Re: Epic
I really wanted to like this. I thought it looked quite adorable and like one of the better animated films to be coming out this year...
Well, it was really fucking terrible. It didn't get overwhelming positive reviews or anything but I can't imagine any critic in their right mind giving this even a halfway passing grade. It was just terrible. You know what this reminded me of? Those crappy WB animated flicks that came out in the early 90s. It was just terrible and really had no redeeming qualities besides the fact that it was fun to laugh at every now and then.
I didn't think it was possible for there to be a worse film than The Host this year (I guess No One Lives was technically worse, but I had so much damn fun watching that I can't count it) but thank you Epic for proving me wrong. An epic disaster. Just terrible.
3/10

Re: Epic
I thought the story was very standard, but the dialogue writing was pretty bad. They really thought they were funnier than they were.
However, it had the best use of 3D in a movie this year (yes, I thought the 3D in this was better than OZ, Iron Man 3, and Star Trek Into Darkness). Even though I didn't care for the movie because the writing was bad, it almost didn't matter because it was such a visual treat.
Story/Writing - C Visuals/Use of 3D - A
Overall - B

I don't get the good reviews either, this really isn't good at all. They tried mixing serious, dramatic elements with silly humor and it simply doesn't work. AT ALL. The visuals are the only positive thing about the movie. That's it.

Re: Epic
Glad I'm not alone here. When I saw it, I thought it was still like 88% on Rotten Tomatoes and I was just baffled lol I'm glad the rating went down, but it is still way too high.

The visuals are the only positive thing about the movie. That's it. The reason it doesn't work is because the "silly humor" is horribly written. Obviously kids ate it up, but aside from the visuals there's little for adults here.

Re: Epic
The kids at my screening seemed restless (lots of talking, getting up and literally just walking around the theater). Such a random, awful movie to get an "A" CinemaScore.

Re: Epic
Only watched half an hour so far.
It's beautiful but already feels a wasted opportunity.
Horrific voice casting with Beyonce (What the hell?) who sounds ridiculous as the queen. Laughable.
Colin Farrell and Aziz Ansari are terrible choices as well.
The humour just doesn't work. Why did they have to do that? A bloody pity. Disappointing.
Short-sighted and immature.
"You stealing my moves kid" LOL can you be any less ghetto? Queen my ass.
