YOUR WEAKEND TOP 10 CHART PREVIEW: In what started out as a neck-and-neck race, Miley Cyrus has pullED ahead of Sugarland after two days of sales. She gets the edge going into the weekend due to the tv premiere of Best of Both Worlds” this Saturday 3-D glasses are available exclusively at Wal-Mart, which will strengthen her overall first-week number. Mamma Mia exploded over the weekend and shows little sign of slowing down this week. Another strong weekend at the box office and the soundtrack could go ever higher than presently projected. Nas looks like he’ll see the usual two-thirds decay in the second week, while Taylor Swift will slip only a few percentage points, staying put at #9 for the second week. Here’s how things look right now:
1. Miley Cyrus (Hollywood) 360-380k
2. Sugarland (Mercury Nashville) 340-360k
3. Mamma Mia (Decca) 130-140k
4. Kid Rock (Atlantic) 85-90k
5. Coldplay (Capitol) 75-80k
6. Lil Wayne (Cash Money/Universal Motown) 75-80k
7. Nas (Def Jam/Columbia) 60-65k
8. Camp Rock (Walt Disney) 60-65k
9. Taylor Swift, Beautiful Eyes (Big Machine) 40-45k (Wal-Mart exclusive)
10. Now 28 (Capitol) 35-40k

If she stays ahead this weekend, it'd be her 3rd No.1 album in a row for 3 straight years now (I think Britney Spears holds the record with her first 4 albums debuting at No.1 for a female artist), if you include the Hannah Montana albums. Quite impressive since she went up against My Chemical Romance back in 2006 and edged them out, then she edged Kelly Clarkson out last year, and now Sugerland if the numbers hold.

The MAMMA MIA soundtrack has topped the UK chart in terms of sales.
Quote:
"Meanwhile, the album chart was gripped by Abba mania, with the Mamma Mia! film soundtrack topping the compilation album chart.

It was actually the best-selling record of the week - the first time a movie soundtrack has outsold all other albums since Bridget Jones seven years ago. But it is not eligible for the main album chart under official rules."

Sort of insane for Kid Rock. It's amazing how much a shitty single that rips off a great song and remains unavailable for download will do for you.

Sugerland's new album seems a little frontloaded for a country album. It's first day ests were 108K, while Miley's were 110K.

That may be because this week was only the Deluxe edition which is higher priced.

The regular edition went on sale today so it should see a minimal decline or perhaps an increase.

Post Re: Music Sales/Chart Thread (Billboard/Hits Daily Double)
I really, really hate the Jonas Brothers right now. Since they're releasing a single every two weeks and they have far and away the most rabid fans out there right now, the single they just released last night is preventing M.I.A. from going Top 10 on iTune right now damnit!

The downloads for the new Jonas Brothers' song should fall at a record setting rate (their fanbase is so rabid they dry themselves up quickly) just like the last single did...but I don't know how long M.I.A. can hang on to such a high spot (she's currently at #11).

FRUSTRATION!

Yeah digital sales have been quite boring since the Viva La Vida-I Kissed a Girl dominance began.

I am waiting for the next huge song to break out a la 'Beautiful Girls' in the second half of last Summer.

Quote:
MILEY BREAKOUT CONTINUES: Look for Disney teenage sensation Miley Cyrus to get at least one more week at #1 with her Breakout album scoring around 180k in sales. In its second week, Mercury Nashville’s Sugarland appears headed for 140-150k, but don't be surprised if it does even better, considering no one has ever followed a “deluxe fan edition” with the regular version before. Among the new releases, Razor & Tie’s perennial Kidz Bop 14 is headed for a robust 50-60k, while Provident/ Reunion’s Third Day (through SBMG) is in the 30-40k range, though never discount the Christian bookstore factor to drive that number up. Interscope’s Scars on Broadway, the band started by System of a Down’s Daron Malakian, should do 25k, give or take, while New Door/UMe’s Rick Springfield could do as much as 15k, and not all of them named Jessie. The market was up 5% vs. last week, down 2% vs. same week last year and now down 11% year-to-date. Can you say dog days? (7/30p)

And they do mention the deluxe edition of Sugerland, brooklyn.

How many weeks has Perry been at #1? Isn't I Kissed A Girl like the biggest song so far of the year?

Very nice for Rihanna, she should crack the top 3 next week. Shwayze is looking at a rather large debut as well with Corona and Lime. And all I can say for M.I.A. is finally! Paper Planes is sooo old now.

Nope, in the United States "I Kissed a Girl" has been number-one for 6 weeks. In Canada the song has been number-one for 8 weeks.
