I hope Obama decides to come to town too! Bill recently explained what he does on the campaign trail. Or at least what he wanted to say he does. He said he goes around small rural areas while Hillary campaigns in the urban areas. So speaking at the high school near you seems to match up with what he has said.

Well, it's smart. This area has turned from a Republican stronghold ten years ago when I moved here to a predominent Democratic area. We dems have won some local races, too, and our area went for Kerry while many rural areas of PA didn't. (Mostly it's people from NY and NJ moving out here, since we're still within commuting distance of NYC)

I thought Riverhead, Long Island was bad enough, and they have LIRR there. Those commuters must suffer endemic constipation.

It's about 80 miles to Times Square, and people even farther away are commuting. I'd never do it. They're expanding the trains from NJ out to here, so when that happens, we'll probably turn even more into the farthest NYC suburb...

 Re: Pennsylvania, Here We Come
You'd definitely give New Haven, CT a run for the money. Is the new commuter line going all the way to Scranton? Madness indeed. I met this guy that drove from Milwaukee to Chicago.
It's ironic that urban sprawl is creating a network of rail lines more reminiscent of old-fashioned interurban rail.

Cool! Are you going to go? Nah... my wife is still at home recovering from her hospitalization, and I hate crowds... besides, they would probably make me sign some sort of Hillary loyalty oath to get in. I came home from work early today to take care of her and already there are police cars all over the place...

And after you sign the loyalty oath, instead of the sound of thunder, you hear cackling in the background.

 Re: Pennsylvania, Here We Come
And the back-and-forth continues. SurveyUSA now has Clinton leading PA by 10% and Rasmussen shows an even smaller margin at 5%. Obama continues to lead the Gallup national poll by a small margin, while Rasmussen has them statistically tied. Also PA Democrats registered in record number, with most of the new registrations and changes coming in on the last day; that should favor Obama, as it indicates a strong effort by his camp to get people registered to counter it being a Dem-only primary. In addition, Obama has increased his lead in NC to double digit. If he could win by a bigger margin in NC than Clinton does in PA, that'll be surely considered a victory for him, and Indiana may not even be all that important.

That's an outlier.
In any case, remember: go bowling with Bob Casey and drink Yuengling.

Al Gore would be a great Secretary of Energy or head of the EPA. Vice President is unlikely... trust me.

I think all this talk of bailing out people who fucked up their mortgage is absolutely ludicrous. Since when did this become the governments job?

Since it's become a widespread problem that only seems to be growing by the day? There are a lot of people who don't know how to manage their finances, but I think the evidence points to the fact that this is becoming a big social problem that requires policy solutions.

I agree with you in theory -- I'm a fiscal conservative by principle. However, the fallout of such a crisis can be extremely messy. A completely laissez-faire approach would risk being too much like Herbert Hoover.

 Re: Pennsylvania, Here We Come
So it becomes the governments responsibility to bail out people who can't manage their own money? What about the guy who works just as hard, but buys a smaller house he can afford? We're going to help out the idiot, but leave the responsible guy high and dry?
Again I ask, why in the hell is this the governement's responsibility?
And Cotton, people not knowing how to manage their finances does not mean that the government has to come in, save those people, and essentially give them more money to blow. Stupid remains stupid, just with more money.

Stupid remains stupid, just with more money. THat's not my point (perharps I should have phrased it better) If there's a trend that indicates that people are generally worse off now then they were before (whether it be with their mortgage payments, etc), then there are probably other factors that come into effect. I don't think this is something that can be entirely narrowed down to individual lazyness/incompetence.
