I may be in the minority but I really love this movie. Drew Barrymore is just so damn adorable and makes it work a lot better than it should. She gives an endearing and likable performance where you really feel for her character. I felt like cheering at the end. A genuine crowd pleaser.

Tricky. I didn't mind it, but I was also bothered by the fact that it was about a teacher who thought he was hitting on a student and still did it. He even brings it up on the ferris wheel. Had some cute moments. Liked that she felt kind of popular. Thought Arquette's character was a bit misplaced considering he was cracking jokes that border on statutory, and that he definately looked to old to be in grade school. I liked that she was on the science/math comps though. But it was a bit predictable. Mediocre.

Nah, I think he's joking. He prolly likes Vartan too knowing ryan!
As to this being an A. I dunno, it felt really awkward to me. I never fully got into it. Probably for the reasons stated above. I was just talking to torri about why fever pitch made sense to me more than many other movies, and here's why. Because it wasn't the typical "I love you, no I don't, yes I do, no I don't, I can't stand to be with you, I miss you, I can't stand you, no I really want you." Back-n-forth type stuff. It gets unconvincing when the relationship is coached only in terms of personal sentiment like that. In fever pitch they both like eachother alot, and both want to make it work, and it shifts the focus onto life style clash and if they're respective atittudes can work together, despite them both really liking eachother. The question of their like is never in question. What is, is how they handle sharing experiences and still keeping personal space. That's much more convincing to me as how a relationship might fail and/or be successful than just "I like you now. I can't stand you now."
I still can't really get over Vartan falling for his student (despite her being undercover) in any situation that would be illegal in many more ways than one, and kind of sleazy.

When Never Been Kissed first started, and I heard John Lennon's "Watching the Wheels", I was sure that I was in for another very entertaining film. The guy's voice is just the best ever! Drew Barrymore plays Josey, a reporter for Chicago Sun Times (I wonder if she knows Roger Ebert ) who is given her first assignment, as she goes undercover as a high school student. Josey had bad experiences when she went to HS, and the cruel kids called her Josey Grossy, and ewwww...they had a point, because she was quite nasty. I still don't think anybody should ever be picked on, and I hate immature lynch mob mentalities. All the REALLY cool kids considered the people to do that stuff to be real losers when I went to school, and I still do. Josey had it right, that they would grow up continuing to put others down because it was the only way they would feel good about themselves. Of course, Jessica Alba, who plays one of the students, is the type that such allowances should be made for.
Josey has a terrible time fitting in at first, as she's really nerdy, and it's not until her brother joins the school that she has some help in becoming more popular. Josey becomes popular, and catches the eye of one of the teachers, who has an attraction to her. It's actually kind of relevant today, with all of the teachers and students that are getting it on, but it makes you question the guy's credibility.
After Josey is elected prom queen, a very Carrie-esque situation with one of her nerd friends almost happens, but Josey stops it, and decides to blow her cover as she gives the students a piece of her mind, much to her pedophile teacher's disbelief. (not technically a pedophile, I know, but it sounded funny ) Josey gets scooped by another local paper, but she writes an article anyway, and explains how she was tortured in school, and makes a plea to the teacher to forgive him, and expresses her love, as she plans this elaborate scheme for him to meet her at the local baseball championship game, where she'll wait for 5 minutes on the mound for him to meet her. Of course, he does, and they live happily ever after.
It was bound to happen, but I didn't really care for this one too much. I didn't hate it, but it was very blah. Why was it so important for her to go undercover? How exactly did her brother enroll? Why was the teacher pouting about her really being 25, to the point he was moving away? Boo hoo ...lol The end scene was a little sappy, too. I'm sorry, Libs, you've got awesome taste in movies, and even though this wasn't bad, it wasn't better than average IMO. Leagues below Mean Girls in depicting a humorous high school setting and characters. I hated posting this review, because I don't won't you to be disappointed that I didn't really like it. Don't worry about it, because it took about 30 movies to find one that I graded this low, and that's pretty good.

Pretty good. Quite funny indeed; Drew Barrymoore goofs off for laughs. Michael Vartan is such a cardboard cut out Tom Cruise mini me and nothings different. Hes certainly not a leading man but this movie was sweet and i found it entertaining.

I don't remember too much of it, but what I remember was just decent. David Arquette was a blast, though.

Re: Never Been Kissed
Rewatched it yesterday and my thoughts above remain. Arquette is the highloight of the film and Barrymore is a sweet protagonist, but the film is reeeeaaalllly clichéd and has several totally dumb scenes.

So like a month ago this queen was feeling a bit dodgy after a little smoke and ended up watching this, alone, about three times in a row. This queen indeed.

Re: Never Been Kissed
This movie is so cute! Admit it, even if you don't like the movie, Drew Barrymore is adorable.
This was Drew's phase when she was adorable in every single movie she was in (this, Ever After, The Wedding Singer, etc.)
