 The 'American Idol' Thread
Finally \:D/ My personal favorite guilty pleasure is back
The show's undergoing a bit of a make-over: expanding the audition round episodes to 10 and tweeking the semi-finals (24 instead of 32, and on three times a week). I hope that the show can return to what it was like in season two, since last season was a bit dull imo.
Anyway, I still can't wait. Every season is like a journey \:D/

IIRC, from an article in the USA Today that had the semifinal mechanics it had 12 women and 12 men at the start of the semifinals, then on Monday the 12 men sing, on Tuesday the 12 women sing and on Wednesday 2 of each are eliminated. This is done for three weeks leaving 6 men and 6 women in total and our top 12. If they can find equal talent among the sexes I think that will be great, but nothing I have seen in past idols has shown that. Look at AI3, there weren't too many strong male singers. If this system was incorporated then we may have had Jonah and Marque in the top 12 instead of Diana and Camillle.
I'm also glad that this year they are expanding the hollywood shows. I like that part of the audition round the most and this year I hope they give us more footage of how the judges come to their decision of who to keep and who to lose.
So I'm all set for Idol to start up again I just wish Paula has become more coherent in the months since last May...I'm not holding out much hope.

I can't say I'm thrilled about American Idol being on *all* the time, especially since there's other things I need to watch.
For instance, I'm taping the second hour of it so I can watching The Amazing Race tonight. Heh.

I'm gonna have that problem when Jack & Bobby comes back on, because I get it Tuesday's at 8pm. Tonight I can watch Idol on ATV at 7pm-9pm EST (To all those with Rogers Digital Cable and Timeshifting its 221) and The Amazing Race at it's regular time.

Is it really on three nights a week? Seems to me FOX has a little backstage show going on. "Desperate Network Executives". \:D/ But seriously, I hope it isn't overkill. Usually two shows is fine in one week. Oh well, I'll still be watching Lost and Alais over Idol, but I'll catch the good hour each week. The hour that means something and that isn't just 30-90 minutes of filler (depending on how "desperate" FOX is that week for high ratings).

I probably won't follow this season as much as I have the past two, with Alias, Lost, Scrubs and the Amazing Race all also on.

The only thing I hate about the auditions are all the bitter people. Those who can't sing, here are the few classes:
A. The RARE breed of losers who take it surprisingly well!
B. Those who take it well... in front of the judges. Outside, they curse the judges to hell.
C. The losers with supportive mothers. These moms say that the judges don't know what they're doing, and that they let a shining star fall through the cracks. Yeah right.
D. The loser who beats the dead horse, and just won't stop singing.
There you go, your mini-guide to the worst of the worst on American Idol.

I'm not watching it (prob. not until the groups of 8, which are the most entertaining, since they can pick their own song from any genre...heh), but, you've got to wonder - do they pay people to sing poorly?
You'd think the human race had a better perception of the quality of their voices...

Season 1. Keith.
Season 2. Edgar. (even though he first appeared in Season 1)
Season 3. William.
Season 4. Mary.
They always find the worst of the worst.

Season 1's worst was Tameka. Season 2 brought us Keith. Mary was quite scary, but she was NO William Hung. Mary had the eyes of a psycho indeed. It's just a shame she's not going to pursue a singing career, but something tells me that her cosmotology career is going to go just as well.
I don't like the idea of a guest judge at any point in the process, and they aren't any better at this stage. I didn't see any point of having Mark McGrath on the panel tonight. Somehow I think he was more useless than Paula. No one was insanely good tonight, but I've come to expect that they won't show us any really great performances. I did like the girl that said Fantasia was an inspiration or whatever, she had a nice voice. I also liked the sob story of that girl who pawned her wedding rings, she didn't have a great voice but I did want her to get through.
The funniest audition goes to Dennis Braxton, he really was fabulous. Each year you think I would get used to the delusion these people are under, but nope - still as funny as ever. Making fun of Mark was great stuff, and his singing - well that was certainly unique. Also enjoyed the bad version of the SSB at the opening, and all the mangling of ATB was good too. The "classy" dresser that couldn't sing or dress was memorable too, just not memorable enough to remember her name. I'm not sure what the point of devoting so much time to the rock band guy was, sure it was mildly amusing but I would have preferred hearing some good vocalists instead.
So far none of Simon's remarks have been good, its always the same thing with him. "You're horrible", "You can't sing", "It was bland". Get funnier Simon! Lord knows Paula isn't going to.
Here's hoping tomorrow night's show brings us some talent.

You'd think that normal, down-to-earth, people would now they suck. Unfortunatly, that isn't the case with everyone. Trust me, I know a couple of 'singers' who truly believe they can sing. No matter how many times they get told that they're not good, it doesn't mean the slightest thing. They just keep on truckin' them crappy pipes
Anyway, Mary is like the second comming of the Excorsist girl Holy fucking shit! She reminds me of those freak drama kids at my school. Completely delusional, talentless, freakin' annoying as hell, and not to meantion in need of massive amounts of therapy.
My advise for you Mary: check into Cedars-Sinai and put yourself on the list for one of those lobotomies. I hear they do those on daily/regular basis. Just tell 'em that the folks at KJ sent you.
