Hillary drops out. Obama becomes the nominee. Obama selects Hillary as his VP. Hillary accepts. The dream ticket commences.

I would...flip the hell out if that happened.

she'll have him off'ed at the first opportunity

I wholeheartedly agree. A female VP like McCaskill or Sebelius would be wonderful. Hillary Clinton is a sad cause for women and feminism in general -- she's the worst woman politician around, like a woman version of Al Sharpton.

Seriously. It really makes me sad that some women are all "She'll give hope to my daughters that a woman can be president!" Why can't we wait for a decent human being to do that?

Exactly, I hate the whole vote for her because she is a women argument, yes it would be nice to see a women as President, but because she right for the job not just because she has a vagina.

I want to see a black person as President, that didn't make me support Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson in previous elections.

I agree 100%, and I have made that argument many times on other boards.

I can analyze candidates on my own. If I have two candidates who are equally good in my eyes, I may prefer the woman or the minority (because we need more women and minorities in office) but that is always secondary to other concerns.

I'm kind of surprised how UNinterested I am in Hillary's gender and Obama's race. My support or lack thereof is entirely based on their respective merits, the way they've run their campaigns, et al. The idea of "the first black president" or "the first woman president" is an ancillary benefit.

Someone like Jim Webb?

Obama/Webb would be a pretty killer ticket.

I'm more curious about the Rep veep hunt myself. McCain's VP choice is as critical as VP choices go, given his old age. As long as it's not a creep like Dick Cheney, who for some reason reminds me of comic-book villains.

well watching Dicks health issues you then better also pick a Vice-Vice-President just to get sure if both make not the 4 years

Wouldn't Hillary running as a 3rd put her on the Democratic shitlist? I mean, they couldn't possibly back her in 4 years if they did that and they lost. Judas.

Yeah, 90% of her support would disappear and she would be seen as a potential Ralph Nader, preventing the democrats from winning in a year when they should easily clean up. She'd be hated. She won't do that.

She'd sure leave a mark in history though. Hitler's more famous than Churchill.

Is there any evidence that Clinton has even considered running as a third?

I know she has a reputation of contradicting herself, but wouldn't her justification for running as an independent require her to take back all the things she said about making sure a Dem is elected come November? That would be pretty brutal, even for her standards. :|

She won't. It's not a very credible conspiracy theory since she wouldn't be able to win any states as an independent.

I remember reading something about Michael Bloomberg running as a third party candidate some months ago. Does anyone know if he still plans to do that? I haven't really kept up with all of this.

Clinton Deadline Looms for Recouping $11 Million Personal Loan

May 12 (Bloomberg) -- Hillary Clinton may have a financial incentive to remain in the presidential race for a while. And she has Senator John McCain to thank for it.

Clinton loaned her struggling campaign $11 million in recent months. A little-known provision of a 2002 campaign- finance law cosponsored by McCain prevents candidates who drop out of the race from raising money after the nominating conventions to repay themselves for personal loans.

Should Clinton fail to come up with the funds by the Democratic convention in August, she'll be out the $11 million. If she quits the campaign before then, she may find it hard to get people to keep giving cash just so she can retire her debt.

That may ratchet up pressure on Clinton to cut a deal with rival Barack Obama to help her through his supporters. Obama may oblige since he would love to get her out of the race for the nomination so he could focus on the general election.

``Helping to pay off the debt would certainly be a clear signal of Obama's desire to bring the two candidates together,'' said Anthony Corrado, a professor of government at Colby College in Waterville, Maine.

Obama, 46, is keeping the door open to the possibility of helping pay her debt, which includes more than $10 million in unpaid bills to vendors and consultants -- including strategist Mark Penn, who remains a flash point of criticism for backing a trade deal she opposed.
