Seriously, I understand that marriages can have bad times and there are times when the couple has split -- even temporarily -- and during those times, I can't fault people for having sex with others, obviously.
But you know, if you take a vow and promise to be true and then cheat on someone just because you can't resist temptation, well, that says something about you.
My wife is now physically handicapped in many ways, as some of you know. She takes medication which numbs her nerves so she isn't in constant pain. It also numbs her in other unfortunate ways, too. But despite this, I have never cheated on her, because I took a vow that included a part about "in sickness and in health."
I'm no prude -- it's the fact that you don't live by your promises that bugs me about those who cheat on their spouses. I value honesty above anything else, really. Now, Bradley, I do totally understand where you are coming from here, and I agree that it is certainly possible for some couples to reach the type of decision you are hypothetically alluding too. That said, what kind of person must he be? Honestly, what type of sick bastard needs sex so much that he cheats on his terminally ill wife?
It's not like he fell for this girl, he has already said he never loved her and it was just a sexual relationship. I'm just glad his political career is over because while there are people equally as bad on both sides of the isle, I tend to hope for more character in my politicians.

Re: John Edwards' Love Child I've learned from experience to not jump to conclusions about who is the good guy and bad guy in other people's marriages. Unless someone is being physically abused or other obvious over the top situation, we just don't know what is going on. Who knows if maybe Elizabeth had cheated on him in the past, for example, or what else good or bad happened between them.
I'm not excusing what he did and the lying about it - it's wrong and he's justifiably being verbally scolded for it and it will probably end any national political career. But do I deify his wife? No, I don't know them well enough, probably nobody does but them. He may for example have been of such huge moral support to her during bad times that she's forgiving about this.

But TOUCHE! Didn't McCain cheat on his first wife with his current wife? Bill Clinton obviously cheated. We know Newt Gingrich had his wife sign divorce papers while on her hospital bed recovering from cancer surgery, and he then went on to lead the impeachment against Clinton for diddling around in the Oval Office. Dennis Kucinich probably hasn't cheated because, quite frankly, I don't see how he could do any better than his hottie current wife.
