I have found AI disgusting for a few years now, and this season is worse!!!
10 episodes of amazingly awful singers, and then 3 eps a week, do you really think that is enough? Why not 4 a week, or perhaps one every night? What am i saying?!?!?! They could just have 2 hrs every night!!!!!
With the downfall of reality shows recently, i am really hoping that this season's ratings are much lower (i will settle for any decrease though)

I also think that the 10 eps of crap singers is overkill and then just when the show gets to the "good" (still garbage though) they are going to have 3 eps a week, which is even more overkill. People have other shows to watch with actual plots that need to be followed and AI will be the thing that they watch if their other show isn't on.

I am so amazingly happy that reality is on the downfall

I watched some of it tonight while getting ready for work and all I have to say is that the feeling I'm getting is that American Idols best days are behind it and that Cowells bashing of these people seems quite setup for the simple fact that if you REALLY listen to some of these people sing?? I mean, REALLY bad singing?? You have to wonder deep down how these people can possibly think they can sing as bad as they sound and it's just starting to look like a total setup for Cowell to blast these people to sell the show and it's old now.. I'll bet this is the last season and 1 last thing: Get rid of the stupid Celebrity Judges which serve no purpose like the guy they had on in the beginning of the show tonight.. :-#

Just read last night ratings and it was watched by an incredible 33 million viewers that's more than last years premiere. I guess the comedy/train wreck of bad singers always draws a big crowd. Which i admit is my favorite part of the show and the show delivered with quite a few delusional "singers" Then the ratings drop a bit when it gets to sreious competion of semi-finalist and goes up again on the finale. Weird ratings show.

Well, its official, there are 33.45mil morons out there!
What makes people want to watch this filth year after year? Human beings are really some of the dumbest creatures out there, even my dog left the room as well when my mother put that trash on.
I know, i know "if you don't like it then don't watch it", and i don't, but it isn't that simple. When people watch this garbage then other GOOD shows don't so as well.
It may seem like i think that what i watch is superior to what other people watch, but when what i watch IS superior how can i not think that?!?

I will relish the day that AI is no more. If it were up to me then no reality show would ever see the light of day again.
I may sound hostile, but that is an unfortunate side effect of the rage.

GROW A BRAIN PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!

"Look, huh huh, they sing bad but they think they good, huh huh, they stupid."

That was my impression of the 33.45mil people that watched that smut.

...Anyways, I liked it. I'm rooting for the woman that pawned her wedding ring to afford to go to Washington D.C. I really liked her voice, and she looked good too. That and she's a mother, earning herself a few brownie points.

Well, here we go again.

Last night's audition episode was pretty funny, but I get the sense that each year they're showing more and more of the crappy performers, thinking that that is what everybody wants to see. It's going to make it a little harder to pick the winner right out of the audition round. I've been pretty good at spotting the talent early, as I picked Diana last year and both Kalan and Theresa from the last Canadian Idol from all of their first auditions. Can't say that anybody really stood out yesterday, aside from that Braxton kid, which was for all the wrong reasons ](*,) . I don't really mind the guest judges coming in for the audition round, as anybody that can take a little of the focus off of Paula are a definite plus.

Other than that, I just hope this season can deliver as talented a line-up as last years Canadian Idol, which had arguably the best final 10 of any Idol ever.

I have to agree with the negative people: this show really doesn't deserve 33.45 million viewers. How shows like 24, Alias, Scrubs and Arrested Development have all lingered (or still are lingering) on life support, and American Idol scores 30+ million a week is beyond me. I only watch to see the auditions, because it's quick and to the point. After that, I will only tune in every so often, but not as a point.

Well yeah, people obviously like it. I just don't like seeing a reality show like this getting over 30 million viewers, and then a show like Arrested Development only getting 7 or 8 million viewers. A little unfair. Plus, these high ratings for just ONE reality show always gets the network people thinking about MORE reality, which is not what we need. Here's what reality should stay: Survivor, American Idol, Apprentice, Big Brother, and The Amazing Race. The rest, no matter how high rated, should be gone. All dating shows should also be relegated to syndicated networks, where they originated.

Eek... I won't comment on that. But oh well, whatever floats your boat. I just am used to the basics, you know? Most new reality shows all have similar shows on the networks (Supernanny, Nanny 911; Wife Swap, Trading Spouses), thanks to networks who can't create their own original programs, so I just get sick of them, over time.

That Mary Roach scene cracked me up. At some points of the song, you can hardly understand her at all. I've heard better English from Nina Hagen, and heck, she even makes Bob Dylan look like a speech teacher. I have this on tape, and I like to watch that put down scene again and again. Here is some of the dialouge for those who did watch, though not completly accurate.

