Re: Moonrise Kingdom
Moonrise Kingdom is an absolute treasure, Wes Anderson's best movie to date. I kinda fell in love with it a little bit more as it kept going, and walked out of it with a ridiculous smile on my face. It's an incredibly simple story of being young and "in love," but the film's simplicity is largely why it resonates the way it does. The young leads, Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward, are both wonderful, while a stellar supporting cast including Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand and Bill Murray is also great. It's not hard to see why the film has been pulling in insane box office numbers - it captures a spirit of nostalgia in a perfectly whimsical way. A

Anderson outdoes himself when he ends the movie with "Les Champs Elysees." I always liked that damn song, and it's used flawlessly. ?

This was fantastic. Jared and Kara are great finds and the adult cast was great. Good ol' Anderson and his best to date. Also, best of the year so far. ****

Put a smile on my face for a lot of it but I still had problems with it.
It's probably the most enjoyable Anderson film for me, not a huge fan. The whole film looked great though.

Re: Moonrise Kingdom
When I first saw it I to be just as precise and clever as any Wes Anderson movie, but first and foremost I found it "cute". With the passage of time, I find the tone and many small scenes really bloom. The movie really succeeds because I think it captures the glory of youth and how seriously kids can take these matters... But it sparkles because of how many little moments elicit laughter, sadness, and surprise. Edward Norton's tearful lack of words (he's soooo good here and much better than Bruce Willis as the other surrogate father) and the papier-mache Suzy have to be stand outs.

Re: Moonrise Kingdom
Norton and Willis are both wonderful, IMO. The scene where Willis has a beer with Sam is great.
Murray is good, too. His bedroom rumination is poignant and stark.

Re: Moonrise Kingdom
The pretty darn charming coming of age romance almost overcame the emotional distancing of the excessively mannered stylization.
5 out of 5.

Loved it. Whimsical, charming, quirky, sweet, funny are all appropriate words to describe the film. I felt some Fantastic Mr. Fox in it too. Very enjoyable.

Re: Moonrise Kingdom
It's a masterpiece. Anderson's glorification of the freedom and possibilities of childhood and vehement dismissal of the trapped, restricted adults is pretty awesome. I honestly see the ending as rather sad because everyone is forced to compromise and find a way to fairly exist within their reasonable confines. I wish the kids had been married and managed to escape somewhere forever, the end. Ah well, that is not life and he loves to keep the core of his preposterous fables squarely in reality, which is largely what makes them so outstanding from any other quirkily-realistic indie film. I can not wait to see this film again, and again.
