Batman is President Bush. From the Onion? No, the WSJ
I do often wonder what it would be like to live in the total delusional fantasy world that is the mind of the conservative pundit. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1216942 ... mmentariesA cry for help goes out from a city beleaguered by violence and fear: A beam of light flashed into the night sky, the dark symbol of a bat projected onto the surface of the racing clouds . . .
Oh, wait a minute. That's not a bat, actually. In fact, when you trace the outline with your finger, it looks kind of like . . . a "W."
There seems to me no question that the Batman film "The Dark Knight," currently breaking every box office record in history, is at some level a paean of praise to the fortitude and moral courage that has been shown by George W. Bush in this time of terror and war. Like W, Batman is vilified and despised for confronting terrorists in the only terms they understand. Like W, Batman sometimes has to push the boundaries of civil rights to deal with an emergency, certain that he will re-establish those boundaries when the emergency is past.
And like W, Batman understands that there is no moral equivalence between a free society -- in which people sometimes make the wrong choices -- and a criminal sect bent on destruction. The former must be cherished even in its moments of folly; the latter must be hounded to the gates of Hell.
"The Dark Knight," then, is a conservative movie about the war on terror. And like another such film, last year's "300," "The Dark Knight" is making a fortune depicting the values and necessities that the Bush administration cannot seem to articulate for beans.

I've read other's claiming the same. At a certain level it does seem analogous. Batman spies on society without their consent? Check. Batman fights an unpopular war against terrorists? Check. Batman decides to make himself seem a villain for the greater good? Check.
The main thing is this is simply a movie meant for a mass audience. Sure, there are some parallels, but I'm sure Nolan's main focus was on an interesting story, not parallels between Batman and Bush.

i agree with kidrock on this. i do not think he is defending it at all. people will see similarities wherever they seem fit. the real question is ..... are the filmmakers even aware of this and as kidrock is saying .. he doesn't think they even thought about Bush at all while making this film. its the same stupid article i read when X2 came out and people said its about how horrible the bush admin is. yea ... you can find similarities but no .. its not about what you think it is. its pure entertainment. i personally believe that hellboy2 was all about me ... if i did have super powers. i do like cats quite a bit and don't like listening to the government. leads me to believe that torro is somehow watchign me.

It's saying that the movie itself is a deliberate attempt to "praise" the Bush administration and its anti-civil liberty tactics. And it gets even stupider than that. The article goes on to make an even more ridiculous argument by categorizing Batman as a pro-Bush movie and then using it's box office success against the blatantly anti-war films earlier in the year - if you want proof just how much people love Bush, then just look at the success of this movie! C'mon. And btw, the idea that Bush "decided" to make himself seem a villain for the greater good is beyond loony.

This isn't the first to take an entire premise and assume its about one single man in real life.
