Quote:
Paranormal Activity 4 is a 2012 American supernatural horror film, directed by Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost, directors of Paranormal Activity 3, and written by Zack Estrin. The film features Katie Featherston, who starred in the first film, and had cameos in the other two. The film was released in theaters and IMAX on October 17, 2012 in the United Kingdom and was released on October 18, 2012 in the United States, by Paramount Pictures. It is the fourth film in the Paranormal Activity film series, and a sequel to Paranormal Activity 2, set several years later.

Offers almost nothing new, either in terms of the gimmick or the scares (though I did like the knife moment), and the ending is basically a rehash of both the second and third ones'. Also the most obvious 'wait for the sequel for everything to be explained!', as a bunch of the plot mythology here didn't make sense to me. But it is plenty scary, and I guess that's good enough.

Easily the worst in the series, though I didn't hate it.

I enjoyed this. It's about tied with the previous one for me but a tad more entertaining. It was pretty fun and quite funny. Not really scary but the end had a couple of scary parts. It was too similar to the finale in the third, but it worked well enough. My only real problem is that it doesn't add much to the mythology. At some point they're going to need to start explaining more, and it better be soon. But I'll still be back for the next one.

This is DEFINITELY the weakest one but I still had a really good time. Parts definitely freaked me out. The first is still the best though, followed by the third. Hoping with that trend part five is an improvement. I went in with lower expectations because of the bad reviews, but it will definitely please fans of the series overall. B

I liked Paranormal Activity 3 more on the whole, but the last 15 minutes here are a lot of fun. I'd put it on pretty even ground with Paranormal Activity 2.

Agreed. I went in with lower expectations due to the negative reviews, but this is hardly a huge step down.

For those who saw it...

Spoiler: show
Were you as confused as I was with regards to which kid was actually Hunter? I figured Robbie was Hunter up until they started saying Wyatt was. If so, then who was Robbie? And why didn't Katie have Wyatt/Hunter with her?

I've read some theories that Robbie was the demon in human form, but I agree that aspect was very confusing.

It's Wyatt.

The whole point of the movie is the coven getting Hunter back. (Which of course begs the question of how they lost him after PA2.)

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4

Well, I saw it at 1850 today and it was showing in a big auditorium yet it was only about 30% full. That was disappointing. This type of film mostly works when seeing it with a big audience, but whatever. I thought this one was fairly interesting and kept the same style as the rest. The slow build to ever increasing high intensity moments and abrupt end, but this one seemed alittle flat and less real than the others. Certainly, there were scares but this story suffered a bit from the dumb blonde syndrome towards the end. I was a bit annoyed that the girl didn't call 911 after she found her boyfriend. Yeah, she got attacked by the entity but she got out of the house. Also, the mother was just a brick wall in this film and why would a family just take in a stranger's child for 5 days. Shouldn't the police be handling this AND now that brings up another thing. Wouldn't this woman be a priority on ever police database considering there was a missing child involved and murders. Just some things to go after in this film but I still enjoyed it for it's main purpose of providing scares.

Grade - B

It didn't really provide any answers, and just raised more questions (where the hell did Robbie come from? and how did they lose Hunter in the first place), but overall, this is just as fun as the first three. The last 10-15 minutes are too good.

This franchise is easily the worst franchise ever, but this film makes the first one look like a masterpiece even tho that one was pretty shiitty too.

 Way to overreact. It's so funny that you see every one of these theatrically and then bitch about them. If I didn't know any better I'd think you secretly like them.

If your story is true I feel sorry for your friend, because you seem like a terrible one. Going with them and then bailing 20 minutes in. It's only an hour and a half. I'm sure you could suffer through it at least for your friend's sake.

You can't grade a film if you don't watch it all.

I'm sure my grade would be like an H if I ended up watching the whole film.

So I finally seen the movie and its pretty much the worst of the series but not awful. We pretty much got no answers but gained more questions, they better tell me something soon or I will flip!. Good enough, I guess

Paranormal Activity 4

I'm a lover of this franchise. I thought the first three movies were straight "A" graders. While this was also great, it was not as good. There wasn't enough suspense or build-up (minor gripe) and the money shots weren't there this time. The ending was pretty good, but I felt it should have had a few more panicky scenes throughout. My palms were clammy after the last shot, so this series is still effective as a paranormal shocker, but it just wasn't as fully fleshed out as I think it should have been. Lots of questions were raised this time, and I just have a hard time believing that people, in this day and age, still leave their doors open all the time so that strangers can walk in as they please (this applies to both houses).

Much of the film is spent following a little kid and how weird he is. For me, little kids are not scary. Supernatural forces, however, are scary, and I wanted to see more of those forces. I also wanted more after the final scene. And what the fuck was that final shot all about? All of those people? Kind of weird. Paranormal Activity 5 here we come.
