G.I. Joe: Retaliation

Re: G.I. Joe: Retaliation
Poor London This will contain some spoilers, but they will be hidden It's kind of a direct 180 from the previous film, but the results are still similar. Where as the first film too joy in it's cartoonishness and created ridiculously cool environments and weapons for them to use. Here it's brought to a much more grounded approach. No shortage on action scenes but they are very similar now with they're bourne/ taken style of frenetic action now that you miss that well crafted Paris chase scene from the first film. The one action scene that really is a standout is the Snake Eyes on the mountain. It was funny and badass at the same time. As far as the acting goes, the actors are better at what they are doing, but that is only because the script is more grounded. The Rock's presence alone adds a lot to the film, and he has a lot of fun. But that's about it, other than that, I would have been fine with the team from the first film returning. Flint is a waste despite being the 3rd lead, Lady J is hot, but also kind of misused. Tatum's acting from the first to this one is almost shocking. He's gotten so much better, and his interplay with The Rock made for a fun time. Willis has a great moments though, but for those expecting a big role will be disappointed. He's got an even smaller role than Dennis Quaid in the first film. The villains are much better in this film as well. Cobra looks and feels more Cobra. Ray is his typical douchiness, but Storm Shadow and more importantly Jonathan Pryce stand out. They were wise to give him a larger role, and plays it similar to when he was a Bond villain, but amped up even more. Biggest Misfire is of course Listening to the criticisms of the first film. They made a huge mistake killing off Duke. They should have brought the original cast back, and had Quaid and maybe Wayan's character get killed instead, and have Tatum swallow up Flint's role. Though I was thinking you never really got a good look at Tatum's dead body, I thought there would be end credits scene where it showed he was captured and being tortured instead leaving an opening for a third film. That's what they should have done with the reshoots Overall, it's a better film, but I think I still had more fun with the first film thanks to more elaborate and ridiculous action scenes. The acting is better, and the overall feel goes for a more straight up action approach, and it works, but the approach and story still doesn't quite get passed the ok feeling. But considering the crazy delay, I was thinking this could be a trainwreck, but it's definitely a nice time waster. B And, what the hell is with GI Joe and they're random end credit songs. Black Eyed Peas for the first, and this one I won't spoil yet.

Re: G.I. Joe: Retaliation
GI JOE RETALIATION
Okay. The problem I have with this world they made is that I just don't like it. I didn't like the look of Snake Eyes and various other characters. I don't like how Cobra Cmd doesn't sound like Cobra Cmd should. Destro was a complete throw away. The whole Snake Eyes / Storm Shadow side story is something that was unneeded unless you wanted to make a standalone film with those two. Ugh. Anyway, the film is just forgettable and unnecessary. Now it certainly had some entertaining action pieces. Mainly the fight in the mountains and the prison break with FireFly and SS. The last 20 minutes of action kind of made it a bit better for me as well. Overall though none of these characters were really that interesting at all. Heck even having Bruce Willis in here was just for giggles. Seriously. Though, the bit with all the weapons he had everywhere and 1776 did earn some chuckles. It's just disappointing to me how the GI Joe brand was made into This stuff. I hope down the road if a reboot ever occurs that it will incorporate more characters and have a better story and make the characters a bit in tune with the animated tv show.
Grade - C

I don't understand why you needed to pay money to see this was shit. The first movie was a long enough preview for this movie, and that stunk. So now loads of people are going to watch this, so it will gross a lot, but they will say it was terrible etc. but what did they expect?

Perhaps I wasn't referring to you.
If you used the time you take to write replies to my posts and actually wrote a review for this flick, I'd prefer it.

Re: G.I. Joe: Retaliation
Retaliation rocks! A fitting sequel to the great debut in this film series - - this is blockbuster action done right. The Rock was an awesome addition to the cast, his best action hero role to date. Best of all was the story, another masterpiece of sci-fi melodramedy with pleasingly internally logical missions. Can't wait for the next entry in this boffo franchise!!! 25 out of 5.

Re: G.I. Joe: Retaliation
It was entertaining for the most part, but not that great. Outside of a few cool action set pieces it felt pretty dull at times. I guess I should have went in with lower expectations, but this is a clear example of seeing all the best stuff in the trailers. There are really no surprises at all and you could probably piece the movie together just based on the amount of footage released online already which is very unfortunate.
It was ok, but nowhere close to Fast Five level of awesomeness.

Not very good as the action isn't very impressive and the attempted humor is bad. However, Adrianne Palicki is still fantastic eye candy.

Re: G.I. Joe: Retaliation
I love how the G.I. Joes first wait for London to be blown up and THEN start their plan to stop the bad guys.
And how at the end everyone is happy that the Joes are the good guys afterall and no one gives a fuck that millions have died in London (or maybe all of England was destroyed?)

Re: G.I. Joe: Retaliation
My favorite part is when they realize that Storm Shadow was not the one who killed their master. No one thought to check the sword in all those years? And the response is essentially: "Oh. Oops, sorry about that. Who could have done this? Oh, Zartan."
But of course, this was really entertaining.
