 Aliens
Aliens Quote: Aliens is a 1986 science fiction action film directed by James Cameron and starring Sigourney Weaver, Carrie Henn, Michael Biehn, Lance Henriksen, William Hope, and Bill Paxton. A sequel to the 1979 film Alien, Aliens is set 57 years after the first film with Weaver's character Ellen Ripley returning to the planet LV-426 where she first encountered the hostile Alien. This time she is accompanied by a unit of Colonial Marines.
Aliens' action-adventure tone was in contrast to the horror motifs of the original Alien. Following the success of The Terminator (1984), which helped establish Cameron as a major action director, 20th Century Fox greenlit Aliens with a budget of approximately $18 million. It was filmed in England at Pinewood Studios, and at a decommissioned power plant.
Aliens grossed $86 million at the domestic box office during its 1986 theatrical release and $131 million internationally. The movie was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including a Best Actress nomination for Sigourney Weaver. It won in the categories of Sound Effects Editing and Visual Effects. It won eight Saturn Awards, including Best Science Fiction Film, Best Actress for Weaver and Best Direction for Cameron. One of the best sci/fi movies ever made. EVER. A+

Flawless. The Special Edition is even better.
Better acting.
It has a James Cameron feel (Michael Biehn, Lance Henricksen, Bill Paxton are in it!), which always kicks ass. Cameron rules!
More suspense (the girl adds a LOT more to it).
The marines were bad asses.
The Queen Battle was far far better than the Alien battle conclusion in Alien.
More character development and good story.
What would you rather see: 1 Alien for about 10 minutes or 20000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 Aliens getting their asses blown up by Marines or smashed by automobiles?
Much better special effects. Those Aliens looked so cool when climbing on the ceiling and chasing Vasquez down the vent. Awesome!
100/10!

This is a fantastic movie. I still remember seeing it for the first time in the theater and literally being exhausted when it was over. It rarely lets up on intensity. When the action stops for a brief moment, Sigourney Weaver is a good enough actress to anchor the film with not only her intelligence but her motherly love for Newt. The only negative thing about this movie is how the next in the series totally destroys the impact of this movie in it's first few minutes. Still, this movie gets an A from me.

A very well done sci fi movie. Sigourney Weaver is phenomenal, as are all of the supporting cast. I really liked the fight with the Alien at the end with Sigourney in the robotic thingy. That was really awesome. The little girl added a lot of suspense and tension to some of the scenes. Much better than the original in my opinion.

Burke: Maybe we could build a fire, sing a couple of songs, huh? Why don't we try that?

This is an almost flawless movie and if it wasn't for Terminator 2: Judgement Day, I'd call it the best sci-fi sequel ever. It's also the third-best sci-fi movie ever made, in my opinion (behind T2 and The Matrix). It really as everything going for it and it's a classic by all means. Despite a long running time for the genre, it never drags, the pacing and the editing are great.
Techincally the movie is a great achievement. The cinematography is superb and the art direction as well as the sound effects are wonderful. The amazing work on the prosthetics and the visual effects are outstanding. The score by James Horner is great as well. The cast is well-picked and all performances are convincing with Weaver obviously sticking out. Her Oscar nomination was well-deserved and so were the other noms for this film.
Ridley Scott created a great and intimate sci-fi horror movie that started a new trend, but James Cameron took his baby into another direction and gave us a full-blown action extravaganza that is full with great characters, non-stop action, suspense and more carnage than one could imagine after the first movie. This is what great sci-fi actioners are made of!

One of my favorite movies. Top notch thrills , chills... everything! I find this one more chilling than the original, in fact. The music... the empty feeling... works very nicely.

With all due respect to Ridley Scott's original, James Cameron's sequel is just plain scarier and a better film. You feel the claustrophobic confines that the heroes have to live in. You witness a story unfolding in front of you that is told through a child's eyes, and most importantly, James Cameron and his merry band of cronies make this one hell of a scary ride. Part of what makes the monsters so effective is that we're not told too much about them. We only get glimpses into their physiologies, their behavioral patterns and their intelligence. Cameron gives us just enough to become wrapped up in the film, but not so much that we become overly familiar with the aliens, or start to question the logic behind the film. He also smartly carries over some devices from the first film that were abandoned to an extent, such as the acidic blood of the aliens, and he supplies answers to the few questions that the first film raised, such as why the blood doesn't corrode instruments and objects when a dead alien is examined. This is film making at its finest.

A worthy sequel to the original and a large part of James Cameron's resume, but I found the original Alien much better. Perhaps it's because I prefer horror to action, but I just found that film much more effective; but still, this is a great flick, with superb action and a great story to boot. The interaction between the characters makes this film work, for instance, much better than a typical action flick. The marines all act like marines, Ripley's gradual development works, and the mother/daughter relationship feels genuine. And then, of course, there's the aliens - one of them was scary in the original, so hundreds of them is downright terrifying. The end fight with the queen is a bit melodramatic, but it's a fitting conclusion to the film. Add in some great performances by Sigourney Weaver, Michael Biehn, and Bill Paxton, and you've got a terrific flick.

With the element of surprise gone from the first movie Cameron went down the only route worthwhile and blew his wad on a adrenaline infused masterpiece of cinema.
Only one Alien in the first movie vs Hundreds of the slimy beasts in the sequel
Untrained civilian crew in the first movie vs A cadre of Marines that wouldn't look out of place in Predator.
It's bombastic genius of the highest order though, quite how Cameron wrings such tension and action out of every scene is a wonder and this movie delivers more entertainment in 5 minutes then most films could in their entire running time.

I did see Two Towers though.
