Well this was funny once but rest of the times it was predictable. The final act was set-up well with the flying birds getting their bits from the game/app. The emotional bit felt forced mostly and the while the Eagle bit delivers the biggest laughs it didn't add much to the story overall. The voice cast tries really hard to make this work but its just not funny enough. Josh Gad came out the best of the birds in the movie.

4/10

It's an animated movie in China. Good luck finding an English-language version.

I think it looks great, and to be honest there is a cinema in the foreign area that is showing it with its original language, but it's only on twice a day, once at 11am and again at 1:25pm, and I work 9-6. So it's not looking likely. But there's always Hong Kong...might nip over there and see it. Most likely I will miss it as I have a few great looking movies this year already.

This was terrible. I didn't have any high expectations from the start, but it's crazy how lazy this movie felt. The animation is nice and the battle with the Pigs at the end was kinda fun, but the voice cast didn't really work, especially Sudeikis and alot of the humor is just bland/unfunny pop-culture jokes.

The animation is good. I played the game only a handful of times, so I don't know if they developed the characters of these birds from scratch or just took them over from the game, but I liked the characters too.

The problem is it's just not a funny movie. And that's the only thing it tries to be. The story is paper thin and ridiculous (but that was always going to be the case considering the source material), so it's understandable they just went for the comedy. But throughout the movie I just kept myself asking: How is this supposed to be funny?

The Angry Birds Movie

I loved this. Red might just be my favourite animated character ever. He is such a sarcastic and opinionated commentator on the outskirts of society while the rest blindly follow ("Why do we have to agree? Why does it matter that we're not the same?" being a quote I especially agreed with), and voiced perfectly by Jason Sudeikis; a terrific casting. The film is very funny (even Sudeikis' dry delivery of "Mighty Eagle's Lake of Wisdom" being referred to as his "Lake of Wiz" gave me a chuckle), and the animation is gorgeous, but it's the world-building that I found particularly vibrant, impressive and appealing, and then there's loads of pig- or bird-related winks to our world that I also found fun ("InstaHam", "VIB" etc.). It snaps along at break-neck speed, the jokes land with sharpness, and the references to the game are all there. For someone that has played one or two versions of Angry Birds on my previous phone (I would never refer to myself as a "fan", though I am aware of the characters and powers), this film adaptation is a pleasant treat. Easily the best animated film of 2016.

Watched it for a second time. Loved it all over again. So much fun, and a lot of great (hidden) humor that I feel many people missed - come on, it doesn't get better than "Kevin Bacon in Hamlet". Raising my grade to A. Best film of the year.

I really hope they make a sequel.

Overall good. Sudeikis is very good in the lead role, and Gad mostly makes me tired but he was alright in this too. Other voices I couldn't really spot. The film is pretty much fun and games with some very good animation as well. It has some very funny gags, but it feels a bit boring sometimes too, they could have cut 15-20min of the run time I think. I liked how they integrated the game with the film, that was well done. Also it has a decent plot and the jokes are pretty well written into it.

What!? Are you a hyperactive child that cannot sit down for two seconds? The film goes into the end credits at 87 minutes. Cutting 20 minutes off would mean it would last for just 67 minutes! That's not far off the length of a short film.

I think a good 65 min. without credits could have made this easier to digest. It was around the 30 and 75 minute mark where I lost some interest. It had some good jokes, even at those times, but felt the story moved a bit too slowly, because I guess not being that interested to what really happened to the characters. Cutting time could help here, although maybe I'm exaggerating with +15min. 10 would probably work just as well. It's fun, but suffers from that same thing that Secret Life of Pets had where I could lose attention. In comparison, Zootopia kept me more interested in the story.

Zootopia is made by Disney. They have decades more experience in making movies. This is Rovio's first film. Not that that's a reason to forgive them. But still, to compare it to Zootopia - or to expect Zootopia level of entertainment - is not cool.

Didn't you say that Angry Birds is the best animated flick of the year? But Zootopia is more entertaining?

So basically, you're also saying it makes sense that Zootopia would be better than Angry Bird, I mean in the end it's just the result that matters right? However you prefer Angry Birds, although you do seem to be the only one in that, not that there's anything wrong it. But sure, it should be expected Zootopia to preform better, but in fact they did in all regards, including my opinion. Really, I think they're both good films, Zootopia just proved to be a bit better as an overal film. In terms of animation they're equal. I would say purely jokes wise Angry Birds wins, I liked it trailer better too. Zootopia as you said, simply has that experience, to make it a more appealing film for the masses which in this case (only ;) ) I fit in with too.

No, not at all. It doesn't make sense that Zootopia is better than The Angry Birds Movie, because it isn't. I'm merely giving rationale to your assertion that Zootopia is better, because I know how you work. And I don't want The Angry Birds Movie to lose out as I feel it is far superior.

Different type of characters, they're the best characters in those respective films and I love both actually. If I'd had to say, yeah, Sudeikis is better because he has the main role and owns it.

What??! They're very close in terms of character actually. Both are care-free and sarcastic. One is using his wits in the big city and the other just wants to be left alone, but they share many similarities. Red and Nick both essentially just want to be included, as is seen throughout both films, but struggle to find inclusion so use defence instead. Did you even watch the films or are you just grading movies based on YouTube clips of each?
