Post A Rant
This election is about the ideals these people represent. Republicans distrust government because supposedly they believe in the American spirit. What they fail to understand is that most of them are priviledge assholes that don't understand that there is such a thing as the middle class and worse yet, POOR, people in this country that do NOT have a voice in this country. So we need a fair government to ensure that the freedom and oppoturnity Republicans praise so much reaches EVERYONE.

So of course they are for small government (or so they say). They don't want anyone or anything to interfere with their "perfect" lives. Yet a Republican small government should still be large enough to maintain a large military presence and dictate "values" to the whole nation.

Republicans talk about the elitist left but often fail to realize that the elistist pricks are they themselves. They're the ones that think they know what is right and wrong; they are the ones that think that government should not interfere in people's lives yet are totally ok denying women, gays, poor people, and countless others of basic human rights.

McCain may have been a POW and served this country, but do other veterans realize that he has voted to NOT give them more benefits?

Palin may have a special needs kid now, but do those mothers and families with their own special needs loved ones realize that she wouldn't ensure they have health care for them?

McCain/Palin want to drill offshore, but do those communities where that is possible realize that the destruction of natural surroundings that would occur wouldn't be worth the oil we get?

I could go on. I'm angry that Republicans exists. I have gay friends that are now proudly screaming that they love and support Palin. How could they?!? Do they not realize that if she wins, they become third class citizens?!?!

ugh. how do I tell these people to wake up! or at the very least, let us take the country in a different way; it won't affect them much at all. They will still be rich; they will still have their choices; no one will force them to have an abortion; they can continue being selfish if they so desire. Oy vey.

I take it the non-Republican Republican finally decided to vote for the Republican?

Referring to the first message, it is tragic that Democrats actually follow the traditional Republican values much more than Republicans do.

I mean: If you want smaller government, more personal freedom, less taxes, support for the soldiers, etc, you should vote Obama. Because considering what each party & presidential nominee is doing, and wants to do, the Dems & Obama actually stand more for those things than Rebs & McCain.

The tragedy is, that American people don't seem to know this. When a lot of people state what they believe the policy of each presidential candidate to be, they actually get it vice-versa. So they vote for the nominee who is AGAINST their interests, and refuse to vote for nominee who is trying to do exactly what they want to be done.

It really strange. But I guess it simply means that American politics aren't about issues anymore. They are about superficial impressions, about manipulating the audience, and about lying. And very few people seem to take notice, and when they do, they don't get their voice heard much.

That's the reason why I think McCain has a very good chance of winning. Presidential election has turned into American Idol, and the more stupid it gets and the more it goes away from the actual issues, the more the audience applauds.

As long as you know and are making the distinction between (what I would consider to be) traditionally conservative ideologies and the new platforms of the new Republican party (which I agree completely counteracts the idea of conservativism), then I would probably agree with your rant.

Wow, I guess you did warn us it was a rant.

Few things I found odd in your rant worth mentioning were that the footprint to drill in Alaska is actually very small, and everyone in Alaska tends to support it. Also, Palin vetoed a bill that would have denied gays equal benefits in Alaska, declaring that "signing this bill would be in direct violation of my oath of office" due to a state Supreme Court ruling. She did this even though a referendum passed in April 2007 with 53% of voters supporting a constitutional amendment banning gay rights. Now her public position is that she doesn't want to pass judgment on the personal choices of gays, but believes in the sanctity of marriage. So she seems to have no problem with gay rights, just of the civil union type, which, if I'm not mistaken, is the same position as Obama ...
