Not a very funny one, but I don't think anyone except for you, who might have read it, took it seriously. and how about this one, more jokes > No. A fool is someone who spends well over a billion dollars for only three World Series appearances and only one win. Anyway, as a Red Sox fan are you saying that the only thing that matters is if you win a World Series? For all the teams that are in the top ten in terms of payroll, I'd say so, in terms of on field performance. In terms of making a profit, just as long as you're getting asses in the seats and getting them to buy food and drinks, selling merchandise, ad revenue, TV, radio, etc. not so much. But from a fan perspective, absolutely. so in the 90's when the Yankees only won 4 out of 5 World Series, Yankee fans can complain about the 1 WS that they didn't get in that 5 year period.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
Glad it is Phillies - Yankees World Series as I still think Angels would have been beaten by the Phillies like the Dodgers. Remember that the 2 Angel wins in this series were both 1 run games.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing CC & Lee pitch against each other, 3 times maybe?
But can the lefty Lee stop the righty Yankee hitters of Arod, Jeter & Teixeira?

I'm no big baseball fan but I'm one of those casual fans that just has a negative feeling when it comes to the Yankees and New yOrkers in general, so I'm going with Philadelphia.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
World Series, tonight.
Here are my propects.
Yankee pros Most HR's in the majors. Homefield advantage. Starting pitching is dominant, and their bullpen is solidifying.
Yankee cons They lost the interleague series to the Phillies. CC has struggled against the Phils, especially last year (when he couldn't get through the forth inning). Playing at Citizens Bank Park will be a disavantage since they will be without their DH (Matsui).
Phillies Pros. Most HR's in the National League. The most patient offense in the majors (it's no wonder the Dodger starters couldn't go past the 5th inning). Has good history against the Yankees starters. Their starters are getting dominant at the right time (especially Lee). Even their pitchers know how to hit. Won the interleague series at Yankees Stadium.
Phillies Cons Once again, their bullpen. Though it has improved in the post season, it is still not good enough. One of Brad Lidge's blown saves came against the Yankees.
Predictions - Phillies should go back to back on this one. A split at Yankees Stadium, then a sweep at their home. Phillies in 5. I got your back Eagle and Krem.

It was in May, the Yankees would have lost against almost any team back then. The Yankees offense is patient as well, so it might come down to the better Bullpen Yankees in 6.

Yup, Forget about anything that happening in May. Was AROD even back then CC and other were just starting to jell, etc.... and the Yankees should kill that Phillies bullpen. Also, I think CC will be alot toughter of the Phillies lineups than Lee will be for the Yanks. How has Lee pitched against the Yanks in the past cause I think AROD and Jeter will be hitting Lee. Lastly, forget your prediction of Phillies in 5. The Phillies just beat a Dodger team that hadn't been playing well in a month and the Yankees beat a pretty good Angel Team.

Levy wrote: Whoever wins game 1 will win the series Of course that is possible but if Game 1 is a close game then I can see either team coming back and winning 2 games in a row. Think no matter what happens in Game 1, anything can happen with the pretty average, right now, Game 2/3 starters. PS. Are they going to play after a day of rain in NY. But if it stops early enough, they should be able to get the field in game condition.

I was at the 2nd game of last year's NLDS when CC was pitching. I know he was on 3 day's rest, but more than anything you could tell that it was the crowd that got to him. I have never seen a pitcher affected by the crowd's chants so much before or since.
I hope he pitches game 4 in Philly on 3 day's rest.

I hope he pitches game 4 in Philly on 3 day's rest. GAME ON! Hoping for a GREAT series. I agree with what you say above but I am curious how this will end. Everyone already has said the above about CC and he is 3-0 with a 1 ERA. Anyway, last year, CC was overpitched both in the regular season and playoffs and he was playing for the underdog Brewers...so he might feel different with the Yankee bats behind him.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
Lee pitching great. CC not pitching too bad as think early troubles were caused by pitching a long game on 3 days rest and then having 7 days off and pitching on a cold night. And Utley homer was basically a pop fly just over the wall.
so at 1-0, wonder how long the starters will hold. Lee looking like he might go 8.

6-1 Phillies win should've been a shutout but stupid throwing error by Rollin gave the Yanks their only run. LET'S GO PEDRO BEAT NY TOMORROW NIGHT!

so was it smart for Lee to go 9 innings and 122 pitches and will he come back in Game 4 after that?

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
I doubt he will be pitching game 4. Phils have many options to start the game, so no need to overuse Lee, even if the other guys are #4 or 5 starters. Besides, if they really do put CC in game 4, it's going to be a blowout here at Citizens Bank Park.
Rev - I know it must be tough for you to root for a Philly team, so all the support is appreciated.
Oh, and by the way - GO PHILLIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
