I thought his speech was seriously wonderful. While on paper I see how it could be preachy, the emotion behind it, the absolute passion and earnesty he has is what does it for me.
Really remarkable.

 Re: Go Get It Barack!!!
Simply another magnificent speech by Obama. It has grace, vision, energy, and substance, and was never about himself even though it's such a historical night. I felt so wanting to jump up and chant and clap and yell. It's another defining moment. Clinton's self-centered, "please write and tell me to fight on" kind of speech looks pale by comparison. It's sad, because I've always liked her and still do, but the way she ran and how self-conscious she is just lost me.

 Re: Go Get It Barack!!!
Obama is a great orator and a master of rhetoric (Rhetoric is a neutral term, look it up) . He is a dreamer and a populist and sort of reminds me of the old Roman orators. They use the same kind of rhetoric and way of speaking. A dreamy, populist but rather complicated and deep speech. To me it works as they get the masses cheering for joy and they get the people who understand his deeper meanings on side who are mostly moderates and independents.

 Re: Go Get It Barack!!!
I find it to be to dreamy and almost idealistic...
However sure he will not be able to do half the stuff he said, but if he does 5% of what he says, we be better then under 8 years of the Bush administration.
I was a Hilary supporter then I knew she would lose so I looked at McCain. The maverick moderate likable republican has left and will never came back. So I went to Obama, who is good.

 Re: Go Get It Barack!!!
I know it's not something you're supposed to say, but the way he gives his speeches... it sometimes reminds me of Hitler. The similarity is obviously not in what they say - but in the way they both shout their speeches. The end of Barack's speech today is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. There's no need to shout like that.

 Re: Go Get It Barack!!!
Quote: There's no need to shout like that It does not matter if your Hitler or Barrack Obama or Jesus Christ, if you have 20,000 people yelling at you, you have to yell. Obama has the emotional rhetoric that gets people so excited... A perfect literary example of the manner in which Barrack Obama speaks is Mark Anthony's Speech in the Shakespeare play... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friends%2C ... _your_ears Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears: I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him. The evil that men do lives after them (Skip) Come I to speak in Caesar’s funeral. He was my friend, faithful and just to me: But Brutus says he was ambitious; And Brutus is an honorable man. He hath brought many captives home to Rome, Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill: Did this in Caesar seem ambitious? When that the poor had cried, Caesar hath wept. Ambition should be made of sterner stuff: Yet Brutus says he was ambitious; And Brutus is an honorable man. You all did see that on the Lupercal I thrice presented him a kingly crown, Which he did thrice refuse: was this ambition? Yet Brutus says he was ambitious; And, sure, he is an honorable man. -He is not talking about himself so he is humble... -He is praising his enemies and opponents making him seem god like -he is talking about a legendary and popular figure that he indirectly compares him self too...

Obama is one helluva speaker, but he also has the substance to back it up. McCain is going to have his hands full this election.

There's no need to shout like that. Obviously they are substantively different, but I have noticed the similarities as well. That's one reason I don't watch speeches. Obama also does a lot of metered repetition and I'd imagine that he or his handlers have studied Hitler oratorical skills; all smart candidates probably do. No matter who the candidate, I tune out or turn off speeches.

 Re: Go Get It Barack!!!
They study Hitlers way of populist speaking as he use to have these massive arena like rallies however Dr. Goebbels really helped Hitler appeal to the masses of people by tonning his message. He was able to sound simple and not offensive and yet he was able to carry out dark and disturbing and complicated messages as well. NOTE we are strictly comparing their manner of oratory to Obama's. They also look at the Greek, Roman way of rhetoric and a famous master of rhetoric and one of the best orators of all time was Cicero who was around in Julius Caeser time. Julius Caeser was a super combo of being a great orator and being a strong general. The Romans and Greeks were masters of being able to praise their enemies and attack them in the same sentence... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OratorGoebbels was a scary men... Look what he said once Goebbels was a scary men... “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State" pretty much sums up the last 8 years...
