McCain campaign manager Rick Davis, "This election is not about issues. This election is about a composite view of what people take away from these candidates.”

In other words, a personality contest. Which is probably about right. After all, when Republicans are the wrong side of just about every issue in America, you HAVE to make it about something else.

I like this quote from Hoffmania.

As usual, [abortion] has suddenly emerged as the #1 issue at the RNC. It'll ring true with the evangelicals tuning in, but this bears repeating:

If Roe v Wade wasn't overturned between 2001 and 2006 under Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft, a Republican senate and a Republican congress, get this through your skull: IT'S NOT GOING ANYWHERE.

You can decry abortion all you want. It's not going away. We're not going to get rid of guns, and you're not going to get rid of abortion. It's a draw that will never ever change no matter how loud we campaign and no matter how much we pander.

Palin has a pastor problem of her own.

http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/t ... h-ter.html

As to what Newt said, the republicans don't get it. It was McCain who made a big deal out of experience, holding him accountable for having a running mate with experience makes logical sense. He looks like a hypocrite picking someone with little experience. It's about being true to what you claim you believe. People aren't stupid, they will notice that even if Obama doesn't point it out.

It's true if you discount 11 years in elected office, including the US Senate and Illinois State Legislature. Palin's been governor for less than 2 years.

Quote:
She's a governor. And so were 16 past presidents, including 4 of the last 5.

Guess how much experience Lincoln had before he became president. Just guess.

Newt's a good attack dog because he has zero integrity or regard for the truth. He can say whatever he wants with so much confidence that gullible idiots will believe him.

I personally was concerned about Obama's lack of experience early this year. I don't think he's totally lacking but I felt like he didn't quite have enough. But he has run what republican Scarborough said the other day was one of the most well run campaigns in decades that has revolutionized politics, and he didn't mean because of race but the good managing of things. Running a campaign of that size is a huge executive job and he has by all accounts done a fantastic job.

When Obama was head of the Harvard Law review, Palin was coasting through state university, dreaming of being an espn anchor. They aren't very similar.

You do realize Obama did next to nothing in the Illinois State Legislature, outside of the very bad habit of voting present instead of for or against a bill.

One of the things he did in Illinois was help expand health care to 150,000 people in the state by sponsoring and getting passed the KidCare program. He also sponsored death penalty reform in Illinois that required video-taping of homicide interrogations, part of a larger bill that eventually passed.

You didn't answer my question though. How much experience did Lincoln have before he was elected president?

Quote:
It would be better if you just said he had no experience

I would if it were true. It's not. But if Obama has no experience, then Palin is a total greenhorn.

Neither has McCain. If that's so important to you, maybe you should support Palin for president.

I totally would support Palin for president. Sadly, that's not a choice.

If I had to vote for any REP, Palin would probably be my top choice right now.

Her right-wing social agenda would do her in for me. She seems like a nice enough person, but opposing sex education while being for Creationism in schools is ass backwards.

Don't you think that's overblown? She's never made those issues a part of her agenda - both came up as part of a debate.

It's like saying that Obama wants to mandate appropriate tire pressure levels.

No, it was on MSNBC

The reporter started by saying Palin had no experience, blah blah blah, the usual rant.

And Newt tore into him, clearly listing her accomplishments in comparison to Obama (a first on-air I think). It ended with Newt saying Obama wrote some books and made some speeches, which while being dismissive, is kinda true.

She was governor of fucking state with polar bears, ice, snow and morons. I've got more experience to be president. Alaska is smaller than most of the major cities in the U.S. Hell Providence, Rhode island is more populace.
