchstyle" "In what respect Charlie?" uhhhhhh tough girl tough girl!

I agree with Sam. She's probably exactly what the GOP want (the media is picking on her, you know) and I recall how GW's responses (and encounter with Gibson) in the 2004 debates made absolutely no difference in the election.

lol the response from republicans is overwhelmingly positive and imo her responses would satisfy most right wing leaning Independent.

I thought it was mediocre however she still will keep a massive advantage over Biden and she will.

WHERE IS BIDEN???

The whole point was the to just rev up the supporters, nothing else..

No but white Males are going nuts over here though...

I think Palin is a good choice, in terms of getting McCain elected.

However McCain ruined his image because no one calls McCain dim witted or stupid as everyone calls Bush.
McCain enimies repsect him as a decent man but with a different message and no thinks McCain is stupid and such. However to pick a person who can easily be called such words could be a mistake latter one if he becomes President.

Like we all hate Cheney but we all respect that fact he is a smart man and the Supreme Dark Lord of The Universe.

I didn't watch the whole thing, but from the clip above, it's clear she has no idea what the Bush doctrine is. She's never even heard of it. And Gibson asked it like Steven Colbert asked Westmoreland about the 10 Commandments, like he KNEW she wouldn't know.

The media knows this woman is an empty suit on policy and foreign affairs. She seems well versed in Alaska, which is what the governor should know, but she, like Dubya, simply lacks any curiosity about anything outside of her bubble. That's fine for a hockey mom. That's even tolerable in a governor. But a veep who a heartbeat away from being president?

For many of us, the main problem here is that McCain put politics before country, which he is supposedly against.

McCain is a liar. He has no more honor. He has run a despicable campaign.

yowza!

lol, I just don't understand why more celebrities don't speak out and speak out very loudly on the election. I mean, I'd say at least 75% of the major hollywood royalties are democrat or liberal. What's the worst that could happen? You really think Angelina Jolie and George Clooney will stop getting offers if they campaign for Obama? I just... never understood that.

Anyway... I'm not very fond of Matt Damon outside of his acting (even then, he's not a favorite of mine) but he scored a few points there. You can sense the gravity of the situation in his tone and speech. After watching that, I feel like I'm not worried enough ;)

Hey, maybe the Republicans are thinking "If McCain snuffs, then the Presidency reverts to George Bush"? Seriously, if McCain dies or suffers an incapacitation, a stroke, etc., that prevents him from performance of his duties, the GOP doesn't care if Palin becomes the President.
As long as the usual suspects in the party have control of her.
