 Re: The NHL 07/08 thread
Oh, and I think I may fix up the goalie scoring system for next year... the GA vs Saves ratio is really killing a lot of them. I thought I recalled putting it as .1 for a save and -.5 for a goal, but it's -1. The top guys are putting up fine numbers, but a lot of them really aren't.

 Re: The NHL 07/08 thread
Pitkanen's expected to be out of the Oilers lineup for the next two weeks...
What a fucking disaster this season is turning out to be. It's picking up right where the last one left off: injuries crippling our team and rookies being forced to play. I expect by the end of the season every veteran player (read: has at least one full season) on the team will be traded for prospects and draft picks.

High draft pick, here we come!
No, really. Gagner, Cogliano, and whoever we get this year, that might not be a bad couple blocks to build upon.

 Re: The NHL 07/08 thread
The Calder should come down to Chicago's two and Edmonton's two. The Kane/Toews combo has been as good as the Cogliano/Gagner combo. I wonder if there could be four nominees this year.

Fuckin' Pascal LeClaire. Four shutouts already. Glad to see the Oil win tonight, against Minnesota of all teams. Our big players finally came through.

 Re: The NHL 07/08 thread
I know , Columbus might actually be decent this year. I mean they've always had a solid if unspectacular line-up, they just had shit goaltending and played bad. Now they have a good coach and goaltender... Dammit, the night Mason doesn't play the Preds get a shut-out. I reallyyyyy shouldn't have picked him.

The Bruins won again tonight. I love it. Oh, and if Chara wants to, he can really beat the shit out people. I can't remember the last time I've seen so much blood pour out of one guy's nose on a hockey rink. That was wonderfully disgusting.

 Re: The NHL 07/08 thread
What a fucking cheap shot that was.
I don't really want to speculate, but it doesn't look like Bergeron went in neck first. Jones did hit Bergeron in the neck from behind and then tt kind of looks like he went in face first and then just lost consciousness immediately. I hope it's just that and nothing major, but this is one of the few times I've watched a hockey game and have been scared.
He moved his leg briefly and his right hand, but nothing else.
I know this won't happen, but Randy Jones should be gone for the rest of the year. He knew exactly what he was doing. He should get a hefty suspension.

That's the thing about the post-lockout... not only is there less hitting and violence overall, but every time there is, somebody ends up in the hospital. Don't like it.

 Re: The NHL 07/08 thread
Two things; great news first. Patrice Bergeron is right now at Mass General Hospital in Boston. It turns out that there is nothing wrong with his neck, and as he was coming off the ice he was talking. It turns out that he had a concussion on the ice and a broken nose. That's it. Nothing else. Here's the offical statement from the Bruins and Dr. Bertram Zarins. Quote: “After initially losing consciousness on the ice, Patrice has regained consciousness and has been taken to Massachusetts General Hospital where he is undergoing a series of tests.
Patrice has sustained a concussion and a broken nose. The initial x-rays and CT scan have not shown any other serious injury to his head or neck, and he has full feeling and motion in all of his extremities.
We will continue to monitor Patrice and await the final results of his medical studies.†So great news there. Second, Randy Jones issued a statement. Quote: "Words really can't express the way that I feel right now. I am very apologetic for the hit and what I did. It was not intentional. It is something that I have never done before and it is not part of my character. I am extremely sorry. I hope he does ok and everything works out for him. I wish him nothing but the best in his recovery.†Not intentional my ass. Now that Bergeron is okay he won't get a hefty suspension, but he should at least get six games.

 Re: The NHL 07/08 thread
Can't believe Lupul's now a point a game guy in Philly
I'm really starting to think MacT should just be fired. It can't be coincidence that good players become bad when they get traded here, and vice versa the other way, right down to guys like Marc-Andre Bergeron... ugh. Even Hemsky is way better than what his points indicate, I bet if he got traded he'd put up a 90 point season.

 Re: The NHL 07/08 thread
Every single Oilers game I watch, they lose. Whenever I miss one, they win. They've won three of their four games on Thursday nights, when I have a night class and have to miss the game. I don't know if it's MacT or just the pressure of playing in Edmonton. I mean, it's not like Smyth is lighting up the league in Colorado, even playing with one of the best centers of all time. Lupul just had the pressure of being the 'home-town hero', plus having to live up to being the guy we got for Pronger. I think MacT's a good coach, but I think he'll be fired this season if the team doesn't start turning things around.

 Re: The NHL 07/08 thread
So the NHL handed down a suspension to Randy Jones for the hit on Patrice Bergeron. They have decided to give him a 2 game suspension. What a joke. I knew the suspension was going to be lowered a bit after Bergeron turned out to be okay, but two games? Are you kidding me? To make matters worse, this is apparently the Flyers third incident already this year. The season is not even a month old, and this is the third time something like this has happened? And the suspension is ONLY two games. Yeah, I know they suspened the two guys a combined 45 games, but their excuse is bullshit. "He didn't intend to hurt him." Give me a fucking break. Bergeron never saw the hit coming and Jones knew what he was doing.

 Re: The NHL 07/08 thread
Well.... I saw this coming. It's not a blatantly illegal move, he didn't cross-check him in the face or do a flying leap at his head. It was 'just' boarding, and he got a game misconduct and everything, and Bergeron was alright. I'm not saying I disagree with you, jmart, I'm just saying what the league's mentality is. Colin Campbell - the head of disciplinary action - is an utterly useless bureaucrat and as slimy as they come, so that should tell you how much I agree with it.
I wonder if Philly's gonna get some sort of punishment, though. Prolly not, but, as you said, this is the third incident so far this year, and it's not even November. Looks like the Broad Street Bullies are back, only now they're a bunch of cowards.
