That Lollipop song is beyond awful. Lil Wayne has no talent whatsoever, the song is just pure remix and digital manipulation of his "voice". And he looks like a rapist. Its embarassing a song about oral sex is #1.

As opposed to a song about suicide (Apologize which was #2 forever), a song about sex (Touch My Body), having sex in public places (Love in This Club), chauvinism (Low), or any other combination of the above??

"Apologize" is about suicide? Hmm, I dunno about that.

Ryan Tedder was quoted as saying it is "about the emotional pain of someone who commits suicide" (originally posted on their Myspace though they have changed that to say it is about multiple relationships).

Even if it isn't "about" suicide, the metaphors contained very clearly point to that:

"I'm holding on your rope,
Got me ten feet off the ground
I'm hearing what you say but I just can't make a sound
You tell me that you need me
Then you go and cut me down, but wait
You tell me that you're sorry
Didn't think I'd turn around, and say...

It's too late to apologize, it's too late
I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late"

That's odd. I wonder why they changed the description to - "explores the personal pain of multiple relationships gone awry and the necessity of moving on." Suicide isn't a very effective means of "moving on" successfully. I can see the suicidal interpretation, but I think the rope symbolizes dependence on someone else in a relationship, not like a literal noose or something.

That's what I read anyway...it could be a rumor.

I think the lyrics work either way.

I was always thought "Apologize" was a very tragic song. There was so much dark emotion in the lyric and its delivery: disappointment, resentment, disillusionment, hurt, co-dependence. It definitely makes sense. Interesting....

Ashlee is over.

As for the question, I think LITCPT2 is counted seperately, or it would be titled LITC Remix

If it was title LITC (remix) though it would go with the original as far as sales go (unless the label promoted it as a separate song). Look at some of the songs that are at #1 for a long period of time towards the end of the run and there is either a B-side added (in the case of physical singles though some have them as digital B-sides as well) or a remix.

It could just be a rumor someone started but it seems to make sense to me. I think it is a great song...

Apologize isn't about suicide, but what about Jiffy said, at least that's how I see it. At least the other songs have a melody, Lollipop has nothing. Its not even music IMO. Just noises.

Am I the only one who notices when iTunes freezes?! Don't tell me there isn't much activity or changes on the chart because that is impossible for all 100 songs to remain in the same places for 4 straight days!

Also, I guess Love in this Club pt. 2 will be counted separately, as the only similar lines repeated are the title of the song. Should be an easy top 10, already exploding at Urban & Rhythmic in its first week.

Awesome for Leona!
And yeah....iTunes being frozen is terribly annoying. They unfroze the albums, but Top 100 songs still appears to be stuck.

Didn't notice the albums snack :mer:

Perhaps the iTunes freeze is from increased user downloading in general... But it is rather odd.

It looks like Leona Lewis will grab #1 from Lil Wayne this week, with what is sure to be 250K+ digital sales.

'4 Minutes' looks unlikely to capture the top spot after all.

'Damaged' may break top 10 this week.

'Take A Bow' should zoom to #1 when it's released digitally, becoming Rihanna's 3rd #1. Its airplay is amazing.

Looking forward to digital sales & hot 100!

there are four new remixez available this week. If downloads increase this week, she has a slight chance on next week's charts. we should know in a day or two if sales of the single pick up or not.

regardless, the single has had a phenomenal sales run and even hot 100 run relatively speaking (to other madonna singles).

Post Re: Music Sales/Chart Thread (Billboard/Hits Daily Double)
I agree it has had a great run regardless, but even if the remixes all chart on the top 100, its airplay is still less than half that of Lil Wayne and Leona Lewis; 'Lollipop' & 'Bleeding Love's digital sales would theoretically be much closer to '4 Minutes' than would '4 Minutes's airplay be to the other 2.

:hahaha: :zonks:

Hard Candy Will Bow on Top, Lyfe Jennings, The Roots, Def Leppard and Portishead Also Debut

April 30, 2008

Madonna will leave Warner Bros., the only label she’s ever known, with a bang.

Her final studio album for the Bunny, Hard Candy, is on track to sell between 275-300k, which will handily end Mariah Carey’s two-week reign with E=MC2, according to one-day sale reports from those retailers still standing around this great country of ours.

The Material Gal has one more album, a greatest hits collection, to go before splitting for a long-term deal with concert promoter Live Nation. The album’s her first since 2005’s Confessions on a Dance Floor, which sold more than 8 million worldwide. In the U.S., it debuted at #1, selling 351k copies in its first week, taking the top spot from Carrie Underwood’s Some Hearts. In its second week, Confessions on a Dance Floor sold 210k copies and slipped to #4 with a 39% sales decrease. To date, the album has sold over 1.7 million copies in the U.S.

Columbia R&B star Lyfe Jennings’ Lyfe Change, his third album, is on track to sell between 75-80k, which should be good for a Top 5 bow, fueled by the single, “Never Never Land.” His last disc, 2006’s The Phoenix, debuted at #2 and went on to sell 450k.

Veteran Def Jam rappers The Roots return with Rising Down, their first since 2006’s Game Theory, with a first-week sales number in the 50-60k range

Hair metal mainstays Def Leppard’s Universal album Songs from the Sparkle Lounge is doing better than expected, thanks to the band’s appearance on last night’s Dancing with the Stars, where they performed their new single, “Nine Lives,” which features Tim McGraw. One-day sales estimates peg their total at 45-50k. The band’s U.S. tour with Styx and REO Speedwagon is already underway.

Island Records trip-hop pioneers Portishead return with their first studio album in a decade, and third overall, the cleverly dubbed Third, on track for an impressive 40-45k in sales after their critically acclaimed performance at Coachella last weekend.

Tom Petty’s Mudcrutch album on Warner Bros. looks set for 25-30k after a string of intimate performances with his one-time Gainesville, FL, bandmates at the Troubadour in L.A., his old stomping grounds.

Epic Records' SoCal atmospheric pop-rockers Augustana’s Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt is on target for 20-25k

The market was down 8% vs last week, down 11% vs same week last year and now down 11% year-to-date…. as Hollywood continues to burn outside HITS’ Sunset and Vine headquarters..

Not many surprises this week. Nice to see Love in this Club Part 2 debut :er:

What has the sudden surge for 'Paper Planes' been due to lately?

Maybe '4 Minutes' has a better shot than I thought to hit #1.......
