 Re: Gas Tax Stupidity
Gas prices are a hell of a lot higher in Canada and Europe and there is next to no bickering. Gas is still fucking cheap compared to a lot of things we pay for and people should start to realize that one does not need to own an SUV/hummer to survive. It's common sense.

Let's all take the bus instead!

 Re: Gas Tax Stupidity

I've never seen as much bickering and backstabbing between municipal/provincial/federal officials when it comes to dealing with transit plans. Seems like no one is ever on the same page.

Well some of it makes sense. For example down here there are plenty of rail lines that could be turned into high speed rail from the suburbs to the downtown area. The problem is they are owned by a private corporation which is being difficult in how it would lease them because they still use the lines for freight transit etc. It's all a huge mess but yeah, they need to get on it ASAP.

That's great. Well, the bridge collapse isn't. But the message is.

 Re: Gas Tax Stupidity
The whole idea is dumb just because it's like adding a band aid to a mountain-sized, pus-gushing, gangrene-filled wound. The oil is only going to get more expensive as demand skyrockets worldwide and the supply slowly declines. It's a distraction for votes.

From McCain, it's expected. From Hillary, I still don't know what to think.

Jeff wrote: I just don't get their justification for it...I mean really. It's populist pandering. Any gas tax savings would be offset by an increase in prices due to increased demand. So you're not even likely to see that $30 savings anyway. It's a political stunt, nothing more.
