Just got back from visiting family over the holiday. Will be getting back to work here over the coming days, more information about the Derby and what you can do to help will be coming later this week. We're really going to need help raising awareness, hopefully some of you will be willing to lend a voice!

Thank you, Karl!

Your original post got me thinking about your site analytics articles that you used to do monthly. Any chance that you're going to restart that up? I am interested in seeing the site/article statistics and how they change month-month.

Really interested in how the derby process will work. Happy holidays!

A great question!

I recently started a new series Query Details which I plan to continue at irregular intervals in 2012. You'll notice it's somewhat similar to the "Fun things people searched for to find us" section of my analytic articles. The idea is to move that section to it's own column.

As far as the analytics articles, I found they were too frequent and too repetitive. The problem was a lack of prior data to compare to. We can't compare to prior months because the industry has such peaks in summer and winter that prior months are often poor indicators of performance. Luckily, we now are approaching a time where we DO have prior year data, and I plan to restart the series accordingly. I'll remove the query section, as well as re-think the way I do the top content section. My tentative list of analytics articles is:

Release date - Topic
January - 2011 in Review
April - Q1 Review
July - Q2 Review
October - Q3 Review

They should be much more fun now that I can trend vs. prior years. I should really be able to take a look at how things are going, providing a stronger comparison and deeper insight.

Thanks for the quick yet detailed response.

I took a look at your query details article and I have to say the futurama porn search was LOL.

Quarterly analytics articles sound great and they match up with the box office seasons. You can even compare the peak seasons vs. the non-peak seasons in the same year. Just a thought.

We're on track to launch the derby tomorrow, with the first game being Jan 6-8. Hopefully we don't hit any snags moving all the changes to production!

More info coming soon.
