Eddie the Eagle is a 2016 British-American biographical sports dramedy film directed by Dexter Fletcher with a screenplay by Sean Macaulay and Simon Kelton. The film stars Taron Egerton as Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards, a British skier who in 1988 became the first competitor to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping. Hugh Jackman and Christopher Walken also star. The film had its world premiere at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival on January 26, 2016.

The film is scheduled to be released by 20th Century Fox in the United States on February 26, 2016, and by Lionsgate in the United Kingdom on March 28, 2016.

The real Eddie the Eagle is right down there with the best of them in the underdog hall of fame, and his story is the real star here. An off kilter headlong rush into yet another obscure sport biopic. (There's getting to be at least one for every sport/game/contest there is. Are any left uncovered?)

Taron Egerton, disguising his natural good looks, inhabits the Eddie character and carries us all along with him on his unlikely olympic vision quest. And he is ably supported (about the midriff) by Hugh Jackman (who's character's drunken midnight escapade is a surreal highlight). *A-*

I still can't believe this is the same Taron Egerton from Kingsman. He's great in this, along with Hugh Jackman. The movie is near exactly what you'd expect. They do deserve some credit for some great camerawork with the ski jumping (save for a few bad CGI crash landings).

B+

Predictable comfort food, with winning performances from Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman. B

Good performances from Egerton and Jackman lifts this otherwise safe adaptation to good heights. The CGI is crappy whenever its used but the camerawork from the jump scenes is great. The movie soars while it stays focused at the sports and the interactions of the leads and good thing is that it stays that way 70% of the time. Once we get into drama its cheesy and goes safe. The obsession of Olympics or ski-jumping is not well developed, the nostalgia and tension of Olympics is under-utilized. The score is REALLY good.

7/10

On the edge of being too cheesy but I liked it. Edgerton was good and charming.

This was a really solid film. I was only interested in it because of Jackman, but I didn't think I would like it as much as I did. Taron Egerton was great here and I loved the chemistry he had with Jackman. It doesn't break any new ground and plays it's safe for the most part, but I was thoroughly entertained throughout.

It's an OK feel good movie. Goes by fast, but it's not really memorable or inspiring as it could've been. It doesn't make any big offenses, but despite being a true story it still feels like many of the underdog movies we've seen throughout the years.

I actually thought I'd like this more, but this is a solid, predictable crowdpleasing sports film that benefits from winning performances from Taorn Edgerton and Hugh Jackman and a lively score. B
