Australia's Women 4x200m Freestyle relay team just DESTROYED the world record and took home the gold medal. China got the silver and the US team a disapointing bronze medal.

Yeah it was touch n go really. But.... GOLD FOR AUSTRALIA IN THE 4X200M RELAY Ah the women doing us proud. That was an epic win. Big upset!

That 5.00 difficulty that Horton did on pommel was pretty surprising. That's pretty weak.

Re: Official Summer Olympics 2008 Thread
That's the key as I see it. If you can just get a difficulty in the 6.5 range then you should be able to get by with a 9.25 or greater execution. Yang Wei just did rings with a 7.5 difficulty but still scored very high even with about .9 in deductions. That's money!

Re: Official Summer Olympics 2008 Thread
I guess the momentum kept him from just being able to hang onto the one ring to lessen his fall but it was freaky. I can't believe he's still going to continue. You'd think his shoulder and neck and maybe even his legs are extremely sore.

A great night for China. Gold in men all-around gymnastic, gold in men 3m sync diving, gold in women 200m butterfly.
Medal Count Update:

What do you guys think of Phelps?
I'm not sure if I like him...he's weird during interviews. Anyone think this could be a another Marion Jones situation? I hope not, but you never know...

China 20-7-5 = 32 US 10-8-13 = 31 thats scary. they might win the chart. US has to strike back at the athletics .

Re: Official Summer Olympics 2008 Thread
Definitely a great night. Going 1-2 in swimming is just incredible. Along with 4x100m freestyle relay and men's team gymnastics, these are my top Olympics moment so far. Getting disqualified in that semifinal is a bummer though.
Still don't think China has enough to win the overall medal count, as U.S. should have a big advantage in the second week, but the gold total looks good.
All those falls in gymnastics were pretty scary; and seeing the Japanese players coming back to finish 2nd and 4th is quite inspiring.

Yeah the Aussie men are no competition anymore. Thank God for the women! sullivan looks good. I am hoping bernard does not win 100M freestyle. He does. He's probably Australias best hope for a gold out of the men (outside of the 1500m). BTW, Sullivan is Rice's boyfriend (they recently split but most believe thats a temporary Olympic thing). i can't believe he lost. wat a dipshit. omg so angry. the male swimming suck. though i'm happy for the guy who got silver in the breaststroke.

Yeah the men have been hopeless - bar that guy. He kind of came out of nowhere so that Silver was great.
