 Obama overtakes Hillary in superdelegates
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar ... takes.htmlSen. Obama, D-Ill., picked up two superdelegates this morning giving him a new metric to tout in addition to his current commanding leads in pledged delegates, popular votes, states won, and money raised.
Rep. Donald Payne, D-N.J., switched his endorsement from Clinton to Obama and Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., endorsed Obama. DeFazio was previously uncommitted.
With these endorsements, Obama has the support of 267 superdelegates and Clinton has 265 superdelegates. An important milestone for Obama. Other news organizations still count him a little behind, but the trend is clear. He is closing the gap and will overtake her decisively very soon.

Meanwhile, in other news, Hillary has a 23-point lead on Obama in the latest West Virginia poll.

Quote: Meanwhile, in other news, Hillary has a 23-point lead on Obama in the latest West Virginia poll. That's gotta be wrong. I'd be surprised if Obama loses West Virginia by less than 40 points. WV is Clinton's best demographic concentrated, boiled, distilled, condensed, poured in a shaker, shaken, and served on the rocks with two red cherries. Since it's also a "small state," Our best state, Idaho, has put down the gauntlet: 80 to 20. Now I want to see if they can match it, just for the fun of it -- not that it matters by this point.

A 23 point victory in WV would give Hillary about 16 delegates to Obama's 12, or a net gain of 4. That's a sliver of sunshine on the dark cloud, but a very, very, very narrow sliver.

If you break it down to counties where Hillary has done really really well -- suprise! It's Appalachia. A line down from central PA through Alabama where the white hillbillies just can't take a black candidate, and have told pollsters exactly that. http://theelectoralmap.com/2008/04/24/p ... n-prowess/

Niggerhatred in the Appalachians? Who knew?
Always the hillbillies that have to throw a monkeywrench in. My county has the highest elevation in the state and was the only one to vote for Dubya last election.
And yeah, seriously, celebrating West Virginia as a victory? A state worth, what, 3 or 4 electoral votes in the presidential election?

I challenge Billary to match Obama's margin in Idaho, our best state (80-17), which they altogether ignored. (we're not ignoring WV -- at least we have offices there, just no campaigning -- she won't kill us by 63 points there)

Are those states filled with "hillbillies"? Why do you feel the need to flex your [perceived] superiority in nearly every post you make? Not really sure what elevation has to do with anything. In my state, in 2004, Pierce County, bordering 14,000+ Mt. Rainer voted for John Kerry.

Superficially I'm probably closer to West Virginia coalminers than a stereotypical CT prep school kid. I've just been in WV many, many times. There is not a more depressing place in the first world.

I agree on the depressing place thing but I also know that coal is key to the economy in WV. That said I love going to Coopers Rock.

The Obama campaign is also running tv ads here.

And yeah, seriously, celebrating West Virginia as a victory? A state worth, what, 3 or 4 electoral votes in the presidential election? It's worth 5, but it can VERY easily become a Democrat state once again. It only recently has voted REP because the Democratic Party has abandoned the working class voters for the most part, Gore and Kerry. Bill Clinton won WV by more than any other state when he ran for President. It's not worth much, but if the Democratic Party would just put a little effort into the state, they can win it in NOV. Registered DEMS GREATLY outnumber registered REPS in the state, yet it's voted REP for nearly a decade now. WV isn't going to vote for Obama, but don't be surprised if McCain doesn't kill him here. McCain isn't liked much either. Just go back to the REP convention or whatever it was here months ago. McCain performed absolutely awful compared to Romney and Huckabee, Huckabee won the state, but only because Romney is also hated. So the very few McCain supporters teamed up with the Huckabee supporters to defeat Romney. So the only candidates WV seemed to like this year was Huckabee and Clinton. Hillary could have won in West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas with ease in NOV, and would have been favored in OH, but oh well.
