You guys should consider yourselves lucky to be in the midst of quite an exciting campaign right now. I certainly am. I've been involved in politics all my adult life, and this is the most exciting race I have followed. And Americans are really tuning in and paying attention for once! (Of course, the writer's strike may have had something to do with that -- the election is kind of like the biggest and most important reality show ever) This is the first presidential election campaign that I've really followed. I was probably old enough in 2004, but didn't care as much, so I didn't bother. This is the first one in which I'm voting as well. I'm worried the whole campaign is going to spoil me for the next few decades until something this exciting comes along again. I really have no frame of reference, just a bunch of news/wiki articles and history texts on how everything has gone down in the past. For me 1992 was the first one i followed closely but it was all based on tv and newspaper reports. That one was huge as Bush Sr went from being the most loved president to one of the least in the span of 1 YEAR!! Bill Clinton had a surge of popularity like Obama is having today and Ross Perot was one of the most visible 3rd party candidates ever. Other than that - the others I remember were all snoozes (1988, 1996, 2004). 2000 was memorable but for all the wrong reasons. One like this one with no standing US Prez or VP running with the potential of history being made (first black or woman Prez) wont come around for a long while.

LOL, that's crazy. I don't agree with him on anywhere near every issue, but I agree with him on a few important ones. The most critical one is Iraq. I completely DISAGREE with him on ethanol. It's an awful alternative fuel source and it's a damn shame that so many politicians are trying to pass it off as a legit one. It's not anywhere near as efficient as gasoline, it's very corrosive in transport so you have to have better tanker trucks (more $$$$), it takes more energy to create it than you get out of it, and at the moment corn is the main source. We cannot afford to screw with our corn supply because then it messes with the entire economy because corn is used to feed livestock and it's used even in stupid shit like sodas and so many other things that we don't think about. You screw with the corn supply, the price goes up, and suddenly you screw over the entire economy.

I think this belongs here... Obama in Senate: Star Power, Minor RoleQuote: Determined to be viewed as substantive, Mr. Obama kept his head down, declining Sunday talk show invitations for his first year, and consulted Senate elders for advice. He was cautious  even on the Iraq war, which he had opposed as a Senate candidate. He voted against the withdrawal of troops and proposed legislation calling for a drawdown only after he was running for president and polls showed voters favoring it.

BUMP this baby up since this thread seems rather accurate in all things considered when it comes to the Rev Wright's comments and Pope Obama being a follower of his Church for what?? 20 Years and him and his wife were married by this guy??? Doesn't look good for The Cult of Obama now does it??
