Post Re: Deadfall (2012)
This is a sharp and satisfying suspense film. Concerning two thieves, a brother and a sister, and their dangerous bid to escape to Canada during a snowstorm after a casino heist, the film has a rich and foreboding winter atmosphere and several scenes of potent high suspense, both of the action (a snowmobile chase) and psychological (a complex third-act hostage situation) variety. As the conflicted and violent brother, the main antagonist, Eric Bana delivers an absorbing performance and once again proves he is among cinema's most talented and often unsung leading men. The film can prove a tad unfocused, a few too many of its brief 95 minutes are devoted to a boring storyline involving a sexist police chief played by an over-the-top Treat Williams, but by and large it delivers.

It's pretty standard genre entertainment, elevated a bit by Ruzowitsky's lean, tight direction. I agree with David about the extraneous storylines, but I'll also say that Eric Bana's Alabama accent was awful. At first I thought he was just speaking in his normal Australian voice. That's how bad it is.

Yep, agreed. I also found it amusing that the incestous siblings were from Alabama. Way to reinforce a stereotype.

I've heard that this is a really bad film. At least the title makes me think of an other very bad film, but one with a very funny nic cage in it.

This was a fine little thriller. It's tense from start to finish with all-around good performances. The highlight is definately Eric Bana, who I usually despise. He's really good here and seemed to have fun with his part. A nice surprise.

Really? How come? He's pretty damn good in Munich and Troy.

Oh and I also liked this film. And Olivia Wilde is gorgeous. Always.

He is, but he's also so incredibly lifeless and boring in Hulk or Time Traveler's Wife.

Olivia Wilde = And I thought she gave a very solid performance too.

Deadfall (2012)

Just watched this, and a great film it is. I just love these types of snow-thrillers like D-Tox (also starring Kris Kristofferson) and Fargo (although I didn't actually like it all that much and Deadfall is miles better). It's certainly taken from Fargo, but it's built on it and made a real competent character piece/anti-hero thriller.

Eric Bana plays Addison pretty greatly, so great in fact that I wanted him to win through at the end. I love rooting for a villain. Olivia Wilde was sexy showing some nice boobage, but she would never have survived for so long out there in so little clothes. Sissy Spacek and Kris Kristofferson were great, Treat Williams was an idiot as always, and he played that well. I especially liked the "you might need to change your tampon" line. I recognise the boy, Jay, for somewhere, but I can't place it right now.

I don't believe for a second that Liza and Jay could fall "in love" within 2 days, but whatever, I'll overlook that because everything else was pretty special. Liza needed Addison as her knight in shining armour when she was younger to rid her of the "monster" and "animal" that was her father. Now, twenty-or-so years later, she's ridding herself of the very knight-turned-monster that helped her before. It's got a lot of connections and agendas like this in the film, and I really liked that whole aspect to the film. It's basically about family. But what makes it so interesting is Eric Bana, he gets some great lines (although I believe he could have hammed it up just a little bit more), and the dialogue (apart from a few lines here and there) was pretty unique.

The credits song too, about trains I think, was a really nice sign-off and I just led there on the bed almost falling asleep to it, it has a nice melancholic feel.

Jay = Charlie Hunnam from Green Street Hooligans and Sons of Anarchy.
