Post ALONE IN THE DARK = GIGLI?
After seeing AITD numbers, I bet it'll do the same potential performance as Gigli did. And I'm talking quantity, not quality. If not, here's my prediction:

In the 2nd wknd, AITD's PTA will drop to $300~400, and it'll lose few theatres.
In the 3rd wknd, AITD will lose 1500~2100 TCs

Call me crazy, but it will happen.[/list]

It will drop 75% next weekend, and it will drop all but 100 theaters in weekend 2.

If Elektra lost 1 theater will a better per theater average and opening (though disappointing). This will lose much more than 1 theater in its second weekend since it barely got a $1,000 per theater average. This movie is going to have horrible legs.

I was actually considering going to see this film just to see how bad it was. However, seeing that I plan to see both Million Dollar Baby and Hide and Seek this week I will probably wait for the DVD of Alone in the Dark.

Yeah, most theaters will probably just have it playing at 10:25 or later next weekend.

True. The theaters that still have it will play it at showings from 10:00pm-midnight.

Considering that its female-demographic appeal is 0, it should be down to one or maybe two shows next weekend and then out of theaters within a month.

Well, everyone thought that Elektra would be a film that would be only for teenage males, but turns out Teenage Females 13+ preferred it to any other demographic - and the audience was mostly over 25. So whilst a box office flop [if it had kept its theaters this weekend it would have only dropped around 30%], it still pulled interesting numbers - if not a victim of circumstance.

Alone in the Dark however, is a dumb teenager film through and through - with the worst reviews ive ever seen for a wide movie. And not even dumb teenagers like it. Which says...alot.

I actually based my statement on information I read elsewhere that said females made up relatively none of the audience. But I see what you are saying as well. I think Elektra would have done even worse had it not been that females were attracted to the heroine side of it.

After reading some replies, I realized that it may not do the GIGLI-esque style, but it'll do worse than either FJ2K or MAJOR LEAGUE 3.

By the way, what is with the comparisons to Gigli with every film that bombs?

I thought AITD could drop 81% just like Gigli did and break its TC drop record in the 3rd week. But they had different PTAs, budgets, marketing, etc. I think I went too crazy to compare Gigli with any bombed movie.

FJ2K = FROM JUSTIN TO KELLY

I was just wondering. And honestly, I don't think there will ever be another Gigli. That is in a league of its own.

As it turns out, I was right about AITD's TC. It makes a GIGLI-esque move by neither gaining nor losing theaters. However, GIGLI grossed more than that. Maybe AITD won't drop at least 81%, but its potential PTA will be similar to GIGLI. You know right now if it had 3000+ TCs, it'd lose few theatres.

Gigli is a movie that was marketed and launched as this big budget superstar film with hollywoods two biggest people in it - and its total tanking seemed worse due to the endless media coverage Bennifer got.

Its all about how high profile a film is, and what its genre is that defines how much people dislike it and how hard it bombs.
Chasing Liberty bombed last year, it didnt recieve half the hate that similar sized disasters did - its all subjective so comparing bombs isnt a good idea

Come on now. What is this? Every massive hit performs similar to Titanic, and every massive flop performs similar to Gigli now? They're two completely different movies, with completely different reasons for sucking so much, so comparing them isn't anything special. Now, if Alone in the Dark starred Ben Affleck, then the comparison would be more apt. Instead, it's just two shitty movies with bad second weekends and total grosses that you're comparing. I know that is what you were going for, but I like it better when two movies perform similarly with some connections between the two. That's just me, though, looking for some common links between movies.
