Re: Music Sales/Chart Thread (Billboard/Hits Daily Double)
Quote: DOG DAYS AFTERNOON: Not much in the way of new releases this week, with Irv Gotti’s The Inc./Universal Motown R&B artist Lloyd leading the way with 40-50k, which should be good enough for Top 10. Other newcomers include Sony Nashville’s Keith Anderson (35k), Eleven Seven/RED’s Trapt (25-30k), Victory’s Hawthorne Heights (25-30k), Curb’s Heidi Newfield (25-30k) and Saddle Creek’s Conor Oberst (20-30k, though it’s doing brisk business at iTunes, where it’s currently #2). The market was down 6% vs. last week, down 11% vs. same week last year and now down 11% year-to-date. You may now return to programming your BlackBerry. (8/6p)

Re: Music Sales/Chart Thread (Billboard/Hits Daily Double)
HDD Weekend Update: Quote: YOUR MIDSUMMER WEAKEND TOP 10 CHART PREVIEW: We’ve had some atypically big weeks this summer; this will not be one of them. The only album definitely headed for six figures is Decca’s soundtrack to Mamma Mia, which is riding the wave of the movie and should grow to 125-135k. Hollywood’s Miley Cyrus has a shot to hit 100k, while the 2007 album from Atlantic’s Kid Rock continues to rise from the dead on the strength of a grass-roots hit single and will fight it out with Mercury Nashville’s Sugarland as both trend toward 90-95k. Hip-hop phenom Lil' Wayne (Cash Money/Universal Motown) should round out the Top 5 with 70-75k, followed by Coldplay (Capitol) with 60-65k. Next week’s top debut will be Lloyd (The Inc/Universal Motown), who could finish anywhere from #7 to #9, depending on how Rihanna (Def Jam/IDJ) and Camp Rock (Walt Disney) wind up; all three are projecting 40-45k. Another debut, this one from country vet Keith Anderson (SBMG Nashville), should secure the #10 slot with 35-40k. Nipping on the heels of next week's Top 10 are four releases lined up to land in the neighborhood of 30-35k: Now 28 (Capitol), Jonas Brothers (Hollywood) and bows from Heidi Newfield (Curb) and Trapt (Eleven Seven). You may now return to wondering how an album featuring film actors butchering Abba songs (if such a thing is possible) could possibly cartwheel to the top of the charts. (8/8a)

How much has Jordin Sparks CD sold now? I know she started off awful, but after three solid hits, where's she at?

Yeah, I think it went platinum by technicality (like selling 850K) or whatever, but it hasn't actually sold a million yet.

I'm disappointed Freeze won't be the next single from Jordin Sparks.
Permanently Monday isn't as good as Freeze.

Re: Music Sales/Chart Thread (Billboard/Hits Daily Double)
Quote: Hollywood Records Group Challenging for #2 in Overall Sales for Year
August 13, 2008
Call them the boys of summer.
Adding some extra heat to the August dog days. Hollywood’s sizzling Jonas Brothers are poised to top next week’s HITS Album Sales chart, with a total that, as of the moment, looks in the 725k area.
That total would put it well in range of the year’s second-best debut, Capitol’s Coldplay with 721k, though it still trails by quite a bit Lil Wayne’s still-dominant first week tally of a million-plus back in June for his Cash Money/Universal Motown album Tha Carter III.
There are still a number of variables to consider, though. There are a good number of non-traditional retailers involved, which makes the final number difficult to predict. Also, Hollywood did not make the album available on pre-sale at iTunes, releasing four separate tracks over the month, selling 1.3 million single downloads, all of which could be converted into “complete album†sales.
No matter how you slice it, the Jonas Bros’ big week evidences the unmatched power of the Disney multimedia platform. Bob Cavallo’s Disney Music Group has taken full advantage of the parent company’s unique combination of media outlets, including the Disney Channel, Radio Disney and the ABC TV Networks, in launching its string of hits. The synergy between these platforms is responsible in large part for DMG’s healthy current marketshare of nearly 5%.
Other titles which hit the street this week include Interscope’s Daddy Yankee, Bad Boy’s Janelle Monet, Epic’s Yung Berg and MTV’s American Mall soundtrack.
In all, the market was down 3% vs. last week, down 11% vs. same week last year and still down 11% year-to-date. You may now continue blogging to your favorite Chinese gymnast. WHEEEEE!
