I'm assuming this latest strategy from the McCain campaign must be secretly genius somehow. Because it can't be nearly as deliberately stupid as it looks.

Dukakis thought his latest strategy was genius as well. We'll have to see what shape the narrative is in by Labor Day.

What happens to this strategy when people are answering yes to McCain's question?

It's actually kind of funny.

It is true that people find Obama's larger then life persona to be a turn off.

I however do not mind elitist, larger then life people becoming our rulers.

Average Joe, Football throwing, beer drinking leaders are overrated.

I cannot believe that is an actual McCain campaign ad. I thought it was a spoof or something until I checked his website.

And it's not JUST that the ad is stupid, but the whole meme that Obama is "arrogant" couldn't be more ridiculously hypocritical.

That's the whole point. The Karl Rove strategy is to use the most ridiculous of all possible attacks and repeating them ad infinitum.

Well, I guess they are trying to show that Obama may be just hope without any real merit. (FYI, I disagree). But yea, the ad isn't the best I have ever seen...although I can see what they are trying to do, which is actually pretty smart on their part.

I one time heard he also uses Dr. Goebbels methods as well.

One of the most well known one is to tell such a fantastic and ridiculous lie that people will think its true.

The point of the ad is to draw attention away from real issues. McCain would lose in a landslide if the debate was on the economy. He has to change the subject to something superficial and try to be outrageous enough to get all the cable news outlets to focus on his ad instead of on substance.

But what amuses me about some of these ads, the ones about Obama being a celebrity, is that calling Obama a celebrity simply makes Obama seem less like a typical politician - so in that way it helps him. The public has elected Reagan, Gov. Arnold, Clint Eastwood and Sonny Bono - being a celebrity isn't a totally bad thing to people.

All Republicans too, btw. The depth of McCain's hypocrisy is absolutely limitless.

well Regan was elected for being charismatic and really played up the whole Liberal conspiracy thing really well.

Old wise looking white guys are popular like Clint Eastwood.

And The Competition for Gov. Arnold is non existent.

Goebbels was very good at what he did, a genius in his field. Anybody that wants to understand civic psychology has to know their Goebbels.
