 Re: The Age of Adaline
It wasn't a boring train wreck like the recently released "The Longest Ride" but it still isn't very good. First off, it has the worst narration ever. It totally took me out of the movie whenever it happened and it made the ending even more stupid than it already was. The second biggest issue was Blake Lively. As a "fan" of Gossip Girl, it's not surprisingly to know that she can't act but she was just terrible here. Her accent just went on and off throughout the whole film and showed zero range of emotion. I was embarrassed for her. Harrison Ford on the other hand was great (even though some of the writing was cringe worthy), he sells it for every second he's on screen. Overall, it was really stupid and honestly kind of bizarre but it wasn't a chore to sit through.

Kind of goofy, but blessed with a strong lead performance from Blake Lively, who manages to turn in her first interesting acting in probably a decade. Harrison Ford doesn't phone it in for once either. B-

 Re: The Age of Adaline
This isn't terrible and there's a sweet nature to the whole film that makes it hard to dislike. But boy is it stupid. The whole premise and the fact that they try to explain it away with science is laughable. It also feels underwritten - the whole relationship between Adaline and Ellis unfolds after like three dates so it's a little hard to believe in the 'star-crossed love affair' that they try to sell. But it's successful more often than not because of strong production design and the strong performances. Blake Lively struggles a bit with the accent she's trying to use but I though she got better as the film went along and was particularly strong in the last few scenes. Harrison Ford and Ellen Burstyn were both great. Michiel Huisman is solid and likable though a bit miscast, his natural accent slips through a few times which wouldn't be an issue other than the fact that he's playing Harrison Ford and Kathy Baker's son and Amanda Crew's brother. It distracted me. The guy who plays the younger version of Harrison Ford's character is horrible. It's a pleasant enough watch for a rainy day - it's definitely nothing special though. C+

I thought this was pretty solid besides some of the narration falling flat. I thought Blake Lively handled the role quite well, I was surprised. Good for her, I think this is a role that another actress could butcher easily but it was easy to find her believable as an old soul.

I liked this a lot. Refreshingly serious in tone. These old souls aren't the types to tell jokes or be "light fun" and the film follows their lead. It understands to use its concept to be about something more, Adaline's emotions and fear of loss dating back to her first tragic heartbreak that she never fully got over. The plot lets itself slow burn for a long time while Adeline and Ellis are just doing on dates, before the action really picks up when she visits the parents house and then things are intense thanks to Harrison Ford's great performance. Blake Lively though carries the film with her internal performance.
