Re: Music Sales/Chart Thread (Billboard/Hits Daily Double)
One Day Sales for next week: Quote: CHART DISCIPLINE: Look for Michael Jackson’s little sister Janet to enter next week’s chart at #1, with her new IDJ album Discipline headed for 180k in sales, give or take. Universal Motown’s neo-soul stalwart Erykah Badu is a lock for #2 (hey, that rhymes) with between 125-135k. Three-time chart-topper Jack Johnson’s Brushfire/Universal Republic album will fight it out for #3 with 70k alongside Asylum’s Webbie, Canvasback/ Columbia’s resurgent Oscar winner Once and J’s Alicia Keys, with a Target circular slot, all between 60-70k. Rhino’s Juno should see a nice bump from awards activity to 50-55k, while Asylum’s Shawty Lo will see a debut in the area of 30-35k. Overall, the market was down 19% vs last week, down 13% vs same week last year and now down 12% year-to-date. Keep on chooglin’, people. (2/27p)

Re: Music Sales/Chart Thread (Billboard/Hits Daily Double)
Flo Rida is now slowly approaching Soulja Boy's Crank Dat as the most digital sales ever.
'Low' will stay #1 until Mariah Carey releases digitally.
'Love In This Club' is at #9 right now on iTunes and should be #1 by the end of the week at least.
Usher should have another #1 unless 'Touch My Body' beats it.
Looking forward to Hot 100 numbers.

Re: Music Sales/Chart Thread (Billboard/Hits Daily Double)
No Air is moving up fast. It's teen boppy enough that it could get a really high ranking in the end. Most AI winners end up having a huge song at first mostly due to exposure from the show, and then kinda disappearing. Sparks seems like she's more going the way of Clarkson/Underwood in the end I think. Her album was the worst opening for a winner, but she should have a marathon of a run I think if she can put enough big songs out...

Usher has a new album? Looks to be a similar situation that we had in 2005 when it was 50 Cent vs Mariah Carey early on, and they remained on top throughout the year, with Mariah barely selling more albums. And she pulled ahead on the last week of they year I believe. Of course they will come nowhere near their previous album sales success, but they should still do well.

Good to see Leona Lewis appearing on the charts, hopefully she can keep climbing in the coming weeks.

It is still behind on airplay which accounts for a larger percentage of the Hot 100 position.

Usher will surely get to #1....hoping that he peaks early and rises to the top in the next week......that Flo Rida song is shit and shouldn't stay there any longer. It's racked up like 10 weeks at #1 or something. The sooner Usher peaks...the better chance Mimi will have with Touch My Body....though i'm starting to think that both will blow at about the sametime....and Mimi's downloads are normally very weak...so edge to Usher.

Usher did catch up remarkably on Hot 100 Airplay this week. I still think 'Touch My Body' airplay will be locked at #1 & 'Love in this Club' #2 (Similar to No One/Apologize combo.) I think the week 'TMB' is released it will go to #1 at least for that one week (Similar to Stronger the week Graduation came out and interrupted Crank Dat for one week only) But I expect 'TMB' to last longer. These two songs will rule the charts for the next 4 months + , start getting used to them.

Re: Music Sales/Chart Thread (Billboard/Hits Daily Double)
Quote: YOUR WEAKEND TOP 10: Break out the champagneâ€â€there will be two albums in six figures next week. Woo-hoo! Topping the chart will be the debuting Janet Jackson, whose first album for Def Jam/IDJ is moving toward 170-180k. She’ll be followed by Universal Motown left-of-center diva Erykah Badu, who should bow with 125-135k. Jack Johnson (Brushfire/Universal Republic), who spent the last three weeks at #1, will likely fall two places while chalking up a still-robust 85-90k. A third debut is next, as Webbie (Trill/Atlantic) trends toward 60-65k. Chart perennial Alicia Keys (J/RMG) will fight it out for #5 with the similarly leggy Hannah Montana 2 (Disney) in the 55-60k region, followed closely by the Oscar-fueled Once (Canvasback/Columbia) with a projected 50-55k. Michael Jackson’s Thriller (Sony/Legacy) and Juno (Rhino) are on a collision course toward 40-45k, which brings us to the #9-13 slots. The order of their finish is presently too close to call, as Amy Winehouse (Universal Republic), the debuting Shawty Lo (Asylum), the surging Sara Bareilles (Epic), Mary J. Blige (Geffen) and Step Up 2 (Atlantic) all occupy the 30-35k hood. So that’s four soundtracks in the first 13 slots, for what it’s worth. (2/29a)

Re: Music Sales/Chart Thread (Billboard/Hits Daily Double)
Yeah, so Usher is gonna be #1 on the Hot 100, and Low will finally lose the top spot. Too bad it's to an equally shitty song, though.

Re: Music Sales/Chart Thread (Billboard/Hits Daily Double)
Jordin's career is going better than I expected. I guess it was hard for an attractive and marketable pop female Idol winner to really stink it up... her songs have been pretty damn generic and forgettable, IMO. I guess Chris Brown doesn't hurt either.

Re: Music Sales/Chart Thread (Billboard/Hits Daily Double)
One Day's for next week. Quote: COUNTRY COMFORTS RETAIL: JACKSON RULES
Universal Motown’s Michael McDonald, Flogging Molly, Black Crowes Up Next
March 5, 2008
It may not be a Good Time for the record industry, but it sure is one for country veteran Alan Jackson. That’s the word from beleaguered retailers around the country reporting first-day sales as they confirm that the country star’s new Arista Nashville albumâ€â€yup, it’s called Good Timeâ€â€will debut at #1 on next week’s HITS chart, with a total that should top 100k.
If only his wife would let him celebrate.
That’ll make Jackson the only artist to hit six figures as the biz limps toward the highly anticipated April 15 release date for Mariah Carey’s IDJ effort E=MC2.
Last week’s topper, fellow L.A Reid diva Janet Jackson, finds herself in a tight fight with Brushfire/Universal Republic’s Jack Johnson for #2, each with between 65-70k in sales.
Universal Motown’s second collection of Michael McDonald covers, Soul Speak, looks headed for between 30-35k, but with its upper-demo audience could trend more later in the week. Three of the songs, “Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher†(A/C), “Love T.K.O.†(Adult R&B) and “Walk on By†(Hot Contemporary Jazz)†have already charted.
Other debuts include SideOneDummy veteran Irish punks Flogging Molly (who appeared on The Departed soundtrack) with Float, and Black Crowes’ Warpaint, their first new studio album in seven years, and subject of media controversy when Maxim published a review of the album from a critic who never listened to it. The disc is being released on their own Silver Arrow label. Both are expected to score in the 30-35k range as well.
The market was flat vs. last week, down 6% vs. same week last year and currently down 12% year-to-date. We now return you to your regularly scheduled web-surfing.

Re: Music Sales/Chart Thread (Billboard/Hits Daily Double)
Great for Usher, 8th #1 in his career. Only took 3 weeks to achieve the top spot. No Air had a great increase and should enter the Hot 100 Top 10 this week. More upward movement for 'Sexy Can I', 'Bleeding Love', & 'Superstar.' Looking forward to Hot 100.... EDIT: Also, 'Feedback' should enter the top 20, somewhat salvaging its dissappointing chart performance for Janet Jackson.
