The thing is, though, House of the Dead had an okay PTA that weekend. If it had more theaters, it could have done more. I would say around the same PTA for Alone in the Dark, which would give it around $8 million. Does anyone know how much it's production cost was? It may be able to break even if it's a cost lower than $20 million.
Here's House of the Dead's stuff, incase anyone is interested.

I dunno. This movie looks absolutely terrible. The trailer got more laughs than anything else when I saw it in front of Assault On Precinct 13. I can't see it doing more than $6 million this weekend.

By the way, I think it's marketed well. They showed the commercials a million times during the football games today.

Those commercials were terrible though, Zing. Can you honestly see anyone being swayed to see it based off of those TV spots?
Also, HOTD had a fairly good PTA because it had some things going for it that AITD doesn't. It was close to Halloween, and Uwe Boll's name wasn't synonymous with cancerous filmmaking yet.

Honestly, who really knows who Uwe Boll is outside of the internet? Absolutely no one. That will not have any affect on box office.

You say "outside of the internet" like nobody uses the internet. The internet has a huge impact on films, Zing.

Many people in here know that Uwe Boll sucks. However, many teens and young adults don't. There are a lot of TV spots. This movie's trailer and TV spots isn't my cup of tea, but I heard many young people say that they like them. (The poster is very effective to attract teens and young adults, too.) And then, Lions Gate(in 2005) is more powerful than Artisan(in 2003). As I said before, I personally hope "Alone in the Dark" hugely bomb . However, when I do box office prediction, I won't only care about the taste of myself, what I care most is the taste of general public. makeshift_wings wrote: Zingaling wrote: Honestly, who really knows who Uwe Boll is outside of the internet? Not necessary....
White Chicks got very bad internet buzz.....
Team America, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, The Girl Next Door got very good internet buzz.....

I didn't want to say "outside of the forums" because we're not the only forum that knows about Uwe Boll. My point is the general public has no idea about his movies or directing abiliites. It would have no affect.

Anybody who saw HOTD knows about his directing abilities (or lack there of).

Most of the people who saw HOTD don't notice who is director.
Most of the people who saw ALONE IN THE ARK trailer and tv spots don't notice who is director.

How could you possibly know this? I think you're kind of underestimating the "general public".

I disagree, this film is marketed primarily to the demographic which uses the Internet.

Even with better marketing, I don't see this film grossing over $8 million for the weekend, with a 60%+ drop next weekend, it won't gross more then $22 million total.

The trailer is one of the worst ive seen - truly truly awful.
They could have developed it into a RING style horror, but then took a weak lead and put him in a film with weaker SFX.

However, this film isn't marketed primarily to the demographic who always visit movie-fan sites.

As I stated in another thread, the fact that Uwe Boll and the scriptwriter expect me to believe that Tara Reid is a brilliant scientist who battles aliens just sends me into giggles.
For the life of me, I can't figure out why anyone would pay to see this movie, but that's just me.
I think it will bomb anyway. A $5M opening and barely over $12M total.

Eh, I'll probably go sometime next week. I'll be seeing Hide and Seek and The Phantom of the Opera first though.

I gotta admit, I want to see it. I'd really want to if it wasn't directed by Uwe Boll...

Yeah, its near the bottom of my "too-see in theaters" list. Its got: Hide and Seek, The Phantom of the Opera, Alexander, Birth, Closer and Sideways all above it, plus several more I'm sure.
