Re: Excision
I was dying to see this, but I still didn't think I'd love it quite this much. I thought it was darkly hilarious. Annalynne McCord, playing against type, is fantastic. As is Traci Lords. Didn't think I'd ever say that.
This is such a bizarre and twisted flick that it would be hard to recommend it to many, but it's great if you're into this kind of movie. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it.

Excision
I was strangely intrigued throughout, but the film had no clear narrative, it was just an 18 year old girl that was a total nut job and had dreams of being a surgeon. There were some good lines, but it was all too dead to interest me.
How did she keep her sister alive during the transplant? Kind of fucked up. The movie was more of an attempt to shock, and I cannot praise them for this because I was not shocked.
My version's running time was 65 minutes, which seems far too short. I guess, being that this is China, it was severely cut. I think they cut her losing of the virginity scene and it cut sharply in a scene when she was praying too. Can anyone confirm what happens here? Or which other scenes you feel may have been cut? I want to know if I missed anything.
I only watched it because it was an option in the WOKJ awards (Best Horror).
C or D - unsure yet

Re: Excision
Yours was definitely cut. I don't really know what you missed as I'm not sure what you saw in these scenes. But in the end I'm pretty sure her sister is dead. She wouldn't have survived that.

Re: Excision
Wikipedia says that its running time is 81 minutes. Wow. Mine was cut by a whole 16 minutes. Perhaps watching horror movies in a country so keen in snipping isn't worth it. I miss the UK.

Re: Excision
I don't think any amount of shocking imagery is going to lift my grade higher than a "C+". I got the general feel for the movie, and the cut scenes are hardly going to add to the structure of the movie. That being said, I would like to see the full version just to satisfy my curiosity.

Re: Excision
If there was 16 minutes cut from the film there's no way it was only shocking imagery. Probably anything even remotely questionable though, which is a lot of the movie . Still, I'm sure it wouldn't all of a sudden make you love it, but it may have helped you like it more.

Re: Excision
I wanted the mother to die.
Mike, what happens at the end.. the mother is hugging Pauline, then on my copy a haze came up blocking something, and I see blood near the bottom of the haze (where it was clear). Did the mum bite Pauline's neck? I don't understand that part.

No she didn't bite her. She just screams/cries while holding her.

Hmm. Perhaps it wasn't blood that I saw then. Ok, cheers.

Re: Excision
It might have better if she was a surgical genius by the end and we had all been led to believe that she was crazy.

Re: Excision
It is definitely a dark horror comedy. It is just as "horror" as May is.

Re: Excision
They uglified Annalynne Mccord to perfection. I was disgusted by that face the entire time.
The film itself was weird and entertaining, never going to watch it again though.

Re: Excision
A-
I would have never thought that there is a good actress somewhere hidden inside AnnaLynne McCord. I wonder if we will ever see her again, but she was simply amazing in Excision, a movie as fucked up as they come. Darkly comic and thoroughly disturbing at times, it kept be glued to the screen throughout, even though the direction itself was rather uneven. The ending was simply perfect. Luckily not a cop-out.

Re: Excision
Unfortunately I had the "pleasure" to rewatch this the other day. My bf played it and I wasn't sure if I've seen the movie before or just the trailer when we started watching it. 15 minutes in I remembered it was bad as hell.
Personally I don't think the comedy in this is intentional. Somewhere along the road they realized they have a shit movie that people will laugh at (for all the wrong reasons) and decided to try and make it a comedy. But even if the comedy is intentional, it ain't funny (at least not the way comedy should work).
The acting is in line with those god awful gay comedy movies that verge on the thin line of being porn. Surprisingly Traci Lords is the worst one in the cast. She is so out of it and her delivery is incredibly flat. It's like she was reading her lines for the first time from a chalkboard behind the camera. Bad makeup, constant pouting (to make her look ugly LOL) that is obviously fake and unnatural to her face as hell brings AnnaLynne McCord up there with Traci in the performance department. I seriously don't think how anyone could see this as being a good performance. To each his own, I guess.
The story in theory ain't so bad. But the development is poorly done. There's not a good setup of main character's long term obsession with medicine, surgery, etc. We just have to assume that because she's a weirdo at school this has been going on for a very long time. Her dreams intensify in a matter of days though. It's not really a natural progression of obsession.
So this is neither a funny movie, nor a movie that showcases madness in an interesting way. It's definitely trying to look stylish, dream sequences especially, but to me it was very meh.
