I thought this was a very well made movie. Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon really shine here. I loved how well they played off of eachother. I would like to see them do another movie together. Ed Harris is alright here. Nothing special. I was suprised to see a young Jenna Malone and Liam Aiken here. I've seen Saved! and Lemony Snickets and they are both so grown up now. Malone gives an especially good performance. A solid B.

All the performances, even the child performances are amazing. It's a real tearjerker.
8/10 (B+)

We watched this in my film class today, and it's not as bad as I remembered. Some really fantastic performances from the entire cast, especially Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts. It was pretty decent. B-

One of those movies that's really, really good for most of the running time, but the ending made me want to shoot myself in the head with how manipulative and "CRY RIGHT FREAKING NOW OR ELSE" it got. Bleh. The acting was very good, though; Roberts was solid and Sarandon was outstanding. B-

Typical Chris Columbus film, it felt very manipulative and uninspired. The cliched dialogue and ending, which I predicted before the half way mark was very dissapointing. The only thing that saves this film is the great performances by Roberts and Sarandon. C+

Re: Stepmom
I'm watching this on Starz right now and it is so, so good. Yeah it is corny in parts but it's so well made and the performances really are great.

This is where they sing Aint no mountain high like 4 times right?
Good performances from the leads elevate a relatively slight, wicked step mom becoming liked vs. real mother's fear of being replaced cliches.
