Poor Chris Brown. He's had many singles reach the No.2/No.3 spot, but they just never hit No.1
And great for Taylor Swift as well, I think she is stealing some of Carrie Underwood's thunder. LOL

Re: Music Sales/Chart Thread (Billboard/Hits Daily Double)
Quote: YOUR WEAKEND TOP 10 PREVIEW: The guns of August continue to fire, topped by the Jonas Brothers (Hollywood), who should generate 160-175k in week two, distantly followed by Kid Rock (Atlantic), riding his old-school summertime single toward 100-105k territory. Nothing else appears to have a shot at six figures. Staind (Atlantic) will lead next week’s three Top 10 debuts with an expected 85-90k, good for #3, Ice Cube (Lench Mob/EMI) will be next with 60-65k, which should secure #6, and Shwayze (Suretone/Interscope) is on his way from Malibu to #10 with 45-50k. Yup, it looks like 50k will be all you’ll need to make next week’s Top 10. The rest of the biggest sellers are the new standbys: #4, Mamma Mia (Decca), 85-90k; #5, Miley Cyrus (Hollywood), 70-75k; #7, Sugarland (Mercury Nashville) 55-60k; #8, Lil Wayne (Cash Money/Universal Motown) 55-60k; and #9, Camp Rock (Walt Disney) 50-55k. Once again, Bob Cavallo’s crew will lead the way with three titles, as he enjoys a hot summer indeed. (8/22a)

I wonder if Rihanna could have had a fourth #1 if she had decided to release "Breaking Dishes" I think she could have

It went from being overplayed on pop stations to now being overplayed on rock stations. Hmm...it was never really overplayed on Pop stations...it topped the Hot 100 of suppressed digital sales, not Pop radio play (although the Pop radio play it achieved later on was pretty impressive)

Re: Music Sales/Chart Thread (Billboard/Hits Daily Double)
I Kissed a Girl is without question the song of the summer. Like, it's not even close.
I don't love either btw. I Kissed a Girl is catchy but mildly offensive to both my ears and brain and Viva la Vida, while brilliant in 30 seconds clips (aka in Apple commercial) is just a little bit silly and not nearly as good as it thinks it is.

There's no way even 1/2 as many people know what Viva la Vida is.

Maybe I'm out of touch with younger teens, but I just know that amongst people (not just friends, people in general) around me, Viva La Vida is known by basically everyone and have all heard it multiple times while only like 1/2 people have even heard Kissed A Girl. In the college demograph though, Viva La Vida is clearly the winner. But I guess the younger teens could be a lot different. I still don't think so. I Kissed a Girl is fucking huge...even if college kids are listening to Coldplay/Hack Johnson/Dave Matthews Band/Dane Cook's awful records, Katy Perry's single has been simply unavoidable.

Yeah, I agree with snack.
Viva La Vida might be "known," but it's not like something anyone talks about, especially for the teen crowd (and I'm part of the college crowd and see the same thing occurring). Everyone, whether they hate it or love it, knows I Kissed a Girl and the damn lyrics to it.

Re: Music Sales/Chart Thread (Billboard/Hits Daily Double)
Without a doubt "I Kissed a Girl" was bigger than "Viva La Vida" and this is coming from a guy who's favorite song of the summer was "Viva La Vida" and who despised "I Kissed a Girl".
I mean Katy Perry was #1 in the country for basically the whole summer. For 2 months! Viva La Vida peaked quickly and then fell.
And I hardly ever heard "Viva La Vida" on the radio so when they would play I got really pumped, but "I Kissed a Girl" was one of the more overplayed songs of the summer.

Re: Music Sales/Chart Thread (Billboard/Hits Daily Double)
I Kissed A Girl ruled the summer. Viva La Vida had a few weeks in May but that was it. Mainstream radio always covered I Kissed A Girl more than Viva La Vida.
even in the college demo. More people might favour Coldplay, but even the ones that don't know Coldplay have heard I Kissed A Girl. It's the same thing over here as well.

Yeah, everyone in college has heard of Coldplay. Very few people at my school actually listen to them, but everyone knows who they are (well, maybe not some of the international students or the uber-nerds)

Are we actually discussing VLV being more well known than frickin I Kissed A Girl which has been covered a lot already, has some great remix's, has been on top of the charts for nearly two months and almost everybody knows it.

Excellent for Lady GaGa, Metallica, Katy Perry and P!nk. Here's hoping for a top 10 debut for P!nk.

Re: Music Sales/Chart Thread (Billboard/Hits Daily Double)
This really has nothing to do with T.I. in particular, but I'm getting so sick of the way the charts have been working lately...it's just not even interesting anymore. Same "record breaking" week like every week, meanwhile the music industry is in the worst financial shape it's ever been in.
Mehhh. There's not much Billboard can do about it though.

Wow that really is horrendous for David Archuletta. That is unfortunately very good for Pink. And of course amazing for TI
