I went to the 9:45pm showing and I surprised, it was packed...about 95% full.
Apparently RI is full or Forman fans or something.
I got there as the trialers were startind and was barely able to find a decent seat.
I like dit, I expect it thave good WOM, the buzz as I left he theater was positive.

How big was the theatre?
I'm lovin' the reports (well...the few we've seen). Seems very encouraging, despite the Yahoo user reviews...

Are the user reviews bad, I don't read them.
Anyway, the critics I have seen like this movie.
As for the movie, kindof feels like Quaid's other feel good movie, The Rookie?

ROBUST opening day  I think a large increase well over 50% is in store today  I also think a 3-day opening over 16m is in store along with a massive 4-day also

How come this movie is doing so well? Is this based on something previously published or the young stars hot commodity right now?
Anyway good for Dennis Quaid and Marg Helgenburger!

Scarlett Johanson is very hot now and Topher Grace is getting there. Suprisingly he's found success in movies despite being a TV actor.

Not only that...but it's also in the Top 25 Opening Weekends in January (It would be #20 had it not been for that damned fool Mr. Carter and those talking, ambitious horses...)!
Have you seen the movie yet, BJ?

It's also doing well because of the director - Paul Weitz. Because he's at the helm, they can advertise it as THE "movie brought to you by the director of American Pie, About a Boy, and (though, they prob. haven't used this one... ) Down to Earth."
Scarlett's name isn't that big of a draw, nor is Topher's or Dennis'. I think it's just the combination of a cast of slightly well-known actors and the appeal of the plot/look. It just might be the perfect time for a feel-good movie, and, in that sense, In Good Company isn't a bad choice

No but I plan to see it sometime this month or when it hits discount theaters.

Ew. Discount theatres are nasty...at least in my area. The reels tend to be older, so there's more cigarette burns and scratches. It's like buying a movie, book, or CD used, heh.
I do wish there were more discount theatres in DC though. All the theatres are at least $8.50 for a night show or $5.50-$6.50 for a matinee.

In Good Company is performing better than Elektra at the box office!!!!
I guess audiences wanted a film of originality over a comic book spin-off.

Here is hoping for a $16.5+ million 4-day weekend. Not bad, I'd say, it outdid Eelektra which is playing in twice as many theatres.

Heh, I love that part. It'll also be Weitz' highest PTA (even for the 3-day, I think) in a wide opening weekend. American Pie, About a Boy, and Down to Earth were all around $7500.

Weitz sure do make different movies...On the one side Down to Earth and American Pie...and on the other In Good Company and About a Boy
About a Boy was a good movie, but an even better book, actually. Down to Earth, I didn't like much. American Pie is fairly good.
I wonder if In Good Company will outgross Down to Earth. I think it will.

I agree Scarlett Johanson is very in right now, after Lost in Translation, shes been climbing up. She is very talent. Anyways, I'm going to see it today in like a couple of hours, I hope its good.

I like the book and the movie equally. The same with High Fidelity (same author).
I can watch the movie over again, but I think the book itself was more entertaining.
I've liked all of Weitz's films. Hell, I even liked Down to Earth as a midly amusing comedy. American Pie is actually one of the more mature (teehee) raunchy comedies.
sako, I think you'll like it. It's not laugh-out-loud funny, but it's so enjoyable and charming that it's impossible to walk out feeling disappointed, heh.
BTW, do you guys want to have a lil' competition to see who gets the second weekend right? Heh. This isn't a big enough movie to warrant a "daily" prediction competition (and the thread isn't popular enough, lol), but if it entertains you and you all think it's worth it, I'll go through the (little, almost effortless) work it requires.

Notice, the higher the Scott Holleran rating, the lower numbers it brings in. The Sea Inside and Kinsey both bombed and both received an "A" from Mr. Holleran, and The Aviator and White Noise are both raking in the green!), In Good Company should be destined for a nice box office take and good WOM
I just wanted to point out the Holleran comment. There does seem to be a correlation, heh. So, Scott should either 1) stop writing reviews or 2) defend the movies he hates so he can secretly POISON their chance at success...

It ain't happenin' BJ...Even if it increases 40% tomorrow...
Day One: $4,451,000
Day Two: $6,231,400 (+40%)
Day Three: $4,050,410 (-35%)
Day Four: $2,632,767 (-35%)
Day Five: $1,184,745 (-55%)
Day Six: $1,125,508 (-5%)
Day Seven: $1,181,783 (+5%)
Day Eight: $5,318,024 (+350%)
Day Nine: $7,977,035 (+50%)
Day Ten: $4,786,221 (-40%)
Weekend Total: $18,081,280
Total (+500,000 from before) = $39,438,893
Give it up. This ain't The Ring. It isn't going to increase 350% even if it expands to 2500 screens. The most you can hope for is perhaps a "The Notebook"-type run. How do you think it's going to get $20-ish million next week?

I think it'll make around $11 million next weekend, and it's on it's way to around $60 million total.
