And Venus takes the first set, in what has been a very entertaining match.

Re: The Tennis Thread - Wimbledon '08
And Venus is the champion.
I thought Serena was going to steamroll the first set but Venus stayed in it and ended up winning. Serena just seemed to lack the footwork, seemed to lower the power on some of her shots and even make some very poor shot choices in the match as well, and lastly her service games were always getting challenged in the 2nd set.
One of Venus's better speeches I've heard from her. Congratulations!

A reasonably entertaining match from the williams sisters? whatever next! I'm happy Venus won. I'd also like to give Laura Robson a HUGE for winning the girls title as the youngest player in the competition, only 14 (and british!!) could be a name for the future.

You Brits back off Laura, don't ruin her!
All the pressure caused Henman to crack, he was never the same as we was that first year.

His best chance was still the Ivanisevic semi... won the 3rd set in a bagel to go up 2-1, and then Damn you, rain!

Re: The Tennis Thread - Wimbledon '08
That was entertaining, I expect the next set to go to a tiebreak now that Federer seems to have his serve rhythm down.

Roger is pissed! He's whooping up on Raf in the second set. 3-0 so far.

Federer's missed about 3 or 4 easy shots at net. That's not going to get it done against Nadal.

I am just sad, I am going for my 12 mile run, I hope the match is still going on when it get back, it means Federer is still in it.
I can't handle this stress anymore.

The Mag-Pod wrote: AgentX wrote: How many games does Federer take this set? I say 2. I think Roger can take this set actually. Desperation will kick in. Honestly, if you're going to count Federer out, you haven't been watching tennis in the past five years. Yeah, this it the first time he's been down two sets in Wimbeledon since he lost six years ago....but this is the best tennis player of the decade, and possibly of all time. He's not out yet. He's not the best come from behind player though - which is what he'll have to do. He's also not the best big point player when facing Nadal. He really should have broken in the first set, but didn't. He should have won the second set - but didn't. Federer has had many opportunities, but for whatever reason he just can't capitalize. I'd love to be proven wrong and have Federer come back to win the match, but from what I've seen the past two sets I don't think he can do it.

What is that 1/12 on break points now? And it's not like Nadal's blowing 120mph aces by him to save them, a lot are just wasted by horrible errors from Federer.

The Mag-Pod wrote: Arg. Nadal had three break points and fucked up. Yeah, that was surprising considering his play this match. But it's understandable that Nadal would feel a little tight given the situation. Okay, can Federer hold here? Hopefully he can get some first serves in. ETA: Stupid rain.

Players are back. I'm guessing they'll be playing in about 5 minutes.

Fed blew the second set and Nadal blew the third set, still, Nadal should win it.