(After the song)

Simon: (after a long scene) Mary, how do think you did.

Mary: Not to shabby.

Simon: Okay, on a scale of 1 to 10, how do you think you did.

Mary: On a scale of 1 to 10? About an 8.

Simon: Seriously, you are one of the worst I've ever heard.

Mary: Did you say one of the worst? (repeat answer from Simon) Are you being serious, or are to doing this to make me mad?

Simon: (After a quick conference) I'm being serious. What made you audition for this....

Mary: All of my friends say I have an awesome voice.

(Simon gives that "oh come on look")

Simon: Not only can't you sing a note, but you have one of the weirdest voices I've ever heard.

Mary: I have many voices.

Simon (among others): Do you? Can we hear of the them?

Mary: (very sarcastically) You don't want to hear them.

The other Guy: What are those those other voices saying.

(she says something like that they all thought that she was the worse and they all looked different then what she thought they looked like, saying something like "I thought you would be bigger" to Simon. "Your more beautiful than I thought" to Paula, and "You are thinner than I thought" to the other guy)

Mary: Look I am not going to walk out of here crying like the other people, I'm just going to say "Whatever."

Simon: Mary, I don't want you to cry.

(then after a bunch of repeated quotes from the other, and a no from Simon)

Simon: Thank you for coming and good luck in Beauty School.

Mary: Before I leave, I like to say "Whatever" (then she leaves).

Then she started to act very psycho exit saying that "I will never wan't to pursue a singer career ever again! Never! I'm not going to lose it" Then she starts crying and sings another song (which remind me of Frankenstein). Then she f---ed Simon, Mark, and the other guy and flip them all off (even though she said , but not Paula because at least she was kind to her.

This had me bursting into laughter instead of bursting into tears. About her apperence, she reminded me of a very young Jodie Foster (when she had shorter hair). But even before she sang, she still had a bizaare personality. I think I'll watch it again.

Did you watch Daedleus? I'd rather watch Simon et al tear apart some young person's dreams than Captain Archer getting all gung-ho about some plan that has already killed one of his men. Super transporter, my ass

After tonight we'll be idol-less until Tuesday, which seems odd because I could have sworn last year they had the early rounds on Mon, Tues, Wed. Oh well.

Although I am seeing the show before Americans on CTV, there's nothing spoilerish about this since there was already a preview. The first three are the triplets, and I think it was unfair to call them fat. It's not The Biggest Loser, it's American Idol, with Mr. Studdard a previous WINNER, and he is bigger than them. I thought that was a tad distasteful. It's not about size, it's about voice. That was clearly just to hurt them.

First of all, there is no such thing as a good reality show. There are the godawful ones, the disgusting ones, and the tolerable ones.
The only one that comes to mind that falls under the tolerable category is The Amazing Race.
Survivor is disgusting as it is the reason that all of this crap is on tv in the first place.

I am not saying that all scripted shows are good, some aren't, but as a whole they are FAR superior.

Shows like Lost, Alias, Scrubs, CSI, SVU, and (most of all) Arrested Development are quality shows that succeed with flying colors in the genre that they specialize in. A lot of effort is put into making these shows and risks are always part of quality television. Why would networks bother taking risks and making quality shows when they could just throw together some horrid reaily show about the search for the next big singer, a midget getting married, people eating rectum, etc.
It isn't the networks fault either (usually), because if people keep watching the dreadful reality shows then the networks have no reason to stop.

What is also ridiculous is when i talk to people who agree and say that they think that reality shows are awful, and then say that they want to go watch american idol because the bad singers are funny.
Whenever i meet someone, or talk to someone, or whatever, and i find out that they watch AI or just about any other reality show my opinion of them goes straight through the floor.

Actually, you're partially correct. What reality shows really are are guilty pleasures. Guilty pleasures are shows you watch for some time to pass. There is NOT one quality reality show. It's an oxymoron, really. Quality reality is non-existent. Survivor is a guilty pleasure. I don't watch it to learn, I don't watch for quality, I watch for a guilty pleasure.

And while Survivor can be blamed for the birth of reality, you can go back to the bad dating shows in syndication, and back as far as the early 90s with The Real World, the real start of reality. It just took a decade for the major networks to take it into consideration, when the short-lived game show in primetime era died out.

There were reality shows on tv pre-Survivor, but not in primetime. I don't care how many reality tv shows are in outside of primetime. All those elimidate, real world, road rules, etc i don't care about. What is awful is when the main networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and to a lesser extent WB and UPN) fill up time slots with reality shows. Most other networks don't have their own series (FX is having more and more original series though) so when the networks that are needed to supply new shows go the reality tv route, viewers looking for quality shows have no where else to turn.
If you hadn't noticed, the reality tv situation makes me kind of angry.
