About Last Night is an upcoming American romantic comedy film starring Kevin Hart, Michael Ealy, Regina Hall, and Joy Bryant. Directed by Steve Pink, the film is based on the 1974 David Mamet play Sexual Perversity in Chicago and is a remake of the 1986 film of the same name. The remake features black actors in the lead roles where the roles in the original film were played by white actors. The remake is also set in Los Angeles, California where the original film was set in Chicago, Illinois. Filming took place in late 2012 in Los Angeles. The film premiered at the Pan African Film Festival on February 11, 2014. It will be commercially released on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2014.

I thought this was great. It's incredibly entertaining and funny, and while predictable it is also very sweet. All of the four leads are great and are well-developed - the script is very talky and not full of a lot of big comedic setpieces and they all do well with the material. I thought Michael Ealy and Joy Bryant were incredibly charming here and had great chemistry. Bryant in particular nails the more dramatic moments. Regina Hall is HILARIOUS and surprisingly Kevin Hart is actually not as annoying as I expected in this. Some of the best and most memorable scenes involve both of them and they play very well off each other. My biggest problem with it was the completely pointless role played by Paula Patton, which felt very unnecessary and only there to create a little more dramatic conflict. It's also a sequence played for laughs and one of the few times the movie falters in that department. But overall this movie is a total delight and a strong entry into the romantic comedy canon. A-

I assume Patton was Ealy's ex-girlfriend? Totally didn't recognize her then.

I would have taken a movie exclusively over Kevin Hart & Regina Hall - the rest here was forgettable and predictable. Still, it has its certain charms throughout.

Sexually frank and, for the most part, eschewing typical genre convention, About Last Night is a surprisingly fresh remake. Joy Bryant and Michael Ealy have nicely low-key chemistry which cedes the spotlight to the more fiery pairing of Kevin Hart and Regina Hall, who are both hilarious. B

Eh, didn't think it was very good. The main couple is not really engaging despite being relatable. The movie would've been much more interesting with Hall/Hart in the forefront. Didn't like the homophobic jokes either. Also despite being a respectable hour and forty minutes the movie feels much, much longer.

I do agree that it felt quite a bit longer than it actually was. I checked my phone a few times to see what time it was. Besides that, it was fairly entertaining. All four performances were quite good (I've always loved Regina Hall and am glad she is still making movies) and it was realistic and funny. I'm not sure what could have been changed to make it a GREAT film besides make it a little tighter, but still it was good.

7/10
