 Re: West Virgina Results
Immigrants in general have tended to break heavily for Clinton. Latinos, Asians, Africans, etc. They tend to have a combination of Democratic policy outlook with conservative temperament.
Anyhow, West Virginia. The state's got a lot of problems, but I'm astonished at some of the crap people are spewing at West Virginians. Much worse than anything around here.

 Re: West Virgina Results
Theyre dumb fuckers in general tho to be fair. I read 72% of whites in west virgina not being college educated, these are the people voting for Hillary. The sad thing really is that these thick people actually believe that Hillary understands whats its like to be poor and/or "working class" but in reality she's ALWAYS been rich and priveliged. These uneducated fools stay losing.

 Re: West Virgina Results
Obama lost every voting group in West Virginia, including college students. But WV is very much a Clinton state, A DEMOCRAT STATE. People here remember the 90's very, very well. And there has been an extreme drop since then just in my town alone. The rubber plant here was shutdown, the sewing plant/company was shutdown, and big auto plant was moved out of state. West Virginia may have the worst economy in the Country, I knew we rank like 48th and 50th on many things. Hillary could beat McCain here with ease in NOV, it wouldn't even look like a swing state by the margin of victory she'd have. Obama, however, cannot win here. He is very much a Gore/Kerry candidate with various differences, but he still fits right in with them in his inability to connect with the white working class voters, and it will show against McCain. I just read an article comparing the % of white support/working class support to what Kerry received in 2004, and Kerry is performing better than Obama. And Obama vs Clinton is going to be very much like Obama vs McCain in the general election. I do believe Clinton is the stronger candidate to run against McCain since she'd be able to carry the Reagan Democrats that the DEM party has forgotten about. That doesn't mean I doubt Obama's chances against McCain overall, although I do very much in Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Flordia. But I'm sure Clinton would be a stronger candidate since she can connect with the white working class voters and maintain the voting groups Gore and Kerry carried.

 Re: West Virgina Results
I agree. Obama's chances in November will depend on how much he can compensate with other demographic groups. He will definitely be at a disadvantage in OH and FL, and will not be viable in any states between Alabama and West Virginia. He's starting to poll well in Pennsylvania though, thankfully.

 Re: West Virgina Results
PA is going to go for Obama, I don't see how he will fair worse than Kerry. And he can compete in Colorado, maybe Georgia, and perhaps a few more western states. So both Clinton and Obama have the states they can win against McCain better than the other, but I REALLY worry about the white working class vote for Obama. Kerry and Gore would have won easily if they could have just carried it a little more.

 Re: West Virgina Results
As far as working-class whites go, Ohio is the big question mark. He'll have to take a few unusual states, like Virginia and North Carolina, if he loses OH and FL.

He'll take PA but lose WV; however, he will also capture Colorado and New Mexico and few others that neither Kerry nor Gore got, and probably even Virginia and North Carolina (which will all offset any loss in Ohio).

Clinton leads Obama in NON-COLLEGE EDUCATED white voters. College educated whites split evenly, and Obama has been increasing those numbers over the primary season. Second, Obama is only 4 points behind Clinton against McCain in non-college educated white voters, and five points AHEAD of her in college educated white voters. Third, Obama is not doing worse than Kerry or Gore. He is ahead of Kerry in working class whites by 5 points and ahead of Gore by 12 points.

He would only need to pick up one additional state over Gore OR Kerry to win. Given the current climate, that doesn't seem too difficult.

 Re: West Virgina Results
It's geographical too, it seems. Oregon polls are putting Obama up to 20 points ahead of Clinton, and the racial composition is similar to West Virginia: lily-white. Oregon has a below-average per capita income. Cultural composition is where the difference lies.

 Re: West Virgina Results
Any Democrat will do better among Latinos than Kerry did in 2004. The question is whether Latinos can be boosted enough to put McCain on the defensive in Texas.

She's up to 65% with 54% of precincts. Can she hit 70?

Cotton wrote: She's up to 65% with 54% of precincts. Can she hit 70? Probably not, given the unreported precincts are generally scattered around the states. Looks like she won't come close to matching our margins in Idaho and Kansas. The result will end up in Nebraska territory. In other news, a Democratic congressman managed to win in one of the most Republican districts in the country. That Mississippi district went 61-39 for Bush, I believe.
