Re: TDK -DEAFENING BUZZ COMPLETELY UTTERLY OUT OF CONTROL!
200M OW can be attainable but I don't see it happening.
Let's go into reasoning and say the 9200 screens is correct. Let's say the average per screen on Friday is a reasonable 7.2. Then let's say the average seating is 200, and then $8.50 a ticket. That's $112,608,000. Now obviously it isn't going to sell out every show but I can easily see $60M OD (heck close to $65M) happening.

Re: TDK -DEAFENING BUZZ COMPLETELY UTTERLY OUT OF CONTROL!
At this stage I dont care about the numbers (they'll be over $125m OW), but the hype and anticipation is unparalleled in my book. That must see feeling that was there in the 90s for films like Jurassic Park, ID4 and Phantom Menace. This is must see and the level of chatter outside the net is at fever pitch. We are about to witness an amazing box office run....

Buzz IS great, I agree. Among the general public, probably the biggest buzz since 2004 with The Passion and Shrek 2. I've always felt that the Spider-Man films have been more subdued. People don't talk about watching them; they just go.

The Passion was everywhere and Shrek 2 was kind of subdued and then snowballed into a box office phenom. The only others this decade with a similar level of pre-release noise would be the first Potter, LOTR (especially TTT and ROTK) and Sith. Pirates is more of a Spidey buzz wise.

Re: TDK -DEAFENING BUZZ COMPLETELY UTTERLY OUT OF CONTROL!
I think matrix reloaded tops al lof those; tdk is prob. the #1 most talked about blockbuster in the new millenium, followed by mr and then sith, then king kong at 4, and pearl harbor at 5.
All of those were media darlings.

See, I judge the buzz by what my friends who are not obsessed with films/box office say. And I remember so many of them expressing interest in Shrek 2, out of nowhere. And they were college students! That's how I knew, against my wishes, that it would be huge. The same thing's happening with TDK. EVERYONE wants to see it.

Anything over 135m OW puts Dark Knight as a major player for 400m, mostly because this is July, weekdays will be enormous, and the weekend drops will not be all that harsh.
